< 60 ms breaking time is required This is not a proven concept Design Doubts/Risks: DC Link short circuit can cause extensive damage since 7 units of power inverters (with high energy stored in the dc capacitors) are connected to the common dc bus. It is unlikely that such a configuration will withstand a dc fault without destructive damage. Risk of voltage and power oscillation on the common dc link because of large dimensions and longer length of dc link. The series connection of transformers at primary side is sensitive to unsymmetric cuurent distribution. Saturation effects Slides: 9
SINAMICS SM150 Higher power rating per basic unit SINAMICS SM150: Competitor: Short time overload power: 12.5 MVA Reason: Our ROTOS control technique allows a higher power utilization of the IGCT elements. Consequences: Higher reliability and smaller size in the range 12.5 MVA and 35 MVA overload power. Short time overload power: 11 MVA (same IGCT) Reason: The TDC operates with a higher switching frequency and results in higher semiconductor losses. Consequences: Lower reliability and larger size in the range 11 MVA and 31 MVA overload power.
