1. HOW TO USE AND PRESERVE THIS USER S GUIDE: A. This user s guide gives instructions about the use and the pump maintenance. B. Pump users, beyond carefully observing what is written here, must respect the subject specific legislation. C. This guide has to be considered a part of the pump, must be conserved for future references and held in a protected and safe place to allow to be easily consulted in necessity case. D. This guide strictly respects the state of the technique at the moment of the of the pump commercialisation, and it cannot be considered inadequate just because it has been afterwards expanded or modified in some way. has the right to improve pumps and relative user s guides without having to change pumps and guides previously produced, if not in particular and exclusive safety cases. E. You may contact anytime for every special request concerning the use and the maintenance (ordinary and extraordinary) of the pump. F. is not responsible for any damages caused in case of: Pump utilizations different from the ones here described. Pump utilizations resulting irregular and not respectful for standard specifications. Serious deficiencies in the expected maintenance. Modifications or repairs not authorized from Using not original Perissinotto spare parts, or different from those exactly required G. No part of this guide can be reproduced without any written permission from Perissinotto S.p.A. 2. GENERAL SAFETY NORMS, CONDITIONS AND USE LIMITS ATTENTION! A. Before putting in motion the pump it is necessary to carefully read these instructions. In particular be sure to have understood how it works and how it has to be fixed to the sink of the gang saw. B. Do not get too close to the pump moving parts, even if adequately protected. C. Do not remove protections of the parts in motion. D. Do not make any maintenance operations when the pump is in motion. WARNINGS! A. The pump has been designed and assembled to transfer abrasive and/or acid slurries: nevertheless, to avoid damages in consequence of having pumped too large extraneous bodies, the state of the plant (grids, filters, etc) has to be checked carefully at regular timings. B. Before any use, check what s scheduled in this guide C. Do every scheduled maintenance check, expecially those concerning lubrication ATTENTION!!! You are kindly requested to follow strictly all the following instructions to avoid damages to the pump. The non-observance of these directions would cause serious damages to the pump. PEMO PUMPS 3. TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS: 4

3.1 Pump identification: First check nameplates applied on the pump and, according to the attached, verify that the matriculation number corresponds to the one reported on this guide. There are two types of nameplates (A and B); on the A one, made of aluminium, fixed on the pump protection of the V-belts, you may find: 1. Pump model 2. Pump power 3. Pump rounds number 4. Pump serial number On the two type B ones, made of stainless steel, fixed to the pump base, there is just the pump serial number Type A Type B 3.2 Pump dimensions: The attached drawing n 287.202-A reports the pump maximum dimensions 5

PEMO PUMPS 4. Pump hydraulic performances: See the attached drawing concerning hydraulic performances of a standard version pump. What reported was measured by in its test room, with the following conditions: Liquid to pump: water Pipe inner diameter: 60 or 80 millimetres Capacity measurer: magnetic induction type 100 millimetres diameter 150 kw DANFOSS inverter, with electrical data digital display. ATTENTION! Hydraulic performances data in the table cannot, IN ANY WAY, being used to foretell neither the pump capacity nor the electrical consumption when it works with slurries! Electrical consumption and capacity always change depending on the mixture physical properties (specific weight and viscosity) and on the unavoidable wear of the hydraulic parts. For eventual clarifications, directly contact the Perissinotto company. 7

PEMO PUMPS 5. PUMP INSTALLATION: GENERAL NORMS The PEMO pump 403 AO/AB-AS-B3 must operate under a hydrostatic head and must therefore be installed as shown in the Fig. 1, 2 and 3 here below. In addition, the user is advised to consider the following guidelines. 5.1 PUMP FIXING: the pump must be fixed very firmly to the ground using four bolts, which go through the holes in the base. The pump can be installed on a concrete base, on an angle-iron frame, or directly into the ground: what it really matters is that the fixing is really firm and that there are no loosening of the anchor bolts during working operation (Fig. 1). 5.2 SUCTION PIPE: this pipe must have an internal diameter equal to or greater than that of the suction intake of the pump: in no circumstances must the internal diameter of the pipe be smaller than that of the intake. Incorrect suction through a pipe of insufficient diameter could lead to vibrations inside the pump which, in the long term, would cause damages. In cases where the suction pipe has an internal diameter greater than that of intake, a conical reduction can be inserted between the piping and the pump intake. It is also recommended to insert an onoff valve between the pipe and the pump intake, in order to not have to empty the tank when the pump has to be moved for maintenance or for some other reason (Fig. 1). Obviously, the valve must also have an internal passage diameter equal to or greater than that of the pump intake. Fig. 1 PEMO PUMPS 8

5.3 DELIVERY PIPE: It is mandatory to insert an elastic element between the pump and the delivery piping! This can be made by means of an elastic joint (Fig. 2) or, when there are difficulties due to alignment errors, with a flexible, anti-abrasive rubber pipe, inserted between the delivery outlet of the pump and the rigid delivery pipe (Fig. 3). These solutions will help to cut most of the vibrations that could cause mechanical damages to the pump itself. In case the mechanical joint is used, it has to be kept well in mind that this device is not designed and made to stand the weight of the delivery piping! Fig. 2 Fig. 3 In alternative, it s possible to use a elastic joint, which accomplishes in a better way the same function of the element of rubber pipe. The installation scheme is shown on the drawing Fig. 3. It has to be kept in mind that the elastic joint is not load bearing and so the superior metallic piping must have the necessary substation not load on the joint. 5.4 MOTOR ELECTRICAL CONNECTION: PEMO pumps 403 AO/AB-AS-B3 model for filter-press could be endowed with motor of single speed 2900 rpm (2 poles) or double speed: 1450/2900 rpm (4/2 poles) with SINGLE WINDING type DAHLANDER. 5.4.1 The motor SINGLE SPEED 2900 rpm (2 poles) must be connected in STAR/TRIANGLE configuration. A timer controlled the switching from star to triangle. The star configuration is maintained for 30 40 seconds then, till the end of the cycle, it pass to triangle. 5.4.2 The motor DOUBLE SPEED 1450/2900 rpm (4/2 poles), under control of a timer, must start at the first motor s speed - 1450 rpm - till the reaching of the greatest pressure obtainable with this speed (1 1,5 atm). Then the motor must be switched at the second speed - 2900 rpm so that the pump will reach the maximum pressure (4 4,5 atm), closing the cycle. Pay attention that the motor has six terminals, three of which are used for the first speed and the remaining three correspond to the second speed. So ensure that, when the motor works at the first speed, the feeding cables of the inferior terminals are perfectly free (detached from the line). At the end of the work with the first speed detach the three feeding superior terminals and connect them in the star configuration with a remote control switch, then connect the remaining three to make the motor working at the second speed. FOR THE CONNECTION AT THE FIRST AND THE SECOND SPEED SEE THE ELECTRIC SCHEME IN THE MOTOR S TERMINAL BOARD. When the motor works at the first speed, the feeding cables of the inferior terminals must be detached from the line. When it is time to switch from the first to the second speed the electric input of the three superior terminals has to be detached and the terminals are to be star-connected by means of an auxiliary remote control switch. PEMO PUMPS 9

These operations must be concatenated, that is dependent each other by means of auxiliary contacts of the three remote control switches. In particular, calling TBV the control switch of the low speed, TS the control switch with star-connection, TAV the control switch of the high speed, one must be sure that: TBV may be inserted when TS an TAS are open TS may be inserted when TBV and TAS are open When TS is closed, it gives consent at the closing of TAV One must be sure that these auxiliary operations are perfect, because if, for instance, TS closes badly, the motor would turn with double speed and the coils could overheat. The same would happen if TAV starts before the complete disinsertion of TBV. SO WHEN CONNECTING THE MOTOR OF THE PUMP TO THE MAIN ELECTRIC BOARD, WHICH IS USUALLY DIRECTLY SUPPLIED BY THE FILTER-PRESS MANUFACTURER, IT IS ADVISABLE TO CHECK WITH AN ELECTRICIAN. 5.5 STARTING THE PUMP: as stated earlier, the pump must always operate under a head. When it is started, level B (Fig. 1 and 4) in the tank must be always higher than the pump casings, to be quite sure that the pump primes correctly and does not operate dry. Obviously, this requirement also holds while the pump is in operation and it is advisable to have a float switch which turns the pump off whenever the tank level goes below depth B. Fig. 4 5.6 STOPPING THE PUMP: while the pump is not in operation, always take care to prevent sedimentation of solid particles inside the pump, as these could cause clogging and tearing when the pump is started up again. So, whenever the pump is turned off for a fairly long period of time, it is recommended to pump clean water for a few minutes in order to wash the piping thoroughly and avoid the danger of sedimentation of solid particles (Fig. 5) with the pump operating. Fig. 5 10

5.7 IMPORTANT: before starting the pump, the tap which delivers flux water to the seals chamber must be opened. The water must flow into the lower part of the casing through a pipe having a minimum diameter of 1/4", and exit out from the upper part. The requested minimum pressure of the flushing water must be 0,5 1 atm, maximum must be 2 bars. In any case, a tap can be used to regulate the quantity of flux water as needed (Fig. 6). For this pump, it is recommended a flux of 4/8 liters/min of water. This operation is extremely important because if there is no flux water the mechanical seals will obviously be operating dry and can be seriously damaged in just a few minutes. It is thus advisable to fit a suitable electronic control panel wired up to a solenoid valve and time switch in such a way as to make it impossible to start running the pump if the flux of water is not already running. One imperfect functioning of the sealing device can be detected looking at the purity of the outlet flushing water: the eventual presence of impurities would mean that it is necessary to replace immediately the seals to avoid greater damages to the bearings. Fig. 6 6. LUBRICATION (OIL) and BEFORE SETTING THE PUMP TO WORK, ONE MUST: Put the lubrication oil previously discharged into the containing chamber or, if it is necessary to replace it, 1,7 kg of new oil (suggested bearings oil type EP 100 or equivalent). Make sure that the intermediate seal chamber is washed with clean running water. One must connect the input pipe to the lower connection, which must have an adjustment tap. The drain will be connected to the upper connection: in this way, formation of air bubbles inside the seal chamber is avoided. A defecting sealing is indicated by impurities in the drain water. In that case, the failure must be promptly repaired to avoid serious damages of the second seal. ATTENTION! Everytime the pump is stopped for long periods (above all in the winter season), it is advisable to empty the group held from the residual water in order to avoid the stagnation or its eventual freezing around the mechanical seals. Check periodically the oil level through the two indicators, visible on both side of the pump. Replace totally the lubrication oil every six months. Use, for topping up and total replacement, as previously indicated, specific bearings oil, normally found on the market. For oil charging one should use the load plug, and for total oil replacement use the discharge plug, as indicated in the figure. NB. You are kindly requested to follow strictly our instructions to avoid damages to the pump. The non-observance of these directions would cause serious damages to the pump. 11
