What s going on? From August 5 October 1, there will be no train service on weekends while we install Positive Train Control (PTC), a federally-mandated, safety control system that automatically reduces train speeds when needed and helps to avoid collisions.
Why do you have to shut down the entire line? There will be crews working all along the line, installing sheds, lines, wires, etc. For safety and efficiency, we need to make sure that they don t get in each other s way.
Why now? Our timeframe is tight because of a federal deadline. Every commuter rail line needs to be updated, and we need to take advantage of the summer and fall weather.
Accessible bus shuttles available Accessible bus shuttles will run between Lowell and North Station making stops at every Commuter Rail station. All stops will be accessible. Lowell North Billerica Wilmington Anderson/Woburn Winchester Center Wedgemere West Medford North Station
How much do I pay and where do I get a ticket? Credit card? $4 one-way, $8 roundtrip Buy it onboard or on the mticket app Cash? $10 roundtrip Cash only at North Station Tickets not based on zones. Monthly passes accepted. Senior/TAP pay half fare. Two children 11 and under ride free with 1 adult.
