Installation and Operation Manual
Introduction This instruction manual contains important information regarding the installation, operation, maintenance and storage for Southern Valve SVDA and SVSR Series rack and pinion pneumatic actuator. Southern Valve pneumatic actuators are compact, high cycle and high quality pneumatic double rack and pinion actuator specifically designed to meet the needs of the quarter turn automation market. Southern Valve actuators provide a wide range of torque outputs to suit quarter turn ball, butterfly, plug and damper valves. Warning Actuators must be isolated both pneumatically and electrically before any disassembly is undertaken. Before embarking on any maintenance on the actuator consult the relevant sections of this manual. Isolate all air lines and vent pressure from the actuator before disassembly. Do not operate the actuator using inflammable, oxidising, corrosive, explosive and unstable gases or liquids. It is important that the actuator should only be used within the pressure limits as detailed in this document. Operating the actuator outside these limits will damage internal parts. Unless otherwise stated, the maximum pressure is BAR (0psi). The operating temperature is -0oC... +0oC. Operating over temperature will damage the actuator. Operating the actuator in corrosive environments without protection will result in excessive damage to the actuators external and internal components. Do not disassemble the individual spring cartridges. This may result in personal injury. Operating the actuator outside these specifications will invalidate warranty.
Range Overview. Indicator Position indicator with NAMUR is convenient for mounting accessories such as limit switch box, positioners and so on.. Pinion The pinion is high-precision and integrative made from nickelled-alloy steel, full conform to the latest standards of ISO, DIN333, NAMUR. Options include custom dimensions and different materials. 3. Actuator Body Body is treated and hard anodized extruded alloy to ASTM 00. Options include PTF or Nickel plated for aggressive environments.. nd Caps Die-cast aluminium polyester powder coated. Options include PTF or Nickel plated for aggressive environments.. Pistons The twin rack pistons are made from die-cast aluminium. Symmetric mounting position gives long cycle life and fast operation. Botton mounting connection ISO / DIN 333. Travel Adjustment The two independent external travel stop adjustment bolts can adjust ± at both opening and closing positions easily and precisely.. High Performance Springs Pre-loaded springs are made from the highest quality material for resistant to corrosion and promote longer cycle life. Springs can be dismounted safely and conveniently to tune torque requirements.. Bearings & Guides Made from low friction, long-life compound materials to minimise wear. The maintenance and replacement is easy and convenient.. O-rings NBR rubber O-rings provide trouble-free operation at standard temperature ranges. Options are available for high temperatures. 3

Assembly Assembly of Valve Make sure that both valve and actuator are closed. Before proceeding ensure the actuator operates in the desired direction of rotation and that valve/actuator are correctly aligned. When using a spring return actuator for fail safe operation, ensure that when air/electricity failure occurs, the direction of travel is correct for your application. Assembly of Accessories
Assembly For direct mount compatible valves a square drive reducer may be required. The actuator and valve are bolted together through the ISO pad.
