Unit Tutorials Step 1 Step 2 - Using the 5 squares, Make 2 Half Square Triangle (HST) units Directions for HST units on last page - Each HST unit is trimmed to a 4 1/2 square - Using the 3 squares, Make 4 Half Square Triangle (HST) units Directions for HST units on last page - Each HST unit is trimmed to a 2 1/2 square Step 3 - Using the 2 1/2 HST and 2 squares 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 sew this unit - Make 2 that measure 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 Step 4 - Using the 4 1/2 HST and the 2 1/2 Hst Units just made, sew them together Like the drawing. - Make 1 units that measure 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 (3)

Sewing the Units Directions NOTE- For other ways to make HST units, see my book Pat Sloan s Teach Me to Sew Triangles Step 1 Step 2 - Draw a line on the back of all the light squares - Layer the dark and light square - Sew a ¼ seam on both Sides of the drawn line Step 4 -Trim squares to correct size using a square ruler with a diagonal line placed on the Seam.
