What is Biodiesel? Biodiesel is a clean burning alternative fuel produced from domestic, renewable recourses such as plant oils, animal fats, used cooking oil, or even algae Biodiesel is blended with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend. o B2 = 2% Biodiesel o B5 = 5% Biodiesel o B20 = 20% Biodiesel o B100 = 100% Biodiesel
Biodiesel can be used in any diesel engine with little or no modification. Biodiesel is biodegradable, nontoxic, and virtually free of sulfur. Biodiesel (B100) must meet the all of the specifications of ASTM D6751 (formally the American Society for Testing and Materials) to be registered with the EPA as a motor fuel. Biodiesel adds lubricity to ULSD.
Biodiesel is not ethanol. Ethanol is made primarily from corn and is used as a fuel in gasoline engines. Biodiesel is not raw vegetable oil. All major U.S. automakers and engine manufacturers accept the use of up to 5% biodiesel with some approving biodiesel blends of up to 20%. Most warranties require that biodiesel meet ASTM 6751 specifications. Some require biodiesel be sourced from a BQ9000 certified plant.
BQ-9000 / Louis Dreyfus Quality Management System
LDC s Biodiesel Process
Quality assurance: o building an industry o maintaining its existence BQ9000 Biodiesel Quality Assurance Biodiesel will continue to grow with the successful implementation of RFS2, state mandates, and bioheat. With this growth also comes great responsibility to maintain quality. In the Biodiesel industry this is accomplished through BQ-9000 and hard work at ASTM
BQ-9000 Quality Management Program The Root of Biodiesel Quality Promotes the commercial success of biodiesel Builds consumer and public confidence in biodiesel Established on the industry standard ASTM D6751
Annual External Audits & Quarterly Internal Audits
