Full Starters Style SO, -Pole Starter lass 86 / Refer to atalog 80T70 eneral Information S magnetic starters are used for full-voltage starting and stopping of squirrel cage motors. overload protection is provided via melting alloy type thermal overload relays. S starters are available in s 00 through 7, and are designed for operation at Vac, 0 to z. Solid State Overload Relay Protection ( Logic ) These ambient insensitive overload relays are available on s 00 through 6 and standard on size 7. They provide phase loss, phase unbalance protection. To order, add Form 0 (for selectable trip class or 0 protection). For more information about Logic, see pages 6-8 and 6-. dapted Bimetal ( s 00 ) The dapted Bimetal motor starter consists of a specially designed adapter that attaches with bus bars to the S contactor and holds the LRD or LRD (IE Style) bimetal overload relay. This starter configuration can be ordered by adding Form E (adapater only) to the standard catalog number. Once the FL of the motor has been determined, the LRD or LRD bimetal overload can be purchased separately and installed in the field at a later date. For more information see Table 6.6. TeSys T Management System ( s 6) TeSys T is a flexible system that integrates seamlessly into your automation system through five major communication protocols. TeSys T can predict what will happen in the process, as it accurately monitors current, voltage, and power over a wide range. For additional information about TeSys T Management System, see pages 6-84 to 6-88 and page 6-. -Pole Polyphase Vac Maximum0 z Note that prices shown do not include thermal units. Full Starters Style lass 86 / Refer to atalog 80T70 s SB SD With uxiliary Load Terminals It is sometimes desirable to use capacitors in motor branch circuits to improve power factor. The 0 SB SD starters listed below include three auxiliary terminals to allow easy connection of power factor correction capacitors. When capacitors are connected using these terminals, no adjustment to the selection of thermal units is necessary. The auxiliary terminals accept # 6 solid or stranded wire. & 4 starters have provisions for auxiliary connections. User must supply lugs as necessary. The S starters with auxiliary load terminals may also be used to control two motors simultaneously from a single starter. owever, this application is tightly restricted by Section - of the National Electrical ode. Refer to the NE for restrictions regarding overload protection, size of controller and motor branch circuit protection. The ultimate trip current of over-current (overload) relays or other motor protective devices shall not exceed the service-limit current ratings of the controller. c FLUORESENT LMP LODS00 VOLTS ND LESSThe characteristics of fluorescent lamps are such that it is not necessary to derate lass 80 contactors below their normal continuous current rating. lass 8 contactors may also be used with fluorescent lamp loads. For controlling tungsten and infrared lamp loads, and resistance heating loads, lass 8 lighting contactors are recommended. These contactors are specifically designed for such loads and are applied at their full rating as listed in the lass 8 Section. d apply to contactors which are employed to switch the load at the utilization voltage of the heat producing element with a duty which requires continuous operation of not more than five openings per minute. lass 8 s L and S lighting contactors are rated for resistance heating loads. e When discharged, a capacitor has essentially zero impedance. For repetitive switching by a contactor, sufficient impedance should be connected in series to limit inrush current to not more than 6 times the contactor rated continuous current. In many installations, the impedance of connecting conductors may be sufficient for this purpose. When switching to connect additional banks, the banks already on the line may be charged and can supply additional available short-circuit current which should be considered when selecting the impedance to limit the current. 7-/ 0 0 0 0 0 0 7 0 0 0 0 00 00 8 8 8 8 8 8 7 7 7 7 7 7 6 6 4 4 4 4 4 4 70 70 70 70 70 8 8 8 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 4 4 0 0 0 0 0 6. 6. 0 8..4 7 8 4 4 7 4 6 68 86 4 86.7 7 8 4 4 0.6..4.0..4 4. 6.. 4. 8..0 4. 8. 6 0 4 7 4 7 4 68 4 8.8. 4...6 4. 8..0 77 The ratings for capacitor switching above assume the following maximum available fault currents: 00 :,000 RMS Sym. 4 :,000 RMS Sym. 6: 8,000 RMS Sym. 7: 0,000 RMS Sym.
