Forward Plate Compactors The PCLX, PCX, and PCEL, Compactors. These use the same principle of vibration system. The engine variants are Honda, Robin, Hatz.

Bump Stop Vibrator oil check plug Anti Vibration mountings.
PCLX This uses same engine as PCEL But has different base plate (cast)
Anti Vibration mounts
Belt tension Belt tension is important to ensure correct operation. The adjustment method is the same on the PCEL and PCLX range.
PCEL MACHINE Remove bolts to access drive belt
Unscrew engine fixing bolts and slide engine back.
A good guide to correct tension Turn belt through 90 deg.
All the forward plates use a centrifugal clutch The principle is the same only the hole centres are different, due to different engines being used.
Remove circlip from centre of clutch
Clutch with centre removed, showing springs and shoes. Back of clutch.
Filler and level plug for oil in excitor unit.
Vibrator output shaft has breather hole as shown below. Breather
Controls GX120 Choke Fuel tap
Oil filler and check plug. Switch. Oil alert sensor.
Engine oil drain plug.
If belt should require adjustment, First remove belt guard.
The engine is secured to the bedplate by 4 x bolts. The bolts need to be slackened off and then the engine can be moved back thus tensioning the belt. Do not over tighten.
This is the tension bolt which is used to pull back the engine level. This then prevents mis-alignment of belt with pulleys.
This shows bump stop which is fitted to prevent excess movement during operator function.
Air filter Remove cover. Remove air filter.
Carburettor Removal Remove air filter, then the two nuts holding the casing. Remove the 10mm bolt.
Now carefully remove carburettor. Fuel pipe. Removing rod and spring at same time as shown, and fuel pipe.
Trouble Shooting Problem Unit will not vibrate. Engine speed too slow. speed. Drive belt tension loose. Air filter blocked. Vibrator Failure. Solution Set engine Adjust tension. Renew filter. Check vibrator Bearings.
Low travel speed. Plate sinking This is generally down to, Material layer thickness, too high. Moisture content too high.
If machine is not running correctly then the most common cause related to fuel is contamination, With carburettor now removed here are a few basic points to check regarding cleaning. There is a more in depth presentation on carburettor cleaning.
With carburettor now off the machine, Remove 10mm bolt. and bowl.
Remove the pin holding the float on. and remove float.
Main jet is located as shown in housing. With suitable screwdriver remove the jet.
Remove cap, At this stage any sediment or dirt can be removed.
This shows float with needle valve. Ensure spring is in correct position and that valve head is not damaged.
Now refit all the parts and ensure that the fuel bowl is fitted as shown,
Throttle stop screw. This for minor speed adjustments.
Also shown here is the pilot jet. To access the jet, first unscrew throttle stop screw.
The pilot jet is a plastic type, Carefully lever out with screwdriver as shown, The jet is held in with an O ring at the bottom.
This is the pilot jet removed, Note the O ring O ring sits in this groove normally.
PCLX and PCX Excitor unit The excitor unit is constructed of a casing, a vibrator weight which runs in two bearings, The weight runs in oil and the unit is sealed with oil seal and gaskets.
This is excitor unit as used in PCLX and PCX range of compactor plates. Important to note that cast base plates use different excitor than fabricated plates. Internal (Weight)
To dismantle the unit First remove the end covers from each end of the unit.
Tap out the weight from pulley side, note bearing still on shaft at opposite end.
Remove shaft with care, note bearing still attatched.
Now drift out carefully remaining bearing.
The use of a press is useful to help with the fitting of new bearing to shaft.
Fit shaft and bearings into housing as shown. Tap in gently with nylon hammer.
Shaft now positioned for fitting of other bearing.
Once shaft and bearings are fully home, fit end cap with cork gasket as shown.
Now fit end cap with new seal in to opposite end of vibrator assembly.
FILL WITH OIL TO COMPLETE ASSEMBLY VIBRATOR OIL ( EXCITOR UNIT ). MINERAL OIL TYPE SPECIFICATION TOTAL PRESLIA 32 GRADE. CAPACITY 0.22 LT OR EQUIVILANT.
The Excitor weight used is different in the vibrator unit in relation to machines. To identify the correct weight a dot marking system is used.
PCX 400 PCX 450 PCX 500 DELTA PLATE No Dots PCLX 320 FAB BASE PCLX400 FAB BASE 2 x Dots
PCLX 320 CAST BASE 3 x Dots PCEL 320 4 x Dots This is important as incorrect weights will affect performance of compactor plate.
Option PCX With water kit
Spray bar with protection cover as fitted to PCX machines,
And finally Belle products are manufactured to the highest standards. Please ensure that operators understand the machines and capabilities. If in doubt please consult the operators manual. Regular maintenance will always sustain optimum performance and reliability. This now completes the PC plate presentation.
