Date: 15 th July, 2008 STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR LIGHTING AND Page 3 of 6 DC DISTRIBUTION PANELS WITH MCBs Revision No.: 0 1.0 SCOPE This specification covers design, manufacture, testing and supply of lighting distribution panels and D.C. distribution panels with Miniature Circuit Breakers. 2.0 ELECTRIC SUPPLY SYSTEM 400 / 440 Volts, 3 Phase, 4 Wire, 50 Hz, supply with neutral solidly grounded for Lighting Distribution panels and supply voltage as required for D.C. Distribution panels. 3.0 STANDARDS Lighting & DC distribution panels shall be manufactured in accordance with the latest edition/amendment of Indian standard specification at the time of order, including amendments & in particular the following: IS 694 : PVC insulated cables for working voltages upto and including 1100 V IS 2147 : Degrees of Protection provided by enclosures for low voltage switchgear and control gear IS 8623 : Low voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies IS 8828 : Electrical accessories circuit breakers for overcurrent protection for household and similar installations. IS 12640 : Residual current operated circuit breakers. IS 13947 (Part - 1) : Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear - General rules IS 13947 (Part - 3) : Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear - Switches, Disconnectors, Switch disconnectors and Fuse combination units. 4.0 CONSTRUCTION 4.1 ENCLOSURE 4.2 GASKETS 4.3 MOUNTING Indoor Type - 14 guage sheet Steel, dust - damp - vermin - proof, with minimum degree of protection IP 52 in accordance with IS 2147. Neoprene (for doors / detachable covers, gland plates etc.) Wall mounting with external fixing lugs.
Date: 15 th July, 2008 Page 4 of 6 Revision No.: 0 STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR LIGHTING AND DC DISTRIBUTION PANELS WITH MCBs 4.4 GENERAL ARRANGEMENT Three separate compartments to be provided, one for incoming MCB / Switch, one for outgoing MCBs, and one for outgoing terminal blocks. Door for each compartment to be hinged type with quick release fasteners. The incomer can be a switch (door interlocked) or MCB without thermal and magnetic releases. Outgoing MCBs shall be provided with thermal and magnetic releases. Outgoing MCBs should be mounted on a bracket covered with sheet steel barrier plate with only opening for dollies. Dollies of MCB should be accessible only after opening the outer door. Barrier plate shall be hinged type / bolted with fixing screws. 4.5 CABLE ENTRY Suitable for bottom entry. Separate undrilled removable gland plates to be provided at top/bottom for incoming/outgoing compartments. The clear space (minimum 150 mm) between terminal block and gland plate shall be provided for ease of termination and connection of cables / wires. 5.0 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Arrangement for keeping 'tabular form circuit card' on the inside of outgoing compartment door shall be provided. 6.0 ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS & WIRING 6.1 BUS BARS Electrolytic quality copper / aluminium busbars of adequate size for the required current rating. 6.2 MAIN SWITCH Triple pole & neutral quick make and break, heavy duty type as per IS 13947 (Part 3). Incoming terminals of isolating switch shall be shrouded. Alternatively TP MCB and bolted link shall be provided. 6.3 CIRCUIT SWITCHES MCBs, Single / Double / Triple pole with thermal and magnetic releases, as required. 6.4 Wiring between incoming switch / MCB & busbars shall be with stranded copper PVC wires of suitable size, colour coded. Wiring for outgoing circuits with 2.5 sq.mm. single conductor copper PVC wires colour coded red, yellow, blue, black with suitable identification ferrules. 6.5 TERMINAL BLOCK a) For incoming: Stud / clamp type, suitable for incoming cable size and rating required. b) For outgoing: Clamp type complete with spring washer, suitable for connection with 6 sq.mm. aluminium conductors rated for 30A including neutral terminals for each circuit.
Date: 15 th July, 2008 STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR LIGHTING AND Page 5 of 6 DC DISTRIBUTION PANELS WITH MCBs Revision No.: 0 7.0 EARTHING Two Numbers 6mm external earthing terminals complete with two plain and one spring / lock washer and a nut on opposite side of the panels shall be provided. Earth bus of size 32 x 6 mm. to be provided in outgoing terminal box with no. of tinned copper crimping type lugs equal to no. of outgoing circuits. 8.0 PAINTING All metal surfaces shall be thoroughly cleaned and degreased to remove scale, rust, grease and dirt. Fabricated structures shall be pickled and then rinsed to remove any trace of acid. The surface shall be prepared by applying a coat of phosphate paint and coat of yellow zinc chromate primer. The surface shall be made free from all imperfections before undertaking the finishing coat. After preparation of the surfaces, the switchboard shall be powder coated with two coats of epoxy based final paint. Colour shade of final paint shall be 632 as per IS: 5. The finished panels shall be dried in stoving ovens in dust free atmosphere. Panel finish shall be free from imperfections like pinholes, orange peels, runoff paint etc. All unpainted steel parts shall be cadmium plated or suitably treated to prevent rust formation. If these parts are moving elements then they shall be greased. 9.0 NAME PLATES & LABEL Rear engraved perspex with white letters on black background. The inscription on nameplates shall be as per requirement. A separate transparent acrylic or equivalent caution nameplate 'LIVE TERMINALS' in red letters on white background shall be provided above the main incoming terminals to prevent accidental contact. Labels giving circuit designation (R1, Y4, B6 etc) shall be provided for various components such as fuses, switches, terminal blocks inside the panel. 10.0 DRAWINGS AND TEST CERTIFICATES Copies of drawings and test certificates shall be furnished as per Vendor Document Requirement enclosed elsewhere. 11.0 TESTS & INSPECTION 11.1 Minimum following tests shall be carried out during the inspection: a) Insulation test with 500V megger. b) High Voltage Test. c) Continuity Test with extra low voltage (ELV) tester. d) Earth continuity test with extra low voltage (ELV) tester. e) Functional Test. 11.2 The purchaser reserves the right to inspect the Distribution Panels and witness the tests before despatch at Manufacturer's works.
Date: 15 th July, 2008 Page 6 of 6 Revision No.: 0 STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR LIGHTING AND DC DISTRIBUTION PANELS WITH MCBs 12.0 SPARES The Bidder shall provide with his quotation, separate priced list of recommended operation and maintenance spares. 13.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE 13.1 Quality assurance shall follow the requirements of Jacobs Q.A. documents, as applicable. 13.2 Q.A. involvement will commence at bid stage and follow through to completion and acceptance, thus ensuring total conformity to Purchasers requirements. 14.0 DEVIATIONS 14.1 Deviation from specification must be stated in writing at the bid stage. 14.2 In absence of such statement, it will be assumed that the requirements of the specification are met without exception.
