ADVANCING PANELBOARD TECHNOLOGY WITH COMPONENT LEVEL PROTECTION. Introducing the PowerPlex Panelboard. Appleton's PowerPlex Panelboard changes the face of hazardous location panelboards by transferring the flamepath from the panelboard enclosure to individual circuit breaker housings. This highly engineered design delivers component level protection that increases hazardous location safety and flexibility, while greatly reducing and simplifying maintenance. It s a major advancement in panelboards from the worldwide leader in hazardous location electrical products. 3
INSTALLATION Appleton's PowerPlex Panelboard was engineered to provide a high level of flexibility during design and installation with no external conduit seals required. Mounting space is often at a premium within facilities, and installation locations can change during the design phase. With multiple sizes and breaker configurations, the modular PowerPlex Panelboard can be coupled both vertically and horizontally, providing a more flexible footprint. superior enclosure design The PowerPlex Panelboard s lighter weight helps make installations safer, more efficient and less costly. Its flat enclosure surfaces allow for simpler storage and transportation by eliminating the flanges required by the traditional enclosure s flamepaths. Optional gland plates enable easier on site installations and reconfigurations.
MAINTENANCE Quick and safe replacement of circuit breakers within hazardous locations can be done in the field with fewer people and at lower cost. Circuit breakers are accessed by simply unbolting the six fasteners securing the individual housing cover. Standard hand tools are all that s required and, unlike traditional panelboard enclosure covers, the individual circuit breaker housing cover can be easily removed with one hand. multiple breaker combinations Breakers are contained within a single housing. Each breaker housing accommodates: three 1-pole, or one 1-pole and one 2-pole, or one 3-pole circuit breaker for greater application flexibility. F-Frame breakers are shown. QC-Frame breakers are also compatible. Field replaceable breakers Circuit breakers are readily field replaceable. There are no special breakers to order and no heavy, bolted enclosure to secure. Utilizing standard, off the shelf circuit breakers reduces inventory costs as well as logistics for maintenance personnel. This creates the potential to significantly reduce installation time and costs. optimized breaker performance The PowerPlex Panelboard s circuit breaker housings are engineered to optimize circuit breaker life and performance. The unique design of the PowerPlex circuit breaker housing allows heat to safely dissipate, enabling the circuit breakers to maintain their rated amperage and reduce the possibility of nuisance tripping.
PROTECTION The PowerPlex Panelboard moves Appleton s proven labyrinth flamepath technology to the component level. Each circuit breaker is now placed within an individual housing designed with labyrinth joints. Just like in traditional cast panelboard enclosures, any ignited vapors or gases from inside the circuit breaker housing are cooled through the flamepaths before they are harmlessly vented into the surrounding atmosphere. Component level Flamepaths Standard Cutler-Hammer circuit breakers are secured inside individual housings. The top cover of the housing and the lower housing s labyrinth channel form the flamepath. enduring hazardous location integrity The compact, lightweight circuit breaker housings maintain flame proof integrity by eliminating the flamepath damage that is sometimes caused from mishandling or improperly securing traditional panelboards heavy, bolted enclosure covers. rugged Terminations Long term safety has also been designed into the interior of the PowerPlex Panelboard. Each circuit breaker housing connects to the panelboard through increased safety terminal connections. The terminations provide quick wiring access and are molded into the housing for unyielding performance through years of heavy vibrations and shocks. 6
customizable for more locations The PowerPlex Panelboard provides outer enclosure material options, such as stainless steel or fiberglass, for greater installation and application flexibility. Footprints are similar to traditional panelboards with configurations ranging up to 225 Amps at 600 VAC with or without a main circuit breaker. Conduit and cables no longer require sealing. Entries can be made on site, in any location, without jeopardizing flamepath protection, providing significant cost and time savings.
The PowerPlex Panelboard is flexible enough to protect powered operations throughout your facility. Whether it s heat trace applications that stretch across frozen fields or pump motors working 500 miles offshore. Each individual enclosure can fit 1-pole, 2-pole and 3-pole Cutler-Hammer F-Frame or QC-Frame circuit breakers for a voltage range from 120/240 to 600 VAC.
