Cadex C8000 Advanced programmable battery testing system The Cadex C8000 battery testing system is equipped with digital drivers to handle batteries from 50mAh to 100Ah. Put performance in your hands with cell monitoring, safety circuit checks and SMBus battery testing. Capture load signatures from power tools, laptops, etc. and use the simulated loads to check battery runtime. Add accessories such as thermal chambers and external load banks and you begin to realize that the Cadex C8000 stands in a class by itself.
By all imagination, the Cadex C8000 may well be the most complete battery testing system available An instrument that tests virtually any power source One of the most enduring qualities of the Cadex C8000 is its flexibility and ease of use. The system offers a broad testing range and can service non-battery power sources such as fuel cells and solar cells. Voltage range 1.2V to 36V Current up to 10A charge & discharge Tests batteries from 50mAh to 50Ah I/O Ports provide independent service Each of the 4 channels features a Battery Port and I/O Port that can individually be programmed. Floating analog inputs allow cell monitoring. The system includes: 4-wire battery test cables 4 differential analog voltage inputs 4 input/output control for switching SMBus, clock, data for smart packs 2 general purpose analog inputs The C8000 as part of a laboratory system Optional accessories transform the C8000 into a powerful laboratory system, enabling fully automated testing. Each channel can form its own test bed to control: Thermal chambers External chargers Digital load banks Heating elements Pressure gauges Cell monitoring Safety circuits Alarms
Unique features make the Cadex C8000 exclusive The Cadex C8000 offers many powerful features that go beyond testing of batteries. The system set-up is simple and intuitive; it requires minimal training by the technical staff. Load signature acquisition Charger Function Test Battery Safety Circuit Test The C8000 captures and stores load signatures. Checks battery runtime by using the simulated load as discharge protocol. (1Q08) The C8000 tests battery chargers by substituting the battery with a programmable current/voltage source. Verifies function and correct charge termination. (1Q08) The C8000 identifies high and low battery cut-off points by raising and lowering a simulated voltage. Checks safety circuits of lithiumion and intrinsically safe batteries. Lifecycle test Counts the number of charge/discharge cycles before the battery capacity drops to the preset target level. Plots capacity curve. Smart Battery testing The Cadex C8000 services SMBus batteries by reading and displaying the register settings of the digital circuit. Supports most smart batteries Reads flags to check correct function Assists in the design of smart batteries Test batteries in 30 seconds The QuickSort program identifies cellular batteries as: Good, can be returned to customer Low, suspect pack; needs further testing Poor, faulty pack; remove from service QuickSort is based on the electrochemical dynamic response of the battery, a method that is superior to resistance readings. Like a mechanical arm, a good battery is solid and produces little lag. A weak battery, on the other hand, appears soft and bends to the applied force. QuickSort establishes its test results on the resiliency of the battery. (1Q08)
Load test The Cadex C8000 allows testing batteries under GSM, TDMA, CDMA or other discharge protocols; programmable in 50µs; minimum setting is 500µs. Simulated discharge enables quick and convenient performance check to verify runtime and cycle life of various battery types. Battery interface made easy for big and small packs The batteries connect to the Power Ports by designated cables. For small batteries, Cadex offers the Adapter Unit, a device that provides access to the SnapLock Battery Adapter system. Over 1000 Battery Adapters on hand Provides dependable battery interface Allows quick and easy battery change Enables sharing adapters with other Cadex systems Adapter Unit Cadex offers three SnapLock adapter styles: Custom Battery Adapters FlexArm Smart Cable The SnapLock adapters contain C-codes that configure the analyzer to the correct setting. Reprogramming and adding (up to 10) is possible. Specialty adapters available on request The FlexArm services less common batteries. The flexible arms reach the smallest contacts. Magnetic guides keep the battery in position and a temperature sensor monitors the battery. The gold contacts are replaceable. The Cadex Smart Cable services larger batteries that are placed outside the unit. The temperature sensor attaches to the battery by a magnet. Ideal for batteries with protruding terminals.
Service programs automate battery tests The service programs of the Cadex C8000 are divided into: Basic, Advanced, Rapid-Test, Custom and Manual. The Jump command allows advancing to the next cycle or repeating the previous function. The programs can be modified to include specialty test requirements. Basic Programs. Prepares, conditions and restores batteries automatically. Charge Applies fast charge; terminates charge when the battery is full; applies trickle charge (depending on battery chemistry) Auto Exercises batteries and applies Recondition if the user-set target capacity cannot be reached (nickel-based batteries). Prime Prepares new and stored batteries for field use by repeated cycling until the maximum capacity is reached. Advanced Programs. Provides automated testing for specialty requirement. Load Test Tests batteries under simulated GSM, TDMA, CDMA or other discharge protocols, programmable in 50µs steps; minimum setting 500µs. Runtime Allows three different discharge levels, programmable in hours and minutes. Simulates 5-5-90 and 10-10-80 (two-way radio) and other user patterns. Lifecycle Counts the number of charge/ discharge cycles a battery can endure before the capacity drops to the preset target level. Self-Discharge Determines the rate by which a battery loses charge when not in use. Discharge Only Discharges battery for storage and specialty test applications. Extended Prime Applies a 16-hour trickle charge prior to Prime. Prepares difficult to charge batteries. * A battery is an electro-chemical device and the reactance varies with frequency. Different test methods will provide varying readings. ** Scheduled for 3rd quarter 2008 Rapid-Test Programs. Checks battery performance without having to discharge. QuickSort ** Sorts lithium-ion packs into Good, Low and Poor. Adjustable target setting. Test time 30 second. QuickTest ** Measures battery stateof-health; uses reference matrix. (Matrix can be generated with the analyzer s Learn program.) Test time 3 minutes typical. OhmTest Measure battery resistance with DC pulses.
