GATE VALVE Gate Valves are the most commonly used shut off valve in the industry today. They are used where minimum pressure drop and bi-directional on-off service is required. Normally Gate Valves are not designed for throttling service. Prolonged use in the partially open position will damage seating surfaces. Gate valves are available with wedge configurations of solid and flexible type to meet the specific service conditions. Gate Valves normally are handwheel operated but are also available with gearing and electric motor actuator for remote operation.

Gate Valve - Features BHEL Cast Steel Bolted Bonnet Gate Valves are available with a full selection of wedge types to match operating service conditions. Specify the type best suited to your service conditions. SOLID WEDGE This is the most common wedge type. It is also the strongest, simplest and highly resistant to vibration. It is not self-compensating to seat distortion caused by high temperature thermal expansion or bending moments. Contd...

FLEX WEDGE (Single piece) : The flex wedge is machined with a circumferential groove to allow the seating faces to move independently and adjust to movement of the body seats. It is used where line loads or thermal expansion of the system is likely to distort the seat face in the valve. This type of wedge is not recommended for corrosive services but is ideally suited for steam or high temperature services. Flex wedge (Two piece) : Optional for bigger size valves (sizes 14 and above).

Gate Valve - Features Body/bonnet joints on BHEL gate valves are designed for rugged services. The standard joint varies depending on valve class. These standard joints are shown. BODY BONNET JOINT CLASS 150 - The standard, flat, oval bonnet joint is the simplest configuration for low pressure services. Our standard gasket is flat asbestos but spiral wound gaskets are available for critical applications. BODY BONNET JOINT CLASS 300, 400, 600 & 900 - The circular male and female bonnet joint is self-aligning and well suited for intermediate pressure classes. Gate Valve - Features T-HEAD STEM All BHEL Gate Valves are provided with T-head connections. This design also allows the wedge to self-align, eliminating the possibility of a bent stem jamming the wedge. PACKING ADJUSTMENT All valves are provided with a two-piece packing gland to minimise the possibility of scoring the stem, if the gland is tightened unevenly. Eye bolts remain fastened to the bonnet ; they swing out of the way to simplify packing replacement and are oriented so that they can be adjusted from one side of the valve. Contd...

Gate Valve - Features GLAND Packing rings are of high grade braided asbestos reinforced and graphited. Other packings are available when specified. Valves with lantern rings can be supplied when specified. BALL BEARING YOKE BUSH Large valves require tremendous amount of torques to open and close the valve. Use of ball bearings in the yoke bush reduces the operating torques and easy operation of handwheel is obtained.

GLOBE VALVE Globe Valves are used where frequent on-off service is required. They can also be used for throttling purpose with a special profile on disc. It is generally confined to applications where the valve is normally closed and pressure drop is not important when the valve is open. Normally Globe Valves are installed with flow under the disc. BHEL Globe Valves with regulating disc offers a linear flow characteristics curve.

Globe Valve - Features Cast Steel Bolted Bonnet Valves - BL Series PACKING ADJUSTMENT All valves are provided with two-piece packing gland to minimise the possibility of scoring the stem, if the gland is tightened unevenly. The gland is made of a corrosion resistant material with high strength gland flange. Eye bolts remain fastened to the bonnet; they swing out of the way to simplify packing replacement and are oriented so that they can be adjusted from one side of the valve. GLAND Packing rings are of high grade braided asbestos reinforced and graphited. Other packings are available when specified. Valves with lantern rings are widely used, where the escape of medium is to be prevented. Valves with lantern rings can be supplied when specified.

SWING CHECK VALVE Swing Check Valves are used to prevent flow reversal in piping systems. They are suitable for service in horizontal or vertical (flow up through the valve only) piping runs. Swing Check Valves have low pressure drop and are best suited for moderate velocity applications. Correct sizing of Swing Check Valve is important. Either too low a line velocity or too high a velocity will affect the valve function. Service in systems involving rapid and frequent flow reversals, pulsation or turbulant flow should be avoided.

ARM Cast Steel Bolted Bonnet Valves - BL Series BONNET JOINT Sturdy bonnet joints for reliable bonnet seal. DISC STOP Provides positive stop in open position, positions disc to effectively function in either horizontal or vertical (flow-up) pipe runs. SEAT RING Heavy duty, full ported ring threaded into body for easy maintenance. Optionally seal welded. BODY Full ported, heavy duty body with sufficient wall thickness for maximum service life.
