WARNING Read instructions carefully before use. Never exceed the jack's rated capacity. Check vehicle owner's manual for correct vehicle weight. This jack is for lifting purposes only. Use the jack only on a solid level surface with the vehicle's hand brake on and its wheels chocked. Only use jacking points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Check vehicle owner's manual. Ensure jacking points are not corroded. Ensure the load is centred on the saddle and stable: off centre loads can slip. Ensure hands etc. are kept clear of moving parts during the raising and lowering operation. All Halfords hydraulic jacks are fitted with safety overload valve. Do not attempt to adjust this valve. Never work under a vehicle only supported by a jack. After lifting the vehicle, support immediately with properly rated axle stands. The jack is not designed to support extensions or cradles. Any modifications may render the unit unsafe. Do not use the jack if you suspect a fault. Refer to the trouble shooting section of this manual. IMPORTANT Sometimes during shipment and/or usage air gets trapped in the hydraulic system causing poor performance. Purge any air from the system by removing the oil filler plug with the jack in the upright position. Pumping the handle will force air through the filler hole. After purging, replace oil filler plug. INSTRUCTIONS The handle is in two parts, assemble by pushing together. To Lift: Park the car, apply the hand brake and chock the wheels. Before raising ensure all passengers are out of the vehicle and that they do not reenter until the vehicle is safely on the ground. Using the jack handle as a wrench turn the release valve clockwise until fully tightened. Place the handle in the operating lever, raise the vehicle to the required height and immediately support using properly rated axle stands. Always centre the load on the saddle of the jack, off centre loads may slip resulting in possible damage or injury. To lower: After removing the axle stands and using the handle as a wrench turn release valve anticlockwise very slowly. 2
INSTRUCTION FOR SAFE USE The jack is for wheel changing and snow chain attachment. Lift only one wheel at a time. Do not place any part of your body under the vehicle when it is supported by the jack alone. Use hazard lights when changing a wheel at the roadside. Apply the handbrake and place the gears in first or reverse or 'P' on automatic transmissions. Chock the wheels. Occupants should leave the vehicle. Do not start the engine when the vehicle is jacked up. Loosen wheel nuts slightly prior to jacking up the vehicle. Screw up the wheel nuts before lowering the vehicle. Securely stow the jack and do not leave loose. NOTE: It is very dangerous for users to go underneath a vehicle supported by a jack. Whether or not other supports are in use. Take special advice before using the jack on a caravan or light trailer. The jack should be inspected and lubricated regularly. CARE AND MAINTENANCE When the jack is not in use, the ram and piston should be in the fully down position to minimise piston and ram corrosion. Keep the jack clean and well lubricated. Lubricate moving parts regularly using a good quality general purpose lubricating oil. To check oil level: Place the jack upright on level ground. Lower the jack to the lowest position. Remove the oil filler plug and fill until oil is level with the bottom of the filler plug hole. Use hydraulic oil ISO VG.22.32 obtainable from Halfords. DO NOT USE BRAKE FLUID. Pump the jack unloaded 5 or 6 times to expel air. Re-fit the filler plug. Periodically check the operation of the jack. Ensure all fixings are in position and secure. Do not use the jack if you suspect a fault but refer to the trouble shooting section of this manual. Due to the safety critical nature of the product, the jack is tested and sealed at the time of manufacture. The hydraulic unit contains no serviceable parts and entry into the hydraulic unit may render the jack unsafe. For your own safety do not tamper with the hydraulic unit.
