MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION There are many different materials that can be used in the design of a Wey High Performance Knife Gate Valve. A typical Wey Knife Gate Valve will use several different materials within its construction to achieve the best combination of functionality and cost. The following briefly shows the most common materials that Wey uses for the critical valve parts in their design of an effective high performance knife gate valve. Body Material Gate Material 316 Stainless Steel 317 Stainless Steel A890 Grade 4A (Super Duplex) A995 Grade 5A (Super Duplex) 904L Stainless Steel Hasteloy C Avesta 254 SMO Avesta 654 SMO Titanium A216 WCB Carbon Steel Cast Iron Cast Ni-Resist Ductile Iron Ductile Ni-Resist 316 Stainless Steel 317 Stainless Steel 904L Stainless Steel 17.4PH Stainless Steel Avesta SMO (AL6XN is plate stock for gates) Hasteloy C Titanium Seal Material Buna N Viton TFE EPDM Aflas Hypalon Polyurethane White Buna N Food Grade EPDM ETFE FEP White Food Grade Viton Chemraz Kalrez Coating and Overlay Option ECOAT ECOAT is a proprietary non-stick coating used on valve body and gate. The friction free coating is used on many applications to prevent buildup of media on valve internal parts. The inherent lubricity of this coating also helps to reduce operating forces of the actuator. ESC Coating After applying the ESC coating the surface of any steel or alloy part converts into an extremely hard (RCH 72), corrosion resistant, and self-lubricating platform, with excellent durability in both lubricated and un-lubricated contact. HVAF Coating HVAF or High Velocity Air-Fuel is a thermal spray process for deposition of coatings for protection of parts, vessels and structures against abrasion, erosion and corrosion. Application to gate leading edge and face allows for prolonged service life in severely abrasive conditions. A variety of coating options are available. Chromium Carbide and Tungsten Carbide (86WC- 10Co-4Cr) are primary coatings used industry wide. Overlay Options The overlay options in the bore area provide extended service life by means of adding additional protection in the up- and downstream side of the seat area. Primarely used in highly abbrasive applications. In addtion the overlay option can be used to match your pipe I.D. to create a smooth, laminar flow. Options: Chrome Carbide Tungston Carbide Polyurethane
ACTUATOR OPTIONS Wey Valve offers an excellent selection of manual, pneumatic, hydraulic or electirc operators to suit your specific needs. The Wey topworks design provides a stable foundation for any style of actuators. Due to the innovative and customizable design of all Wey Knife Gate Valves, it is possible to change the style of actuator even if the valve has already been in service. Manual Operators Electric Motor Besides a regular handwheel Wey can supply you with fully enclosed, permanently lubricated heavy duty bevel gear operators provide high torque and smooth operation. Used to reduce rim pull in larger sizes requiring excessive force or to reposition hand wheel to desired direction. Electric multi-turn actuators available in voltages from 120 to 600 VAC. Motors supplied in many configurations including integrated or remote controls, NEMA 7 explosion proof construction, heaters, position indicators, declutch and manual overrides. Pneumatic Cylinders Hydraulic Cylinders Pneumatically operated cylinders available in double acting or spring return type design. Bore sizes available up to 36 tandem DA units. Working pressures available up to 300 psi. Spring return available as fail close (preloaded spring with enough force to close the gate upon air loss) or fail open, (spring which drives the valve open upon air loss). Heavy duty hydraulic cylinders up to 3,000 psi hydraulic working pressures. Double acting cylinder available in bore sizes from 1.50 to 16. Cylinders can be operated by existing hydraulic lines or portable power units. Very useful in remote applications such as tailings lines.
ACCESSORIES & OTHER OPTIONS Wey offercs customizable options and accessories that can enhance the valve performance in specific applications. Thanks to our customizable design we can help our customers with our tailor-made solutions to increase profit through increased productivity and less process down-time. Bore & Body Options Wear Ring The Wear Ring is fitted into machined recess on the inlet side of the valve to stop abrasive media from eroding the body. Depending on the wear ring materilal, this option can drastically extend the life time of your valve. Wear Ring Options: Ni-hard Tool Steel Ceramic Pipe I.D. Lining: Chrome Carbide Tungston Carbide Polyurethane Gate Chrome Carbide Overlay Chrome Carbide or Urethane Liner HVAF Body Hardened Wear Ring HVAF Elastomer Seat (mechanically retained) V-Port The V-Port option is used in throttling or modulating services, usually in combination with a positioner. Powder Pac The Powder Pack provides smooth powder flow without jamming. Any solids in gate guide area are pushed ahead of the gate. Solids drop out of groove area through slots that are machined in lower gate guides.
Chest Liner Delrin or TFE liner within chest provides smooth surface for gate to slide on during cycling. Reduces tolerance between gate and body thus preventing solids from entering the chest area. Liner is mechanically retained and replaceable. Often used in concert with gate guides for high cycle applications. Gate Guides Mechanically retained guides in Bronze, TFE or Delrin along gate sliding area. Used in applications of high cycling. Other Accessories Lockout There are two types of lockouts available. The rotary lockout for hand wheel operated valves uses a crab claw style multi-position lockout whereas the hardened hitch pin style lockout is used to safely lock out valve in open or closed position. Position Indicator This is a highly visible scale enabling users to determine position of the valve from a distance. Weyone Clevis The high visibility coating on the clevis is for ease of position recognition. Due to its capability of absorbing day light, the Weyone Coating will glow during the dark. OSHA Yoke Guard Serrated steel cover placed around four post top works to protect operator from valve moving parts. Controls Solinoid Proximity Switches Mechanical Limit Switches Pneumatic positioner Electronic positioner
