TRIDENT TRIAL SEALS THE DEAL. FOR MANAGING DIRECTOR GREG HAYLOCK AND HIS BROTHERS PETER AND DAVID, FAMILY FUELS THE EMERALD CARRYING COMPANY. Founded by their parents Bill and Joan back in 1965, the brothers have gone on to grow the team to a 250-strong staff, and 90 truck fleet since they won their first fuel tender with Ampol back in 1994. Emerald now hauls fuel across the state on everything from single trailers, to B-doubles and road trains. One thing I like about the Macks is their fuel economy. - Greg Haylock, Managing Director Emerald Carrying Company For Greg, the Mack-affair started with a search for something more reliable after experiencing engine troubles with some of his American trucks. We already had some Volvos, says Greg, and I knew that a lot of the Volvo technology was in the Macks now, so we trialed a Trident. It went really well so we bought a few more. And if anyone knows the importance of fuelefficiency to drive a business forward, it s Greg and his team. So when it came to finding the best model for his business, his own fuel economy was also key. TRIDENT TRIAL SEALS THE DEAL. Continued. The trucks have some long distances to cover, Greg says. We do everything from the local service station in Longreach to the mines at Mt Isa. We re typically running 65-tonne B-doubles and road trains up to 135 tonnes depending on the destination. One thing I like about the Macks is their fuel economy they re doing pretty well. The Macks have also proven to be a hit in the driver s seat too, especially models with the, mdrive automated manual transmission. I was interested in the mdrive because I ve got a few Volvos with I-Shift, says Greg, and it s great. The drivers love the Macks because they re smooth and quiet, one of them said to me the other day he reckoned the Trident was the best truck he d ever driven. Greg recently added a Super-Liner to his fleet to do triple road trains hauling fuel out of Townsville. We ve had Macks on and off since we started, says Greg, and if these new models are anything to go by, they definitely won t be the last Macks we buy.
