Solar Photovoltaic Panels
Clean Renewable Abundant Why Choose Solar? Solar power is one of the most promising sources of energy for the 21st Century. The amount of sunlight striking earth in any given hour contains light energy equivalent to the world s total energy consumption for one year. And with more than 50 years of refinement and use in outer space as well as large-scale solar farms right here on earth, solar power is ready for mainstream use like never before. Solar power systems generate electricity with zero emission of gases associated with global warming and acid rain, making it an indispensable source of clean energy for the future. How Solar Energy Generation Works Typical residential solar power systems use roof-mounted photovoltaic (PV) panels to generate the electricity needed for day-to-day living. By integrating these systems with the local power grid, homeowners can automatically sell surplus electricity through the local grid or top up their solar generated supply by purchasing additional electricity from their local provider as necessary. This highly efficient system delivers a stable supply of electricity while ensuring that none of the power generated goes to waste. Off-Grid System The energy captured by the Mitsubishi Electric panels is supplied to an inverter/charger which maintains and charges the storage batteries, while also converting stored energy into AC power suitable for domestic use. The stored energy can then be used to power different requirements within the house such as lighting and electrical appliances. On-Grid System The energy captured by the Mitsubishi Electric panels is supplied to an inverter that converts the PV energy into AC power suitable for domestic use. This power is combined with the electricity grid at the house distribution board, where power metering records the amount generated by the system or consumed off the grid. Any surplus electricity generated by the PV system that is not consumed at the home is sent into the grid and credited against the electricity bill. Leaders in Photovoltaic Technology Mitsubishi Electric s philosophy for manufacturing photovoltaic products comes from three unwavering basic principles: superior technologies, the highest quality, and long-term reliability. Photovoltaic systems are a long-term investment; therefore, no compromises should be made when choosing the right products in order to avoid future problems. The Mitsubishi Electric difference lies in all of the small details that add up for outstanding performance. ANTI-REFLECTIVE GLASS Anti-reflective coating added to each of our panels improves light transmittance which, in turn, has led to an output increase of 2%. FLEXI-CELL TAB WIRING Flexible tab material has been developed to reduce physical stress on the cells caused by thermal fluctuations. NEWLY RE-DESIGNED JUNCTION BOX Each junction box features a waterproof, flame-resistant 4 layer barrier of protection. Combined with highly heatresistant diodes, efficient heat-sink, and secured intertwining tab connections, our junction boxes boast top-class level of safety. I-FRAME DESIGN/PROTECTION BAR The newly refined I-frame increases PV panel strength approximately twofold. Through using a smart protection bar insert the structural strength of the panel is enhanced, which enables it to endure extreme environmental conditions. MLE SERIES FOUR BUSBAR CELL Through an industry leading innovation of integrating 4 busbars (conductive bars) into each cell, internal electrical resistance is reduced, thereby boosting cell output by 3%. SELECTIVE EMITTER Introducing a new selective emitter process allows Mitsubishi Electric panels to achieve a cell output increase of approximately 5%. FULL SIZE HALF-CUT HALF-CUT CELL Innovative half-cut cells result in electrical current carried by each busbar being reduced by half, thereby decreasing electrical resistance and increasing overall efficiency by 2.5%. High Quality, Extreme Reliability Mitsubishi Electric photovoltaic panels exhibit the utmost quality and reliability, meaning top performance in any conditions. Installable in areas with high salt concentration High salt content in the air can do serious damage to the structural integrity of a PV panel, as well as posing an electrical safety hazard due to corrosion. However, due to the high quality of materials used and the double anti-corrosion coating, our panels can be safely installed in such areas with high salt concentration in the air.* High loading Mitsubishi Electric panels have been designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions. The high structural strength of these panels has passed the IEC 61215 static loading test at 5400Pa making them the perfect solution for areas that experience snow. *Excluding areas in which the panel comes into direct contact with salt water.
Queenstown Residence Tucked away in picturesque Queenstown, this secluded residence features one of the largest photovoltaic (PV) installations in New Zealand. Rated at an impressive 21.6kW, the install, split between the roof of the house and a ground mounted system, consists of 120 highly efficient Mitsubishi Electric PV panels. Being situated in an area where power cuts can be both frequent and sometimes lengthy meant there was an overarching need for this system to work as either off-grid or on-grid. Installing a back-up system gave the residence complete control. Whilst operating off-grid, the system is capable of producing enough energy to power the entire house, with any excess power stored in batteries. When operating on-grid this large scale array can be set up to provide a portion of the overall power usage which is fed back to the grid during offpeak times (i.e. during the day or periods of low demand). This means the grid itself effectively becomes storage, all whilst offsetting the household s overall electricity costs. First Light House In 2011, Victoria University of Wellington s First Light team were selected as the Southern Hemisphere s only ever entry into the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon. To compete, each team was tasked with demonstrating innovative clean-energy solutions by designing, constructing and showcasing a solar-powered house. Taking this opportunity to showcase NZ s bach culture, the First Light team needed to design and build a bach which exhibited strong kiwi values without compromising on the need to be a net zero dwelling (i.e. produce at least as much energy as it uses). The First Light House met the overarching objective of achieving the net zero requirement by installing 28 highly efficient 225W Mitsubishi Electric Photovoltaic Solar Panels, allowing a maximum output of 6.3 kwh. These solar panels can be used either as part of an on-grid or off-grid system. Used on grid, they are so efficient they can produce more power than needed for the First Light House. This extra energy can then be redirected back to the grid. When used off-grid the extra energy generated in months with greater sunshine hours can be stored in a battery bank and then recycled for use in months with reduced sunshine. With the Energy Balance contest judging houses based on their ability to achieve a net zero balance, the First Light house gained the maximum 100 points.
