T-SB-0170-09 June 4, Page 9 of 13 Repair Procedure 1. Test drive vehicle and confirm condition. 2. Check the transmission for evidence of fluid leakage. 3. Check the transmission fluid level. While checking, collect a very small amount of ATF in a clean container when fluid overflows. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model and model year Repair Manual: 2008 Sequoia: Transmission/Transaxle: Automatic Transmission Fluid: Adjustment Sequoia: Transmission/Transaxle: Automatic Transmission Fluid: Adjustment 2007 Tundra: Transmission: Automatic Transmission Fluid: Adjustment 2008 Tundra: Transmission: Automatic Transmission Fluid: Adjustment Tundra: Transmission: Automatic Transmission Fluid: Adjustment Incorrectly adjusted fluid level can cause transmission shifting issues, including no vehicle movement, slipping, and/or M.I.L. ON conditions. Is the transmission fluid level correct? YES Go to step 4. NO Adjust transmission fluid level to correct level then test drive vehicle to confirm if condition is eliminated. If condition is eliminated, return vehicle to customer. If condition is NOT eliminated, go to step 4.

T-SB-0170-09 June 4, Page 10 of 13 Repair Procedure (Continued) 4. Examine the small sample of transmission fluid collected during fluid level check. Does the transmission fluid smell burnt or have gritty black particles? It is normal for WS transmission fluid to change from a clear red color when new to an opaque brown color with use. YES Go to step 5. NO This TSB does NOT apply. Follow diagnostics for automatic transmission in applicable Repair Manual. 5. Replace the transmission.
