Isopropyl alcohol Electrical tape INSTALLATION Customer Information: The information in this installation instruction is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely add equipment to your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by do-it-yourselfers. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the body paint finish. This rear wing spoiler should be installed only if the ambient air temperature is 60 F (15 C) or above. Wash and wax the area to be covered. Use a high-quality paste wax. Installing the Trunk Spoiler 1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio and navigation system (if equipped), then write down the radio station presets. 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. 3. On the inside of the rear hatch, place the left inner hatch template on the rear hatch near the rubber stopper. Using a center punch, mark the rear hatch through the hole in the template. Using the right inner hatch template, center punch the right side the same way. Align the bump in the tool to the bump on the panel. INSIDE OF THE REAR HATCH REAR HATCH RIGHT INNER HATCH TEMPLATE CENTER PUNCH 4. While wearing eye protection, first drill the hole with a 3 mm drill bit, then a 6 mm drill bit, and finish with an 8 mm drill bit. To prevent drilling through the hatch, wrap electrical tape around each drill bit 10 mm away from the tip. To prevent the metal shavings from falling onto the cargo area, place a cover on the cargo floor. Remove all burrs and metal shavings with a file, and apply touch-up paint to the edges of the holes you drilled. Repeat on the right side of the rear hatch. First drill with a 3 mm drill bit, then with a 6 mm drill bit, and finish with 8 mm drill bit. REAR HATCH ELETRICAL TAPE 10 mm 2011 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. All Rights Reserved. 5. Close the rear hatch. Place the left outer hatch template on the rear hatch, and tape it into position. Make a circle. LEFT OUTER HATCH TEMPLATE FELT TIP PEN FRONT 8. Center-punch the marks on the left side of the rear hatch. While wearing eye protection, drill the centerpunched marks to the sizes shown. To prevent drilling through the trunk lid, wrap electrical tape around each drill bit 10 mm away from the tip. First drill each hole with a 3 mm drill bit. Using an 18 mm Rotabroach sheet metal cutter, enlarge only the outer hole to 18 mm. Enlarge the two inner holes to 11.5 mm. First drill with a 6 mm drill bit, then an 8 mm drill bit, and finish with an 11.5 mm drill bit. Remove all burrs, and apply touch-up paint to the edges of the holes you drilled. Center-punch the right side, and repeat the above steps to drill the rear hatch on the right side of the vehicle. 6. Using a felt-tip pen, mark the left side of the hatch at the three small holes in the template. Remove the template. 7. Get the right outer hatch template, tape it on the rear hatch, and mark the right side the same way. 3 mm BIT CENTER-PUNCH First drill with a 3 mm drill bit, then a 6 mm, follow with an 8 mm, and finish with 11.5 mm drill bit. 9. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, clean around each of the 11.5 mm holes you drilled. Remove the adhesive backing and install one adhesive washer (with 19 mm inner diameter) to each 11.5 mm hole. 19 mm INNER DIAMETER ADHESIVE WASHER Remove the adhesive backing. 11. Using the alcohol wipe, clean each side of the rear hatch including the top of the jack nuts in the area shown. 18 mm INNER DIAMETER ADHESIVE WASHER Remove the adhesive backing. JACK NUTS 10. Install the jack nuts: Thread one jack nut onto the silver washer bolt (provided), along with the jack nut wrench. Insert the assembled jack nut into the 11.5 mm hole. While holding the jack nut wrench, thread the bolt in until the jack nut fully collapses. Install the remaining three jack nuts the same way. 12. Remove the adhesive backing, and install one adhesive washer (with 18 mm inner diameter), over each jack nut. 13. Get the spacers and the right and left wing bases. Thread one spacer into each wing base, and torque it to 10 N m (7.3 lbs ft). JACK NUTS BASE SPACER Torque to 10 N. m (7.3 lb-ft). Installing the Rear Support Struts 14. With an assistant holding up the rear hatch, replace the rear struts. Insert a small flat-tip screwdriver between the ring and the strut end, gently remove the strut from the strut holder. Remove the strut from the lower strut holder the same way. Get the new support strut. Insert a small flat-tip screwdriver between the ring and the strut end, and gently install the new strut to the strut holder. Install the other end of the strut the same way. Replace the strut on the other side of the vehicle using the same procedure. 16. Loosely install the left wing bracket to the rear hatch using two 6 x 15 mm washer bolts into the jack nuts. WASHER BOLTS LEFT BRACKET TAILGATE OPEN SCREWDRIVER STUD HOLDER REAR HATCH 17. Place the left wing base over the left wing bracket, and loosely install three 6 x 15 mm washer bolts including the bolt into the spacer from inside of the rear hatch. RING STRUT END Mark here. 15. Get the right and left wing brackets. Using a vice to hold the wing bracket, enlarge the 9 mm holes to 11.5 mm: LEFT BRACKET While wearing eye protection, use an 11.5 mm drill bit to enlarge the top and bottom 9 mm holes. Do not drill the welded nut. Apply touch-up paint and let it dry. Enlarge the holes in the other wing bracket using the same procedure. MASKING TAPE WASHER BOLTS Enlarge the holes to 11.5 mm. REAR HATCH VISE BASE STAY WASHER BOLT Flush here. LEFT BASE WELDED NUT Do not drill this hole. 18. Attach a piece of masking tape to the rear hatch slightly under the left wing bracket. With the wing base pushed flush against the hatch, pointing straight and evenly spaced, mark the bracket location on the tape using a felt-tip pen. 6 of 9 AII 45919 (1104) 2011 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. 19. Without disturbing the left wing bracket, remove the left wing base. If the left wing bracket was moved, readjust it to the line you made on the tape. Tighten the left wing bracket bolts. Remove the tape. 21. Reinstall the left wing base to the left wing bracket using two 5 x 16 mm washer bolts through the two lower holes. Then, loosely install the left wing support to the left wing bracket using three 5 x 16 mm washer bolts. Do not tighten the bolts at this time. WASHER BOLTS LEFT SUPPORT LEFT BRACKET LOWER HOLES WASHER BOLTS LEFT BASE LEFT BRACKET 20. Attach a strip of masking tape to the end of each adhesive backing, and peel back 1½ to 2 inches of adhesive backing. Fold the ends back, and tape them to the front of the left wing base. LEFT BASE MASKING TAPE 22. While holding the wing base firmly against the hatch, slowly remove the adhesive backings. Tighten the two lower 5 x 16 mm washer bolts. ADHESIVE BACKINGS LEFT BASE WASHER BOLT 23. Open the hatch and install one 6 x 15 mm washer bolt into the spacer on the base. 2011 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. All Rights Reserved. 24. Repeat steps 16 thru 23 to install the right wing base on the right side of the vehicle. 25. Position the wing on the wing base assembly, and adjust it as necessary. Install two 5 x16 mm washer bolts into the outer holes on each side of the spoiler. Torque all the bolts to 10 N m (7.3 lbs ft.), starting with the wing base bolts. 27. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, clean the wing base, where the wing base cover will attach. BASE BASE Clean thoroughly. 28. Insert the lower tabs of the wing base cover into the slots in the wing base, and install the wing base cover into position. With the wing base cover centered evenly all the way around, remove the adhesive backings. Press and hold the wing base cover in position for 30 seconds. BASE COVER BASE WASHER BOLTS 10 N.m (7.3 lb-ft) 26. Attach a strip of masking tape to the end of each adhesive backing on the left wing base cover, and peel back 1½ to 2 inches of adhesive backing. Fold the ends back, and tape them to the front of the wing base cover. BASE ADHESIVE BACKING LOWER TABS ADHESIVE BACKING MASKING TAPE LEFT BASE COVER 29.
