NIP and CPN National Innovation Programme for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP) and the Clean Power Net Lighthouse Project (CPN) ETNO Core Energy Task Force Meeting 2015 Berlin, 6.11.2015 Wolfgang Axthammer Managing Director and Programme Manager Special Markets, NOW GmbH, (National Organisation for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology) Berlin 06.11.2015

NOW GmbH National Organisation for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology 100%-owned by the Federal Government ; founded in 2008 Supervisory Board: BMVI (Chair), BMWi, BMBF, BMUB Federal Ministries of Transport & Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), Economy & Technology (BMWi), Education & Research (BMBF) and Environment, Nature Conservation, Building & Nuclear Safety (BMUB) Advisory Board: strategic support and programme development NOW Programme Management / International Cooperation / Communication NIP Hydrogen + fuel cells Lighthouse Projects BMVI Electric Mobility Mobility with battery technologies Model Regions Both programmes deal with market development 06.11.2015 Wolfgang Axthammer, Managing Director

NIP National Innovation Programme for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Developing the Market for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Priority funding areas: 200 m for R&D BMWi, NOW, PtJ-Jülich 500 m for testing BMVI, NOW, PtJ-Berlin 700 m contribution from industry Total budget 1.4 bn 10-year programme Running until end of 2016 The NIP is supported by: NIP is a strategic alliance between politics, industry and science. 06.11.2015 Wolfgang Axthammer, Managing Director

"Programme" aimed at providing secure power supplies for the digital society Strategy paper Package of measures 2016-2025 ( 1.7 bn in funding) Funding guideline Government programme 2016 2017 2018 2020 20xx approx. 180 mil. X mil. Secure power supplies: Research & Development funding ( 58 mil.) Secure power supplies: Market activation ( 40 mil. / 2016-2020) - uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and stand-alone fuel cell systems for critical infrastructures - major demonstration projects serving as models 06.11.2015 Wolfgang Axthammer, Managing Director

NIP lighthouse projects Developing the Market through Cooperation and Networking Operation of fuel cell-powered vehicle fleets (buses and cars) and construction of 50 hydrogen refuelling points for vehicles in Germany by 2015 Over 500 fuel-cell heating appliances installed in the domestic energy sector Testing fuel cell systems to supply power onboard ships Secure and non-grid-connected power supply systems (approx. 300 sites established) Lighthouse projects play a mayor role in the further development of hydrogen and fuel cell technology. They have gained widespread acceptance and attracted attention. 06.11.2015 Wolfgang Axthammer, Managing Director 5

The Lighthouse project Clean Power Net ( CPN) 2015 ETNO Core Energy Task Force Meeting Berlin, 6.11.2015 Dr. Henrik Colell, Speaker Clean Power Net CEO Heliocentris Energy Solutions AG Wolfgang Axthammer, Projektmanager Clean Power Net Managing Director and Programme Manager Special Markets NOW GmbH Nationale Organisation Wasserstoffund Brennstoffzellentechnologie

CLEAN POWER NET (CPN) NOW initiates and organises lighthouse projects within the NIP, e.g. Clean Power Net Pooling resources & skills Extending visibility / publicity Motivation and aims of cooperation in Clean Power Net Cooperation manufacturers & users Economies of scale / cost reduction Customer acceptance of technology Improving marketability (national and global)

Germany's BOS digital public safety communications network includes 4,500 base stations The field test is also an important reference project for German exports of TETRA** network solutions incorporating fuel cells. * public safety agencies and organisations ** terrestrial trunked radio

Reference project: Brandenburg Digital Public Safety Communications (BOS). Why use fuel cells rather than a diesel-powered emergency power system? Requirement Hydrogen fuel cell Diesel-powered system 72-hour autonomous operating time Continuous refuelability Special case Scalability of power 3-10 kw can be ensured with an appropriate number of hydrogen cylinders The H2 cylinders can be exchanged or refilled during operation Appropriate arrangements are necessary and possible in the event of disaster situations Durch modular cascading sehr gut auf the required power abstimmbar. High efficiency ratio at partial and full load (> 50%). can be ensured with an appropriate sized tank The diesel tank can be refilled during operation Appropriate arrangements are necessary and possible in the event of disaster situations Usually overdimensioned Consequently: bad effiency (<15%) because of the partial load 230 / 400 V AC Using integrated DC/AC converter Using integrated synchronous generators Operation security Integrated outdoor cabinet available bis RC4 RC only possible with container High availability Adaptability to sitespecific situations Intrinsic: In standby mode a FC hardly ages and hydrogen do not age. System is simple and therefore unsusceptible, low-maintenance. Modular plant design allows a high range of configurations and an easy transport. Diesel engine and fuel wear in standby mode. High availability only through increased maintenance costs and monthly load tests. Dieselgenerator ist ein großer schwerer Block, daher aufwändig transportierbar und wenig anpassungsfähig. Noise emissions 63 db(a) bei 1 m Abstand > 80 db(a) bei 7 m Abstand Quelle: Heliocentris

Customers can choose between different configurations and power ratings Gas cylinder store integrated in FC housing Gas cylinder store separate from FC housing Existing installation in RC4 Standard Recommended where RC standard is required and/or access is difficult. Very suitable for compact storage of individual cylinders. Cabinets can be mounted side by side. Recommended for installations with larger hydrogen capacity as bundles of cylinders can be accommodated more economically and compactly. Source: Heliocentris
