When to use a Dual Battery System A dual battery system (DBS) is recommended when needing to run powerful accessories, such as an inverter, fridge or a tail gate loader on a truck, while the vehicle s engine is turned off. A DBS allows accessories to run from an auxiliary battery that is independent of the starting battery, but is charged while the engine is running. A DBS ensures there is always enough power in the starting battery to start the vehicle. The auxiliary battery can be a different size and type to the main battery. Selecting the right dual battery system Each DBS has its own unique features: SOLENOID 12V only Suits all vehicle types Connects both batteries when the ignition is turned on Cost effective ELECTRONIC 12V only Suits all vehicle types Priority charges starting battery before connecting auxiliary battery Manual override for an emergency jumpstart DIODE 12V or 24V Suits vehicles with an externally sensed alternator Independently charges each battery as soon as the engine starts Complete isolation between starting and auxiliary battery This guide will help you select the most suitable dual battery system for your vehicle: 4WD Auxiliary battery, Fridge batteries, Power packs HEAVY VEHICLES Tailgate loaders, Cranes, Tow trucks EMERGENCY Ambulance, Police, Fire, Roadside service vehicles MARINE Yacht, Power boat, Fishing boat, Houseboat, Motor homes SOLENOID ELECTRONIC DIODE 50
SOLENOID S DBS085K 12V 85 AMP SOLENOID DUAL BATTERY SYSTEM 24 42 24 63 62 Heavy Duty Solenoid A heavy duty, 85A solenoid made with a plated steel housing with 5 /16 copper contact terminals provides the main control. It parallels the two batteries when the ignition is turned on and provides the essential isolation between the auxiliary and main battery when the ignition is off. Ignition Switch If the auxiliary battery is significantly larger than the starting battery, the auxiliary may flatten the starting when the ignition is turned on, not allowing the engine to start. The ignition switch allows the isolator to be turned off from within the cabin to allow the engine to be started before activating the solenoid. Surge Protection Provides surge protection for vehicles with electronic ignition systems. Suits all vehicles The solenoid isolator can be fitted to all 12V vehicle types. A cost effective dual battery system for any vehicle with an auxiliary battery. PART NO. ELECTRONIC S DBC100K & DBC150K 12V ELECTRONIC DUAL BATTERY SYSTEM Easy to Install A fully automatic dual battery controller suitable for any vehicle with an auxiliary battery. The electronic isolator does not require any changes to the vehicles existing wiring system. It can be fitted to all 12V vehicle types. Priority Charging for Starting Battery Ensures that the main battery is fully charged before connecting the auxiliary battery in parallel with the main. Manual Override If the starting battery goes flat and the auxiliary battery is charged, the electronic isolator allows the batteries to be manually paralleled to jump start the vehicle. Over Current Protection Features built in over current protection that protects the isolator. Over current is most likely to occur if there is a short circuit in the wiring. Surge Protection Provides surge protection for vehicles with electronic ignition systems. 110 43 100 Kit comprises PART NO. DIODE S DBD070 12/24V 70 Amp Diode Isolator Preferred method for charging dual batteries on vehicles with externally sensed alternators Solid state and waterproof DBD120 12/24V 120 Amp Diode Isolator Preferred method for charging dual batteries on vehicles with externally sensed alternators Solid state and waterproof 101 20 63 114 165 20 63 114 Independent Charging Diode isolators independently charge both batteries when the engine starts. This allows large auxiliary batteries to be used with a smaller starting battery as they are not paralleled during charging. Therefore, a very flat, large auxiliary battery can not flatten the starting battery during charging. Solid State Diode isolators use solid state electronics and have no moving parts making them ultra reliable. As they don t use heavy duty switches, they don t produce voltage surges. Dual Voltage (12/24V) Diode isolators can be used on either 12V or 24V vehicles. Waterproof Diode isolators are completely waterproof making them ideal for marine environments. Suits Vehicles with Externally Sensed Alternators Common to all diode isolators is a voltage drop between the input and output terminals, it is 0.5V on the Projecta unit. This voltage drop means that the charging voltage on the battery will be 0.5V less than the voltage coming from the alternator, which results in batteries being undercharged. Vehicles with externally sensed alternators can connect the sensing wire directly to the battery. This makes the alternator produce an extra 0.5V on its output to compensate for the diode isolator.
