Instruction Sheet P/N Series 900/M Pump Retrofit Kit WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Observe and follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation.. Introduction The large bearing housing for the Series 900/M gear pump assembly has been redesigned. This retrofit kit contains the components necessary to replace the pump assembly on Series 900/M applicators with a redesigned pump assembly. The motor and reducer assembly are not affected.. Series 900/M Pump Replacement Use these procedures to replace the pump assembly on a Series 900/M applicator with the redesigned pump assembly in this retrofit kit. See Figure 6 in the Parts section of this instruction sheet for an assembly drawing of the kit components. Preparing for Pump Replacement Follow this procedure to prepare the applicator for pump replacement and to access the pump and drive assembly.
Series 900/M Pump Retrofit Kit Preparing for Pump Replacement (contd.) WARNING: Hot! Risk of burns! Hot applicator parts, splashed hot melt material, and hot gun surfaces can cause severe burns. Wear long-sleeved, heat-protective clothing, safety goggles, and heat-protective gloves. Hot melt material may be released forcefully.. Turn on the applicator and allow it to reach operating temperature.. Drain hot melt material from the hopper and reservoir through the manifold drain valve or the reservoir drain plug.. Turn off the applicator. WARNING: Even when switched off, Nordson applicators, hoses, and guns contain electrical potentials that can cause death. Disconnect and lock out power to the applicator. 4. Disconnect and lock out electrical power to the applicator. WARNING: Risk of burns. System or material pressurized. Relieve pressure. Air trapped in hoses and guns can spit out molten adhesive that can cause severe burns. 5. Relieve hydraulic pressure by following the instructions in the applicator manual. 6. Loosen the hopper enclosure screws, lift the enclosure, and disconnect the ground wire. Set the enclosure aside.
Series 900/M Pump Retrofit Kit Removing the Pump and Drive Assembly Follow this procedure to remove the pump and drive assembly from the applicator and to disassemble and discard the appropriate pump parts. To Remove the Motor and Reducer Assembly. Disconnect the RPM sensor plug. 4069 Fig. Disconnecting the RPM Sensor Plug. Remove the mounting screws and washers that secure the motor and reducer assembly to the pump mount. Save the screws and washers for later use.

6 Series 900/M Pump Retrofit Kit To Remove and Disassemble the Pump Assembly. Remove the mounting screws and lock washers that secure the pump mount to the applicator. Discard the screws and washers. Remove the pump mount, pump assembly, gaskets, insulator, and pan from the applicator. Discard the gaskets, insulator, and pan.. Clean the grid s pump-mounting surface, removing any hot melt material. 4. Remove the screws and lock washers that secure the pump assembly and large bearing housing to the pump mount. Save the screws and washers for later use.

Remove the crossover tube and return tube from the pump assembly. Save the crossover tube, return tube, securing screws, and washers for later use. 8 Series 900/M Pump Retrofit Kit Assembling the Pump and Drive Assembly Components Follow this procedure to assemble the new pump and drive assembly components from the retrofit kit. To Assemble the Seal and Small Bearing Housing NOTE: The retrofit kit contains a seal, small bearing housing, large bearing housing, large bearing housing o-ring, and all associated screws and washers.. Install the o-ring on the large bearing housing.. Place the seal exactly over the center of the hole in the large bearing housing. This is the same hole that the pump shaft passes through.. Using the small bearing housing as a pressing tool, gently press the seal into its hole in the large bearing housing. If the seal does not go into place easily, do not force it. Realign the seal and try again. NOTE: Make sure that the sleeve Rulon J bearing material is inside the small bearing housing. 4 4. Install the small bearing housing in the large bearing housing and turn the small bearing housing so that the three holes align with the tapped screw holes in the large bearing housing. 5. Secure the small bearing housing to the large bearing housing with the three short screws and washers from the kit. Torque the screws to.8.7 N m (6 4 lb-in.). The crossover tube and return tube removed from the old pump are reused.. Secure the pump assembly to the large bearing housing with the two 55-mm hex-head screws (the longest screws) and washers from the kit (see Figure ). Torque the screws to 7. 9.0 N m (64 80 lb-in.). 4. Apply threadlocking adhesive to the four socket-head screws that secure the large bearing housing to the pump mount; then use the screws to secure the housing to the pump mount. Pump mount Installing the New Pump and Drive Assembly Follow this procedure to install the new pump and drive assembly on the applicator. To Install the Pump Assembly. Remove all hot melt material from the crossover tube and manifold inlet port.. Position the crossover tube in the manifold inlet port.
Series 900/M Pump Retrofit Kit. Take one of the gaskets and place it on the grid mounting surface so that the gasket holes line up with the mounting surface holes. 4. Align the pan and a second gasket in the same way. NOTE: The new pump assembly uses only two gaskets, instead of three. The insulator is also eliminated. 5. Align the pump mount with the pan and gaskets so the mounting holes match up. 6. Secure the pump mount to the grid using the four 45-mm screws and washers from the kit. Torque to 0.85.56 N m (8 0 ft-lb). 40797 Fig. Aligning the Gaskets and Pan To Install the Bottom Coupling NOTE: The retrofit kit contains a new coupling, which includes a top coupling, bottom coupling, spider, two shaft keys, and two extra set screws. 4. Slide the bottom half of the coupling (the coupling with the smallest inside diameter) onto the pump shaft. You may need to loosen the coupling set screw first.. Install the top half of the coupling on the motor shaft. You may need to loosen the coupling set screw first.. Insert the motor shaft key into the top half of the coupling.. Series 900/M Pump Retrofit Kit To Install the Motor and Reducer Assembly. Position the heat shield on top of the pump mount.. Position the motor and reducer assembly on the pump mount, turning the shaft on the motor until the top and bottom coupling halves align correctly and lock together.. Secure the motor and reducer assembly to the pump mount using the four hex-head screws and lock washers removed earlier (see Figure ). Tighten the screws hand-tight; then tighten the screws in the following way: tighten one of the screws, then tighten the screw diagonally opposite the first one, then tighten the remaining two screws. Finally, torque the screws to 0.85.56 N m (8 0 ft-lb). 4. Adjust the top coupling, leaving a 0.5.0-mm (0.0 0.04-in.) gap between the top and bottom couplings. Torque the coupling set screw to 8.8 9.8 N m (78 87 in-lb). 5. Add the extra set screw to the top coupling and hand-tighten the screw (see Figure 5). Restoring the Applicator to Normal Operation Follow this procedure to restore the applicator to normal operation after replacing the pump assembly.. Reconnect the RPM sensor plug (see Figure ).. Attach the ground wire to the hopper enclosure.. Set the hopper enclosure in place and tighten the enclosure screws. 4. Remove the lock-out and restore power to the applicator. 5. Restore the applicator to normal operation by following the instructions in the applicator manual for preparing the unit for first operation.
