BJ - 1 th generation 20 series - 2 nd generation 40 series - 3 rd generation 55 series - 4 th generation All new Land Cruiser V8: eighth generation 60 series - 5 th generation 80 series - 6 th generation 100 series - 7 th generation A legendary Icon Almost 60 years of engineering excellence have made the Land Cruiser an icon in the worldwide SUV market, thanks to its legendary quality, durability and reliability. By the end of 2006, more than 5 million customers had bought a Land Cruiser since its launch in Japan in 1951. In 2006, 271 000 Land Cruisers were sold around the world; 83 000 of these were of the station wagon body type, like the all-new Land Cruiser V8. The Land Cruiser product range is currently sold in more than 140 territories and produced in nine plants in five countries. The Land Cruiser V8 is the eighth generation of the station wagon body type. The Land Cruiser s reputation is built on its ability to perform in extremely severe environments such as desert-like terrain, jungles and other places where no other vehicle can go. With Land Cruiser, Toyota has won 9 out of the last 10 Paris-Dakar rallies in the production model category. 06 07

Design
Modernised design Created at Toyota design centre in Aichi, Japan and guided by the Vibrant Clarity design philosophy, the new Land Cruiser has an advanced and rugged exterior design. It stays true to the model s heritage while also presenting a modernised image. The interior design expresses the Land Cruiser V8 s refinement and premium status, while still conveying a sense of ruggedness and reliability. The new Land Cruiser V8 is slightly longer, taller and wider than the outgoing generation which gives it a more dynamic stance. Available in 5- or 7-seat versions, the Land Cruiser V8 offers greater versatility thanks to the improved seat folding capability. 12 13
Driving dynamics
Enhanced all-round driving dynamics Toyota has created a premium four-wheel drive car with refinement and comfort, without any sacrifice of its long-standing, authentic off-road performance. As a result, the new Land Cruiser V8 can truly claim to be the most capable four-wheel drive vehicle ever - and one of the most technically advanced, too. At the heart of the four-wheel drive system is a newly developed Torsen torque-sensing limited slip centre differential which gives smoother cornering performance and improved driving stability. In the straight-ahead, dry-road mode, the torque distribution is 40/60 front to rear. However torque can be biased to the front wheels to a maximum of 50% or to the rear wheels to 70%. World-first Crawl Control feature, standard on petrol engine models only, gives the driver maximum control and confidence when driving on surfaces that require delicate speed adjustments such as rocks or steep hills. The driver only needs to focus on steering, the engine and brakes being automatically controlled. Enhanced all-round driving dynamics Depending on local market condition, the Land Cruiser V8 is available with two types of active suspension systems: - The European-first Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) - The world-first four-wheel Active Height Control & Adaptive Variable Suspension (4W AHC & AVS). KDSS automatically adjusts front and rear anti-roll stabiliser bar function characteristics depending on the type of road being driven. Active stabilising is in permanent use for on-road driving, whilst the system automatically disables the two stabiliser bars as soon as it comes to a demanding off-road driving situation. This system ensures excellent traction control and riding comfort, good stability and excellent off-road performance. 4W AHC & AVS links all four wheels suspension system for the first time, and also provides an all-new system of spring rate control. This makes it the most sophisticated suspension system available in any SUV. The result is optimum off-road performance and exceptional on-road refinement, comfort, pitch and body roll control. Power
Powerful V8 engines The new Land Cruiser V8 is now available with a choice of two of the most powerful engines ever developed by Toyota. They have been developed to enhance the overall performance under all road conditions with high power output, a broad controllable torque band and low fuel consumption for its class. At the heart of the new Toyota Land Cruiser V8 engine range in Europe will be the brand new 4.5-litre V8 D-4D diesel engine. This remarkable new powerplant offers exceptional performance with 286 hp and 650 Nm of torque. These figures represent a 40% increase in power and a 50% increase in torque output over the engine it replaces. This engine is mated to a brand new six-speed automatic transmission with a sequential manual gear selection. The latest development of the 4.7-litre V8 petrol engine for the new Land Cruiser V8 offers a refined and sporty driving experience. It has been improved with the addition of the Variable Valve Timing with intelligence technology (VVT-i) to achieve increased power and enhanced fuel efficiency. It now develops 288 hp and 445 Nm, representing an increase of 21% in power and 3% in torque. This engine is mated to the improved 5-speed automatic transmission with a sequential manual gear selection. 4.5 D-4D V8 Six-speed automatic transmission 22 23
Quality and durability
Legendary Quality, Durability and Reliability While other manufacturers have moved towards a monocoque design, Toyota has not compromised on the fundamental body-on-frame design construction for the new Land Cruiser V8 in order to retain its go-anywhere capability. An all-new high strength, high-rigidity frame has been designed to accommodate the body of the new Land Cruiser V8. The new frame s torsional rigidity is 1.4 times stronger and its flexural rigidity is 1.2 times stronger than the outgoing model. The new Toyota Land Cruiser V8 is designed with many active and passive safety features to offer maximum protection for occupants should a collision occur. A new multi-terrain ABS system incorporates a new control logic (the first in the world) that recognises any road surface being driven and automatically switches to the optimum braking control for the given road conditions. Up to 14 SRS airbags are available on the new Land Cruiser V8, with both driver and front seat passenger having knee airbag protection for the first time.
