SUZUKI DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM OPERATION MANUAL Specifications and functions of Suzuki Diagnosis System (1) The system diagnoses troubles by communicating with the onboard computer by means of the specially designed software that operates on commercially available Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP and Vista, the special interface box that translates/converts the computer communication signals, and the special communication cable. (2) Taking application to motorcycle into consideration, the interface box has been made compact and light in weight. (98 77 25 mm; 150 g) In addition to the provision of connector to the vehicle, the system is equipped with two types of connector for communication with the computer, USB and RS-232C, so as to be compatible with both new and old computers. (3) The interface box is not waterproof because standardized connectors are used. The operable temperature range is 0 50 C. The maximum vibration resistance is 2.2G, which requires protection from impact and vibration. (4) For communication protocol between the computer and adaptor, the international standard ISO14230 is used. (5) This special software is compatible with eight languages, Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Greek and Portuguese. (6) Whether the engine is operating or at halt, the data received from various sensors are displayed in realtime or can be plotted. The data or graph displayed can be saved and printed. (7) The type of data to be displayed can be selected. (8) The saved data can be re-displayed and plotted in the graph. (9) The failure code (both past and current) that has been memorized at the time of failure can be called back and displayed. The change of data record at the time of failure (2 cases maximum) can be also displayed. (10) A trigger can be set up for the diagnostic data. The trigger is a function that starts recording the data from where the set value is exceeded (or comes short) for one or more data. This function can also record the timing to display the trouble code in the monitoring graph. (11) The active control is possible. (Such as secondary air solenoid drive, etc.) (12) The system can record the data of about 30 minute-operation as well as driving data. They can be read out and verified. (13) The system requires setting up of an additional function to the onboard ECU and use of a special connector. The diagnosis system is applicable to the new models produced in and after May 2002 (AN 650 onward) and their model-changes. This system is not applicable to those models that were produced earlier than the above.

SETUP TRIGGER Set up the trigger to be used by Data monitor. Select the trigger from five types listed below. Without trigger Any of DTC Specific DTC Trigger of input data Manual trigger Trigger can record the timing of DTC display or can be operated as record start timing of the saved data. When the condition of failure is not clear, it is necessary to determine the engine speed and throttle opening etc. at the time of failure. The conditions of failure can be narrowed down by making the detected DTC memorize as trigger. In addition, it is possible to set up the change of input data as trigger. The trigger setup is composed as shown below. Trigger type designation Specific diagnostic code (DTC) designation Trigger of input data setting Post trigger process setting 32

Trigger type designation Select the trigger type as shown below. SETTING ITEM Without trigger Any of DTC Specific DTC Trigger of input data Manual trigger DESCRIPTION Voids trigger setting. Sets the change of number of diagnostic codes detected in the vehicle as trigger. Sets the trigger when diagnostic code (DTC) designated on Specific diagnostic code (DTC) designation page is detected in the vehicle. Sets the change of input data (Data monitor item) value as trigger. Details are set on the Trigger of input data setting page. Sets the trigger when the user presses the F2 key. BUTTON OPERATION BUTTON PROCESS Finish Next Determines the designated trigger type and ends Setup trigger. Only valid when Without trigger is selected. Moves to the next Trigger Setup Wizard page. NUMERIC ITEM TRIGGER SETTING Determine the detailed settings for numeric item trigger used in Trigger of input data. SETTING ITEM Level Slope condition Combinations SETTING This sets up level to be used as threshold of the trigger. Upward Downward Both OR AND The trigger is performed when the value of the item rises from below Level and exceeds Level. The trigger is performed when the value of the item falls from above Level and goes down past Level. The trigger is performed with either of the above Upward or Downward. When an item specified with OR detects at least one trigger, a trigger point is set and thereafter sample is taken. Only when all other items specified by AND detect trigger, a trigger point is set and thereafter sample is taken. Upward Downward Level Waveform of data 0 0.5 1.0 1.5 2.0 sec/div 36

TEXT ITEM TRIGGER SETTING Determine the detailed settings for text item trigger used in Trigger of input data. SETTING ITEM Level Slope condition Combinations SETTING Designates condition for trigger judgment. ON OFF OR AND The trigger is performed when item value reaches condition designated by Level. The trigger is performed when item value deviates from condition designated by Level. When an item specified with OR detects at least one trigger, a trigger point is set and thereafter sample is taken. Only when all other items specified by AND detect trigger, a trigger point is set and thereafter sample is taken. 37

Confirm the trigger of input data in detail by clicking Details. Manual trigger The trigger is performed when TriggerSw (F2 key) is clicked. 38

Post trigger process setting Set up the process after trigger detection. SETTING VALUE SETTING VALUE DESCRIPTION Number of samples after trigger Designates the number of samples from time of detection to end of sampling. One sampling takes 0.2 second. Trigger dot display in hold mode transit Automatically moves to Hold mode when sampling ends after trigger. At this time, designate which point of graph the trigger point is displayed. Number of Div stands for number of scale marks. Confirm the trigger settings and close window by clicking Finish. If closing the window, all previous sampling data is cleared and sampling is restarted in Run mode. 39

SAMPLE DISPLAY OF TRIGGER POINT The following shows sample display of trigger point when the clutch switch signal is selected as trigger and the trigger dot display is set to 5 Div. 5 Div Trigger * The trigger point is shown at the green dashed line in the graph. 40

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INSPECTION DTC history TCM ECM RAM ROM Interface box PC ECM integrating ROM can keep DTC data in memory even with the battery disconnected. TCM integrating RAM, however, loses the memorized DTC data once the battery has been disconnected. Therefore, caution must be used. Make sure to take note or print out DTC of TCM (Transmission) before disconnecting the battery. Click DTC inspection and the DTC history window will be displayed. 41

DTC history DISPLAY The past DTCs will not be displayed in the occurrence order from top. Note: The date of trouble is not identifiable. CLEARING DTC HISTORY Start To clear DTC, click Clear button, and all memorized DTCs will be cleared. 42

DISPLAYING DATA AT THE TIME OF TROUBLE inspection OF DATA AT THE TIME OF TROUBLE Click Show data when trouble, and the window shown below will be displayed. Start In this window, the data at the time of trouble can be checked. 43

P-CODE P0105-L P0105-H P0335 C-CODE C13 (IAPS) C13 (IAPS) C12 (CKPS) The first and second DTCs can be identified. Note: The date of trouble is not identifiable. Start The data before and after detecting trouble can be checked. 44

5V 4.5V 0.5V 0V 0.4<Sensor voltage<4.5 This is the waveform of sensor voltage. The trouble is detected at the voltage exceeding 4.5V and is determined because it is not compensated to within the specified voltage range in several seconds. 45

INSPECTION BY COMPARISON OF SAVED DATA Click Show saved data in Select system screen. Select and open the first data. Note: Clicking the hold button on the data monitor screen activates the comparison button to compare measured data with the saved data. 46

Click Comparison button to select data to be compared. Select and open the data to be compared. Note: Up to two data to be compared can be selected. Note: If there is any discrepancy in system or model type between the stored data selected and the initial data, the following message will be displayed. 47

When right clicking the file name, the context menu is displayed to make it possible to Change a graph color, Load comparison data and Remove comparison data. After all data selections are completed, determine the overlaying point of each graph, and displays the most right hand overlaying point on the screen. 48

Click the graph scroll radio button to move the graph. The graph of data selected will be highlighted. Select the data of graph to be moved from the drop-down list.
