2020 STRATEGIC PLAN OBJECTIVE 540 MILLION

TRANSPORT : THE PRIORITY TO REDUCE GHG EMISSIONS GHG in Québec province Transport is the only sector where emissions have grown significantly since 1990 in Québec + 29 %

STM S VISION TO REDUCE GHG EMISSIONS Modal shift CARS -> ACTIVE & PUBLIC TRANSPORT More services and better services Incentives measures (tolls, gas tax, parking tax, densification) Enhance STM s energetic performance Bus priority measures Initiatives to reduce fuel and energy consumption Electrification of the bus network

ELECTRIFICATION : A PRIORITY IN THE 2020 STRATEGIC PLAN 9

RECENT INITIATIVES : A SUCCESS STORY ECO DRIVING 5 % gain in fuel consumption BIODIESEL B5 5 % less GHG emissions Many measures taken to have greener buildings, depots and shops 20% less energy for heating since 2006 10

PERFORMANCES OPTIMISATION OF STM REGULAR BUSES The original hydraulic cooling fans have been replace by electric fans on more than 230 buses A new software has been deployed to better control the electronic transmissions of STM buses RESULTS 8 000 000$ of investment 31 % combined fuel economy More than 2,3M liters of biodiesel saved each year On the residual life time of the modified buses, More than 60M$ of economy More than 84 000 tons of GHG will be avoided 11

THE ELECTRIC BUS Electric drive for buses is not new The real challenge is in stocking enough energy to achieved the same performances has the regular biodiesel buses now widely in use 12

THE ELECTRIC BUS ENERGY SOURCES : BIODIESEL GENERATOR It s the hybrid bus Performances and range equal to the regular bus Available right now 13

THE ELECTRIC BUS ENERGY SOURCES : ACCUMULATORS Today, for a 12m bus to reach the same range and performance of a regular biodiesel bus, it needs 6000 kg of accumulators 14

DEMONSTRATION PROJECT WITH STO OBJECTIVE : To test a 100% electric bus slowcharge (overnight recharge) in service in our conditions and to evaluate its performance BYD electric bus Announced autonomy : 250 km 4000 kg of batteries Experimentation in 2013 Summer-Fall : STO Fall-Winter : STM

16

THE ELECTRIC BUS ENERGY SOURCES : ACCUMULATORS WITH IN-LINE FAST CHARGE 12m buses could be used To have a fast charge, you need a lot of power 17

DEMONSTRATION PROJECT OF IN LINE FAST CHARGE PROJECT : To test the technologies in the Montreal real operating conditions. 18

THE ELECTRIC BUS ENERGY SOURCES : OVERHEAD WIRES It s the trolleybus No limit in operating range Modern vehicles 0 emission No size limitations 19

20

RETURN OF THE TRAMWAYS Objectives To fill the gap between the metro and the bus network in term of capacity. Urban revitalisation and economical growth of the boroughs 21 Details 26 trams 100% of wheel motorisation fully electric New tram depot 32 stations 13,2 km of lines 1 B$ estimated cost * A City of Montréal project; STM is accompanying

ELECTRIFICATION PLAN AT A GLANCE Diésel-hybride Électrique HYBRID ELECTRIC RECHARGEABLE ELECTRIC WITH WIRES OTHER VEHICULES Achat bus hybrides 12m 12m Achat midibus électrique Implantation trolleybus Essai articulé hybride Essai électrique à recharge lente Implantation tramway Projet de démo recharge rapide

Tonnes de GES GHG EMISSIONS PROJECTION OF THE BUS NETWORK 160 000 120 000 Considering that STM will increase its bus service by 32% and will add 600 bus to its fleet between 2010 and 2020 80 000 40 000 0 2010 2015 2020 2025 2030 2035 2040
