PRODUCT OVERVIEW The Solar Smart R1 - MPPT solar charge controller is a new series of intelligent Solar Panel charge controllers from cro Instruments with embedded Ethernet for remote control and monitoring of solar sites. The Solar Smart controller supports SNMP(simple network management protocol) V1 and V2c for easy integration with any SNMP manager software or with -SNMP manager, the charge controller features embedded web pages for visual monitoring of parameters, control commands to an external relay board and GSM SMS external interface module for alarms, control and monitoring of the device - putting you in charge of your solar site! -SNMP manager support- * SNMP manager is a lightweight windows SNMP application monitoring the devices with graphing and email alerts. Common ground between PV input negative, battery negative and Load True Positive line control between solar input and battery and Load out
2. PRODUCT FEATURES Auto voltage select for 12Vdc or 24Vdc Battery systems. Measures voltage of both batteries in a series connected 24V battery bank and report the Total as well as individual battery voltages so that the declining health of a battery in a series stack can be quickly detected. Charge Flooded wet cell (lead acid), Gel and AGM batteries which is all family of the Lead acid battery. SNMP V1/V2c support is standard on the network interface. Rugged metal enclosure with local 2x16 LCD display for onsite parameter indication. Internal Fan with auto temp control, Fan on if heat-sink above 38 deg Four stage charge algorithm with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) to extract the maximum available power from the solar panel, the local LCD screen will replace the Solar panel voltage now and then to indicate the state of the charger. External temperature sensor supplied with the unit for battery temperature compensated charging. Alarm input Normally closed(n/c)and (potential free) for switch or alarm input device, the Amps in reading on the local LCD will be replaced with Alarm if the alarm input is active.
Output port for the -5 Relay board to control power to external equipment. Interface for the -Solar Smart GSM module to communicate via SMS with the Solar Smart Controller with free Android APP Google Play store GSM Controller Separate Solar input current, battery charge current and load current isolated hall effect (magnetic field) current sensors. The user now have quick access to input current from the solar panel, output current to the battery as well as the load current flowing to connected equipment. 3. PRODUCT OPERATING PARAMETERS BATTERIES 12v OR 24v AUTO SELECT the charge controller will automatically sense the connected voltage and select the required operating mode. 30 VDC max BATTERY Connection protected by 25Amp Blade fuse CHARGER OFF state = at night - no charging ON state = dusk or dawn charge maximum possible current BULK state = sunlight MPPT algorithm followed here to generate maximum power from the solar panel, Bulk state activates when more than 10w of power can be generated batteries will be charged to around 80% of full capacity until reaching the high charge end voltage limit. FLOAT state = if batteries reach charge end voltage and total current load, battery charging current and load current falls below 6 Amp, voltage control is then used to keep batteries at charge end voltage to charge the remaining 20%, should battery current + the load current increase above 6 Amps the charger will switch back to bulk state.
Temperature compensated voltage high end charging Ambient Temperature 12V Battery charge end 24V Battery charge end -4 deg C to 35 deg C = 14.1 V 28.2 V 36 deg C and > = 13.8 V 27.6 V - 5deg C and < = 14.3 V 28.6 V The Solar charge controller reads the temperature and change the charging high end voltage as per table above. CHARGE CURRENT. Charge current to the battery pack is electronically limited to 20 AMPS maximum Alarm INPUT Potential free switch contact- NO VOLTAGE INPUT, used for intrusion detection or solar panel removal with magnetic door switches When triggered the Alarm OID will stay at integer 1 for 2 minutes before resetting to 0,this is to not miss a alarm condition by polling SNMP from the unit and to compensate for Alarms with short alarm duration pulses. SOLAR PANEL INPUT MAXIMUM PV INPUT Voltage = 50V DC Maximum power for 12V system (14.1V x 20Amp)= 280 W Maximum power for 24V system (28.2V x 20Amp) = 560W Solar Panel input voltage clamp protection with 50V Gmov semiconductor The Solar Charger can charge 12V Battery systems from 12V(22V) solar panels or 24V(34V or 43.2V) solar panels, for 24V battery systems a (34V or higher Voltage) panel is required.
LOAD OUTPUT The load output from the regulator is controlled by a electronic switching device the output is protected via a 15 Amp Blade fuse 12V System Load output will be disabled at 11.0Vdc and re-enabled at 12.5V 24V system Load output will be disabled at 22.0V and re-enabled at 25.0V 4. CONNECTION DIAGRAMS 12V Connections CONNECTION ALWAYS CONNECT THE BATTERY PACK FIRST THEN THE SOLAR PANEL DISCONNECTION ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE SOLAR PANEL FIRST THEN THE BATTERY
4. CONNECTION DIAGRAMS 24V Connections CONNECTION ALWAYS CONNECT THE BATTERY PACK FIRST THEN THE SOLAR PANEL DISCONNECTION ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE SOLAR PANEL FIRST THEN THE BATTERY Reason for connecting centre tap between the 2 x 12V Batteries The wire connection from the centre tap of the series connected battery pack to charge controller can be a thin wire, only the voltage of the first battery from ground is sensed here in order for the charge controller to be able to tell the battery voltage of each one of the batteries in the series stack separately.

5. OPTIONAL RELAY BOARD AND GSM INTERFACE Relay board 5 Relays 10Amp with LED indication Solar Smart controls the relays in the following manner Relay 1 to Relay 3 can only do a toggle function meaning as soon as energized via web page relay will de-energized after 10sec-reset function Relay 4 and 5 can be switched on or off via web pages and will keep its position OPTIONAL GSM INTERFACE GSM interface comes with magnet base antenna FREE GSM controller APP on Google play store -GSM controller Please download -Solar Smart GSM module user manual for setup information of the GSM interface
6. RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS Remove the jumper below the LAN port, install across both pins, power the unit by connecting the battery. Leave at least 10sec, then remove jumper, unit will restart with factory default IP address of 192.168.1.2 Install the jumper over 1 pin only again to safely store the jumper 7. WEB INTERFACE SCREENSHOTS Home page Relays 5-1 = indicate with green dot if a relay is energized or not Module heartbeat = flickering dot to indicate active communication Alarm = OFF no alarm change to ON in case of alarm active Load output = indication if load output is on or off Battery voltage = Live battery voltage indication
