FERRIES FERRY TOSHIMA 1,389-GT Car Ferry FERRY TOSHIMA, an 86-meter long car ferry, was built at Uraga Works of Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd. and was delivered to Toshima Village in February 2000. The ship navigates at service speed of 19 knots, which enables it to make three round trips a week from Kagoshima via seven small islands to Naze of Amamioshima Island. 3. Two cargo gears of the stern ramp and 10-ton derrick are provided for shortening cargo handling time. 4. The stern ramp door connecting with the movable deck enables the loading and unloading of vehicles at various tidal levels and quay heights. 1. Twin controllable pitch propellers, twin high lift rudders and two bow thrusters are installed to achieve good maneuverability in narrow bays. 2. One set of fin stabilizer is provided for safe operation in rough seas. PCC / PCTC SIRIUS LEADER 5,300-unit Pure Car and Truck Carrier Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. delivered the SIRIUS LEADER, a 5,300-unit pure car and truck carrier, to Estrella Shipholding S.A. in July 2000. The vessel carries passenger cars, transporters, buses, trucks, dump trucks, and complete knockdown parts (CKD). 1. The vessel has twelve car decks including three liftable car decks. Liftable car decks are operated by self-rolling deck lifters. 2. The vessel has one stern ramp and one side ramp for car loading and unloading. Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. has completed the world largest grab dredger GOSHO and delivered to Kabushiki Kaisha Kojimagumi in May 2000. The dredger is a sister vessel of TOSHO, delivered in 1995, with some improvements. 1. The dredger realizes the large scale and economical dredging by the self-contained electro-hydraulic grab bucket and hydraulically operate counterweight balanced lifting / lowering system, patented by Kojimagumi. 2. Strong seizing power of the electro-hydraulic grab bucket realizes hard soil dredging. 3. Control system for level seizing minimizes roughness of seabed and realizes efficient dredging. 4. Travelling spud system without anchors and mooring lines, patented by Kojimagumi, eliminates anchoring work and minimizes working area. 5. Operation system of the dredger including mooring system is controlled from a remote operation room in a unified way.
