BENTON FRANKLIN FAIR & RODEO 2014 DEMOLITION DERBY RULES ENTRY FEES Entry fees must accompany entry form Car with Primary Driver $30 before August 18 th /$50 at Check-in Additional Driver $25 before August 18 th /$40 at Check-in Pit Passes (limit 3 per driver) $15 before August 18 th /$20 at Check-in A maximum of two (2) drivers will be permitted per vehicle in any combination (i.e. Heat Races, Powder Puff, Demolition) DISCLAIMER The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of the events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements of such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. No express or implied Warranty of Safety shall result from publication of or compliance with these rules and/or regulations. The rules/regulations herein set forth are intended as a guide for conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death of a participant, spectator or official. The event directors, staff and officials shall be empowered to permit minor deviations from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his/her opinion, do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final. All drivers and their associated parties found in violation of any rules/regulations will be black-flagged and removed from the pit and grounds without refund of entry fees or pit passed and shall forfeit all winnings. GENERAL RULES 01. Officials will have final say on car inspections. All cars will be inspected before the event by track officials. All winning cars may be re-inspected prior to leaving the arena area and before payout. No pit crew members will be allowed in the arena during the re-inspection of winning cars. Drivers can be scored down or disqualified, if they have not complied with the derby rules and/or the official s decision in tech inspections. No additional welding will be allowed on any vehicle following tech. 02. Officials will have final say on all event results. 03. Cars must be in self-starting condition at start of each race. 04. Un-sportsman like conduct, including but not limited to: fighting, bad mouthing, protest on the racetrack or harassment of, or toward, any driver, pit person, volunteer, employee, director or official will not be permitted. Any disagreement will be resolved by the head official; failure to comply with official determination will result in a black flag. 1
05. No drinking or drugs will be tolerated in the pit area. Drivers are responsible for the actions of their pit crew ; any driver or person associated with the driver and/or the vehicle caught breaking these rules will be black-flagged. 06. Minimum age for drivers is 18. Minimum age for participants in the pit and staging area is 16. No children under the age of 16 permitted in the pits whatsoever. 07. Women may enter either the heat races with all contestants or the Powder Puff heat races, not both. 08. All drivers may enter the Demolition Event regardless of age (minimum age is 18) or sex. 09. One pit pass wristband will be provided for each entry. Additional pit pass wristbands may be purchased for family/friends at a maximum of three (3) per driver. Pit pass wristbands must be worn at all times or you will be removed from the pit area. Wristbands will not grant access to the general seating area. 10. Cars may be dropped off on Sunday from 1:00-5:00pm in designated areas only. Check-in and inspection will be Monday, August 18 th from 1:00-5:30pm. When bringing cars in, enter on Oak Street off of 10 th Avenue. No cars will be allows to enter after 5:30pm on August 18, 2014. 11. All drivers (Heat Races, Powder Puff and Demolition; primary and secondary) must check-in with their vehicle. 12. All drivers, pit persons, volunteers and officials must sign an insurance waiver at the check-in point. You will receive your wristband at check-in. 13. All drivers and crew members must attend drivers meeting at 6:00pm on Monday, August 18. 14. Cars will be pre-registered with a number. Numbers 1-125 are available. Please include first and second choice car numbers. Numbers are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. If your first or second choices are not available, an alternative number will be selected for you. 15. Car numbers must be visible from both sides and top of vehicle. Numbers must be minimum of 18 in height. 16. By completing the participant registration form, the registered parties agree to remove their cars from the fairgrounds, forfeit the vehicle, and/or pay all costs and fines associated with the removal of the vehicle. 17. No pets or extra riders in vehicle during races. No offensive decorations will be allowed on vehicles. 18. Breaching the barrier perimeter or ignoring the flagman s directions will be grounds for disqualification without refund of entry fees or pit passes and forfeiture of all winnings. 19. Winnings of $600 or more will require a W-9 for tax reporting purposes per IRS code. SAFETY RULES 01. Racing helmets with shields or goggles of approved racing type or safety glasses are mandatory for all drivers and will be inspected at check-in. Helmets must be worn at all times while on the track. It is recommended that helmets meet the specifications set forth in the Federal Regulations, Federal Vehicle Safety Standard, or meet the specifications set forth by the American National Standard Institute, Inc. Helmets that do not pass tech inspection will be confiscated until the end of the evening s events. Confiscated helmets may be picked up at a pre-determined location for ½ hour following the event. 2
02. Seat belts are mandatory. All seat belts MUST be factory-equipped or anchored to the frame and must include a lap belt and shoulder harness. Custom seat belts or shoulder harness will be subject to inspection and approval by officials. 03. Driver s seat must accommodate all drivers using the vehicle during the event. 04. Excessive speed in the pit area will not be tolerated, use caution-safety first. Drivers in violation will be subject to removal from the pit and grounds without refund of entry fees or pit passes and shall forfeit all winnings. 05. It is strongly recommended that at all times drivers wear at least four-layer driving suits made of fire resistant material that effectively covers the body. It is also strongly recommended that drivers wear long underwear, headgear, socks, gloves and shoes made of fire resistant material. 06. Fire extinguishers are mandatory for each vehicle and MUST be fully charges, in vehicle within reach of driver, mounted securely, be easily removable and have a working gauge. 07. It is strongly recommended that a white flag be placed inside the vehicle to use in case of injury or wave off. VEHICLE RULES RACING 01. Accepted vehicles include: Any American made hardtop model stock car, station wagon, imperial, truck or van. NO commercial vehicles or convertibles allowed. 02. All glass, chrome, exterior mirrors, headlights, taillights, chrome rings, emblems, grills and flammable materials must be removed. Glass cannot be rolled down, it must be removed. Rear seats must be removed. All car preparations must be done prior to coming to event. 03. Doors must be chained and welded shut securely. All chains on vehicles must be at least a minimum on ¼ chain and maximum of ½ chain. 04. A behind driver, safety bar is mandatory and may be welded or bolted behind driver s seat from side to side. A safety bar on driver s side door area is mandatory and optional on passenger side, but is recommended. The driver s door side bracing must not exceed front windshield post to no more than 8 beyond the body seam. Bar may run the full length, inside the vehicle. The safety bar and crossbar bracing cannot exceed 6 in diameter. Window post to window post bracing is allowed and recommended. 05. Truck lids may be chained, bolted or welded. Maximum bolt, 1 in diameter no maximum washer size. Bolts are allowed on trunk. 06. Hoods: Bolts or chains or all threads through hood to frame or wheel well are okay. 07. Vertical window bars are recommended. Maximum of three (3) bars or bands may be used. A window screen is allowed as long as screen can be easily removed for driver safety in an emergency. If dashboard is removed, side to side brace is allowed and recommended in dash position. 08. Fire extinguisher mounted securely, accessible to officials and driver. 09. Bumpers can be reinforced and metal added (push bumper). 10. No sharp edges on any added metal. 11. No raising or lowering of vehicle. Vehicles must be in stock position. Maximum height from ground to bottom of bumper not to exceed 19. 3
12. No objects protruding outside of car. 13. Gas tanks must be a safe container and made of steel (example: Jeep can, boat tank) and must be approved by an official. NO PLASTIC containers. Gas tanks must be securely placed and must be bolted and/or chained solid. Tanks must be capped and places directly and securely behind the driver area or in the center of the rear seat area, Stock gas tanks cannot be used and must be removed from the vehicle. NO electrical or pressure type fuel systems. Exception: newer model cars equipped with fuel injection systems that run with electrical fuel pumps, an electrical Kill Switch must be added, placed and marked where an official can easily shut it off from outside the vehicle. Roof of car is best location. 14. Batteries may be removed from the engine area and moved to the inside of the vehicle and placed in a secure mounted and approved battery box, placed in the passenger floor area. All batteries will be covered with rubber inner tube to protect the driver. No wooden boxes or plastic milk crates. 15. Radiator must be stock automobile. 16. Firewall holes must be covered. 17. Safety belts and/or lap harness belts are required. Seat belts must remain buckled during the entire time of the event. 18. Approved safety helmets are required, and must stay on during the entire length of time of the derby. 19. Must remove inside spare tire compartment lid and all seats, except the front seat from station wagons. 20. No grooved or double tires, no farm tires, regular automotive tires must be used, not to exceed 12 ply (7.00x15). No cement, hoops, liners or fluid in tires. Tire rating must be clearly legible on tire. TRYING TO KEEP DIRT OUT OF THE STANDS. 21. Vehicle numbers must be 18 and letters must be 10 on both sides and top of car. Use a clearly contrasting paint from the color of the vehicle, so it is visible and readable to the officials and announcer. ROOF SIGNS OK. 22. Vehicle frame and bumpers can be welded and have extra bars or plates (will not be allowed to derby at the end of the night) REMEMBER VEHICLES BUILT TO THESE RULES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DERBY, HOWEVER DERBY VEHICLES WILL BE ALLOWED TO RACE! VEHICLE RULES DEMOLITION DERBY 01. Accepted vehicles include: Any American made hardtop model stock car or station wagon. NO imperials, trucks, commercial vehicles or convertibles allowed. 02. All glass, chrome, exterior mirrors, headlights, chrome rings, emblems, grills and flammable materials must be removed. Glass cannot be rolled down, it must be removed. Rear seats must be removed. All vehicle preparations must be done prior to coming to the event. 03. Doors must be chained and welded securely; welds cannot exceed one foot (12 ) on any one side, top or bottom of all doors. Welding example: one (1) 12 weld or two (2) 6 welds with a gap separating them, or four (4) 3 welds with a gap between the welds. Weld not to exceed four feet total per door. All chains on vehicles must be at least a minimum of ¼ chain and a maximum of ½ chain. No chain can exceed 3 feet in length anywhere on the vehicle. 04. A behind driver, safety bar is mandatory and may be welded or bolted behind driver s seat from side to side. A safety bar on driver s side door area is mandatory and optional on passenger side, but is recommended. The driver s door side bracing must not exceed front windshield post to no more than 8 beyond the body seam. Bar may not run the full length, inside of vehicle. The safety bar and crossbar bracing cannot exceed 6 in diameter. Window post to window post bracing is allowed and recommended. No other bracing is allowed. 05. Trunk lids may be chained, bolted or welded. Maximum bolt, 1 in diameter maximum washer size, 6 in diameter and no more than ¼ thick. Only two (2) bolts are allowed on trunk, a maximum of four (4) chains no longer than three feet each may be used or two (2) chains and two (2) welds not to exceed 6 each. If not using bolts, door welding rule will be used on trunk, see Rule #02. 06. Hoods: Bolts or chains or all threads through hood to frame or wheel well are okay. Maximum of six (6) mounts, only two (2) may be connected to frame. You must have a minimum 6 x6 hole cut in hood for fire safety. Through hood exhaust is okay. HOODS MAY NOT BE WELDED!! 07. Vertical window bars are recommended. Maximum of three (3) bars or bands must be used. A window screen is allowed as long as screen can be easily removed for driver safety in an emergency. If dashboard is removed, side to side brace is allowed and recommended is dash position. 08. Fire extinguisher mounted securely, accessible to officials and driver. 09. Bumpers must be OEM stock (automotive). Stock brackets may be welded to bumper and frame. No braces welded or added to bumper. Bumper cannot be welded to car body. Chain around the bumper is allowed, and bumper tips and fender wells may be trimmed. No reinforcing with added metal. No wrapped, backed or reinforcing of bumper. Automotive makes may be swapped brackets MUST be of that car. Impacts of okay. 10. No chains or U-bolts allowed around body to frame on any car. If chain is needed after heat or repairs, you must contact track officials for approval and inspection prior to and after the repairs, no exceptions. All repairs must be painted white! 11. No raising or lowering of vehicle. Vehicles must be in stock position. Bumper height will be measured by officials and must be within factory specifications. Maximum height from ground to bottom of bumper not to exceed 19. No coil to leaf conversions. Only stock automobile springs. No extra leafs, no tape or welding on springs. OEM shackles only. 12. No trailer hitches or objects protruding outside of vehicle. 5
13. Gas tanks must be a safe container and made of steel (example: Jeep can, boat tank) and must be approved by an official. NO PLASTIC containers. Gas tanks must be securely placed and must be bolted and/or chained solid. Tanks must be capped and places directly and securely behind the driver area or in the center of the rear seat area, Stock gas tanks cannot be used and must be removed from the vehicle. NO electrical or pressure type fuel systems. Exception: newer model cars equipped with fuel injection systems that run with electrical fuel pumps, an electrical Kill Switch must be added, placed and marked where an official can easily shut it off from outside the vehicle. Roof of car is best location. 14. No truck third members or rear ends. 18. Safety belts and/or lap harness belts are required. Seat belts must remain buckled during the entire time of the event. 19. Approved safety helmets are required, and must stay on during the entire length of the derby. 20. Body to frame hardware and bushings must be OEM Stock. Frames must be in OEM condition on any and all vehicles. NO ADDED METAL (INCLUDING WELDS). No welding body to frame! 21. Must remove inside spare tire compartment lid and all seats, except the front seat from station wagons. 22. No grooved or double tires or farm tires. Regular automotive tires must be used, not to exceed 12 ply (7.00x15). No cement, hoops, liners or fluids in tires. Tire rating must be clearly legible on tire.
