B6 A4 INJECTOR INSTALLATION L A T I N

Tool Needed: - Flathead Screwdriver (large) - Flathead Screwdriver (small) - Ratchet - 5mm Allen Socket If you are using the APR Injectors, you will also need the following: - M27x1.5 Hand Tap - 20mm Allen Socket - 18mm Socket APR Injectors with Seats and Special Tool Tools Needed

Step 1 Remove the Engine cover. Use a large flathead screwdriver to remove the three quarter-turn screws. Installation Procedure

Step 2 Relieve Fuel Pressure. WARNING: ENGINE MUST BE COOL! Remove the fuel filler cap to alleviate pressure in the fuel system. Remove the fuel rail pressure cap. The cap is a small black cap fitted to the end of the fuel rail. With a small flat head screw driver depress the valve release pin. CAUTION! Fuel will exit under pressure! Use a rag to cover the valve as you release the fuel pressure.

Step 3 Remove Fuel Rail Bolts. To remove the fuel rail, unfasten the two 5mm allen head cap bolts. Be careful not to drop them into the engine bay.

Step 4 Remove Fuel Rail. Grasp firmly then slowly lift the fuel rail assembly. Pull the fuel rail and injectors away from the intake manifold at the same angle at which they have been inserted. You may have to wiggle the rail to help with the removal.

Step 5 Remove Injector Wiring Connectors. Press the metal clip inwards to release the wire harness while disconnecting it from the injector body. Remove all four injector harness connectors.

Step 6 Remove Fuel Injectors. Remove the injector retaining clip using a small flathead screwdriver. Take note of the positioning of the retaining clip and how it connects to the injector and the fuel rail. Remove a four stock injectors and replace them with the supplied injectors. Be sure to very lightly lube the the o-rings on the new injectors with motor oil. **If you are using the Bosch Injectors, skip to Step 11 at this point.

Step 7 Remove Injector Seats. Before performing the following steps, you may wish to remove the intake manifold from the car. This is optional, but ensures that no debris enters and damages the engine. The plastic injector seats are removed with a 20mm allen socket. The seats are threaded and turn out counterclockwise. Be aware that the seats are usually destroyed when being removed.

Step 8 Chase Threads in Intake Manifold. If you did not remove the intake manifold, you should put clean shop rags inside of the intake manifold to prevent debris from falling down the intake runners. Put a light oil on the M27 x 1.5 tap, and chase the threads where the factory injector seats were. Excess force should not be needed at this point, as you are simply cleaning excess sealant off of the threads. To determine if the threads are clean enough, one of the new injector seats should easily hand-thread into the intake holes. If they do not, chase the threads again with the tap.

Step 9 Clean Up and Prepare Seats. If you did not remove the intake manifold, you should use a vacuum cleaner to suck out any excess debris from the intake manifold. The shop rags can now be removed carefully, as they may have debris on them as well. Using a thread sealant such as Permatex High Temparature Thread Sealant or Loctite 567 PST (NOT a thread locker), place a thin coat on the threads of the new APR injector seats.

Step 10 Insert New Seats. Thread the new APR injector seats in by hand. If there is resistance, stop and go back to Step 8. Once the seat is completely in place, set the supplied tool on the new seats and carefully align the slots. Use an 18mm socket and torque the injector seats in the intake manifold to 20inch-lbs. Overtorquing will damage the injector seats.

Step 11 Reinstall Injectors. Reinstall the injectors in the car. For cars equipped with the APR fuel injectors, the supplied spacer and longer bolts are needed between the fuel rail and the intake manifold. Be sure to fully press the injectors all the way into the new seats. Also, properly attach the factory retaining clip into the groove of the injector (see arrow in picture) onto the lip of the fuel rail, just like the stock injectors that you removed in Step 6.

Step 12 Reinstallation. The reassembly of the fuel system is the reverse of the removal. Be aware that the car may take slightly longer to start the first time after installing injectors.
