1 GENERAL The RSS-2000 is an all-electric wedge-type vehicle barrier that is K-12 certified by the Department f State (tested t stp a 15,000 lb. vehicle traveling at 50 MPH). The RSS-2000's nrmal perating speed is less than 3 secnds regardless f temperature (-40 degrees F t +200 degrees F). The RSS-2000 has a diamnd plate anti-skid drive surface that flush munts with the radway. All barrier systems are fully tested, peratinal, and ready t install when shipped frm the factry. The simple design f the RSS-2000 requires almst n maintenance even in high traffic applicatins. 1.1 Purpse This manual prvides basic infrmatin n the peratin and preventative maintenance f the RSS-2000 Electric Wedge Vehicle Barrier and is designed t assist User Persnnel. 1.2 NEXT GENERATION SERVO EM TECHNOLOGY The MPAI-Series Serv Actuatr designed by Allan Bradley fr RSSI prducts represents a leap ahead in electric mtr technlgy. It uses rller screw technlgy, which has 15 times the travel life f an equivalent size ball screw. The MPAI-Series actuatr functins in the same manner as a brushless servmtr. The serv drive rtates the mtr at cntrlled speeds and trque, fr a cntrlled number f revlutins and mve times. This rtary mtin translates int linear mtin by use f the internal planetary rller screw mechanism f the MPAI-Series actuatr. Figure 1-1, MPAI-Series Cutaway PAGE 3 OF 23
All actuatrs have IP-67 DIN Cnnectrs (water resistant) and a manual verdrive fr the brake that allws fr the manual peratin f the barrier UP r DOWN using a crdless drill with the prper attachment. The MPAI- Series actuatr incrprates an abslute encder as the primary rtary feedback device. If pwer is lst the barrier retains its psitin s as pwer is restred; n hming r calibratin is required. The MPAI-Series Serv Actuatr has an internal hlding brake. Whenever there is nt pwer t the brake, the armature is held in place preventing the inverted rller screw frm turning and prevents the utput rd frm back driving, which in turn prevents the utput rd frm mving. 1.3 Limited Warranty Figure 1-2, MPAI Series Serv Actuatr in RSS-2000 Barrier RSSI Barriers, LLC. warranties the RSS-2000 Series f Barriers (RSS-2000, RSS-2000V, RSS-2000VI) t be free f defects in wrkmanship and materials fr a perid f 3 years fr electrical and 5 years fr mechanical cmpnents PARTS ONLY. The end user agrees t assume all respnsibility fr all liability invlving the use f this prduct, releasing RSSI Barriers, LLC f all liability. All RSSI barriers require minimal maintenance; hwever, there are sme tasks that need t be perfrmed after the barrier is installed t insure cmpliance with the warranty prvided. When the RSSI barrier is installed and nt accepted by the end user until a later date, the quarterly preventive maintenance tasks lcated in Attachment 1 f the Operatr s Manual must be accmplished until acceptance by the end user. Likewise, after acceptance the end user is required t cnduct these quarterly preventive maintenance tasks t ensure the warranty is valid. IN ORDER TO USE THE VEHICLE BARRIER, YOU MUST UNDERSTAND AND BE IN FULL UNCONDITIONAL AGREEMENT WITH ALL STIPULATIONS OUTLINED ABOVE. IF YOU ARE NOT IN FULL AGREEMENT, DO NOT PUT UNIT INTO OPERATION. Please NOTE the prcedures may cause injury r death t persnnel, r damage t equipment if NOT prperly fllwed. Prir t perfrming any task, the WARNINGS, CAUTIONS, and NOTES included in that task shall be reviewed and understd. 1.4.1.1 Warnings, Cautins and Ntes WARNINGS and CAUTIONS are used in this manual t highlight perating r maintenance prcedures, practices, cnditins r statements that are cnsidered essential t prtectin f persnnel (WARNING) r equipment (CAUTION). WARNINGS and CAUTIONS immediately precede the step r prcedure t which they apply. WARNINGS and CAUTIONS cnsist f three parts: heading (WARNING, CAUTION, r NOTE); a statement f the hazard; minimum precautins and pssible result if disregarded. NOTES are used in this manual t highlight perating r maintenance prcedures, practices, cnditins r statements that are nt essential t prtectin f persnnel r equipment. NOTES may precede r fllw the step r prcedure, depending upn the infrmatin t which it pertains. The headings used and their definitins are as fllws. HIGHLIGHTS AN ESSENTIAL OPERATING OR MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE, PRACTICE, CONDITION, STATEMENT, ETC. WHICH IF NOT STRICTLY OBSERVED, COULD RESULT IN INJURY TO, OR DEATH OF, PERSONNEL OR LONG TERM HEALTH HAZARDS. HIGHLIGHTS AN ESSENTIAL OPERATING OR MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE, PRACTICE, CONDITION, STATEMENT, ETC, WHICH, IF NOT STRICTLY OBSERVED, COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO, OR DESTRUCTION OF, EQUIPMENT OR LOSS OF MISSION EFFECTIVENESS. HIGHLIGHTS AN ESSENTIAL OPERATING OR MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE, CONDITION, OR STATEMENT. 1.4.2 Safety Instructins Operatrs f the RSS-2000 vehicle barrier MUST cmply with the fllwing imprtant safety instructins PRIOR TO and DURING the peratin f the RSS-2000 vehicle barrier. Read and cmply with all safety rules in this manual befre perating the barrier. A fully trained maintenance persn must perfrm all maintenance wrk. In the case f an unmanned gate peratin, vehicles must remain clear f the barrier during the raising and lwering f the Barrier Pst Assembly. Be sure t pst signs warning f the barrier peratin. PAGE 5 OF 23
If this unit is placed in a main traffic area, place traffic safety cnes and make every attempt t divert r stp traffic befre maintenance is started. D nt put any bjects int penings and keep all bstructins clear f the vicinity f the barrier D nt perate this equipment when yu are distracted r under the influence f drugs, alchl r medicatin causing diminished cntrl. Prir t accessing the RSS-2000 cver plates, all electrical cnnectins t the barrier will be islated (discnnected). Use special care when remving any inspectin plates as these plates are very heavy. Never perate this equipment when a vehicle, persn r any bstructin is in the way f full peratin f the RSS-2000. 1.5 Operatr Respnsibilities The wner/user f the RSS-2000 shuld be aware that they must: Nt perate the vehicle barrier withut receiving prir certificatin training, including reading this Operatr Manual. Fllw all safety rules, warnings and cautin statements utlined in this Operatr Manual. Retain a cpy f this Operatr Manual with the vehicle barrier cntrls. Prminently display warning signs n bth sides f the vehicle barrier. Always be certain that the barrier area is clear f vehicles befre peratin. Discntinue use if the vehicle barrier fails t perate prperly. Cntact a trained barrier maintenance technician t maintain and repair the barrier. 2 SPECIFICATIONS 2.1 General Specificatins All barriers cnsist f a shallw steel vault assembly that is ht dip galvanized with a diamnd plate anti-skid tp surface and a remvable pst assembly. The remvable pst assembly height is 35 t 36 inches at deplyment. Certified by the Department f State K-12 with zer penetratin (K-12-50 MPH all @ 15,000 lbs) K-12 certificatin equates t 1,250,000 lbs f energy absrptin.
