CABLE ROUTING SPEC D Route the leads inside the frame bracket. E Clamp the starter relay lead rectifier/ regulator lead and sidestand switch lead. F Clamp the rectifier/regulator lead. G Fasten the leads witin 40 m from rectifire/ regulator with a band. H Route the brake hose through the brake hose holder. I Clamp the speed meter cable to the under bracket and through the wire holder of front fender. 8

CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE STEERING HEAD INSP ADJ EB30430 CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE STEER- ING HEAD. Stand the motorcycle on a level surface. WARNING Securely support the motorcycle so that there is no danger of it falling over. NOTE: Place the motorcycle on a suitable stand so that the front wheel is elevated. 2. Check: steering head Grasp the bottom of the front fork legs and gently rock the front fork. Looseness/binding Adjust the steering head. 3. Remove: handlebar 4. Loosen: upper bracket pinch bolts 5. Remove: steering stem nut 2 washer 3 6. Remove: speed meter upper bracket 2 9

CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE STEERING HEAD INSP ADJ 6.Adjust: steering head a. Remove the lock washer, the upper ring nut 2, and the rubber washer 3. b. Loosen the lower ring nut 4 and then tighten it to specification with a ring nut wrench 5. NOTE: Set the torque wrench at a right angle to the steering nut wrench. Steering nut wrench 90890-0268 Lower ring nut (initial tightening torque) 38 Nm (3.8 m kg) c. Loosen the lower ring nut completely, then tighten it to specification. WARNING Do not overtighten the lower ring nut. Lower ring nut (final tightening torque) 4 Nm (0.4 m kg) d. Check the steering head for looseness or binding by turning the front fork all the way in both directions. If any binding is felt, remove the lower bracket and check the upper and lower bearings. Refer to STEERING HEAD in chapter 6. e. Install the rubber washer 3. f. Install the upper ring nut 2. g. Finger tighten the upper ring nut 2, then align the slots of both ring nuts. If necessary, hold the lower ring nut and tighten the upper ring nut until their slots are aligned. h. Install the lock washer. NOTE: Make sure that the lock washer tabs a sit correctly in the ring nut slots b. 7. Install: steering stem nut upper bracket pinch bolt 0 Nm (.0 m kg) 26 Nm (2.6 m kg) 0

CYLINDER HEAD ENG EB40430 CHECKING THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER. Check: timing chain tensioner Cracks/damage/rough movement Replace. a. Lightly press the timing chain tensioner rod into the timing chain tensioner housing by hand. NOTE: While pressing the timing chain tensioner rod, wind it clockwise with a thin screwdriver until it stops. b. Remove the screwdriver and slowly release the timing chain tensioner rod. c. Make sure that the timing chain tensioner rod comes out of the timing chain tensioner housing smoothly. If there is rough movement, replace the timing chain tensioner. SR******** CYLINDER HEAD INSTALLATION. Install: dowel pins New gasket 2 gasket (cylinder head) 3 New 2. Install: cylinder head M8 ( 4) 22 Nm (2.2 m kg) M8 (5 6) 20 Nm (2.0 m kg) NOTE: Apply engine oil onto the nut threads. Tighten the bolts starting with the lowest numbered one. 2

CYLINDER HEAD ENG 3. Install: Cam sprocket Timing chain Installing steps: Turn the crank shaft counterclockwise until the slit matches the stationary pointer 2. Align the dowel pin 3 on the camshaft with the stationary pointer 4 on the cylinder head. Align the I mark 5 on the cam sprocket with the stationary pointer 6 on the cylinder head. Fit the timing chain 7 onto cam sprocket 8 and install the cam sprocket on the camshaft. NOTE: When installing the cam sprocket, keep the timing chain as tight as possible on the exhaust side. CAUTION: Do not turn the crankshaft during installation of the camshaft. Damage or improper valve timing will result. Remove the safety wire from the timing chain. 4. Install: Plate washer Bolt (timing chain) 5. Install: timing chain tensioner a. Lightly press the timing chain tensioner rod into the timing chain tensioner housing by hand. b. While pressing the timing chain tensioner rod, wind it clockwise with a thin screwdriver until it stops. c. With the screwdriver still inserted into the timing chain tensioner, install the timing chain tensioner 2, gasket 3 onto the cylinder block. Then, tighten the timing chain tensioner bolts 4 to the specified torque. 3

CYLINDER HEAD ENG WARNING Always use a new gasket. Timing chain tensioner bolt 0 Nm (.0 m kg) d. Remove the screwdriver, make sure that the timing chain tensioner rod releases, and tighten the cap bolt to the specified torque. Cap bolt 0 Nm (.0 m kg) 6. Tighten: Bolt (timing chain) 60 Nm (6.0 m kg) NOTE: Install the bolt while holding the magneto mounting bolt with a wrench. 7. Turn: crankshaft (several turns counterclockwise) 8. Check: Magneto rotor slit Align the stationary pointer with the crankcase cover (left). Cam sprocket I mark Align the stationary pointer with the cylinder head. Out of alignment Adjust. 9.
