歓迎 かんげい HORIZON 2020 The European Union's programme for Research and Innovation Open to the world! Aviation Unit European Commission DG Research & Innovation

Horizon 2020 Aviation R&I WHAT is? Horizon2020 - Introduction - Three Pillars WHY Transport/Aviation? WHICH Aviation opportunities? - Goals - Work-programme - CleanSky, others WHY international cooperation? HOW to participate? WHERE & WHO to contact? - Drivers - Modalities - Past Examples - Practical directions

WHAT is Horizon 2020? World largest open R&I Program A single programme: 79 billion Funding Program for Research and Innovation (2014-2020). A response to economic crisis by investing in future jobs and growth: Coupling research to innovation 'from research to retail' Addressing people's concerns about their livelihoods, safety and environment i.e. Focus on societal challenges : e.g. aging, clean energy and transport Open to participation by companies, universities and institutes in EU & beyond 2-Year Work Programmes, identifying research areas to be funded. Open to the world Open calls for proposals: International, independent peer-review 3

Three pillars for Horizon 2020 Covering whole innovation chain 4

WHAT is Horizon 2020? Three Pillars I. Excellent science European Research Council (13 095 Million ) Supporting top researchers from anywhere in the world (for research in EU or in Associated countries). Future Emerging Technologies (2 696 Million ) Supports visionary thinking through collaborations between science and engineering. Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (6 162 Million ) Training/career development, international exchanges. Research infrastructures (2 488 Million ) Access to world-class facilities (incl. e-facilities) Policy Research and Innovation 5

WHAT is Horizon 2020? Three Pillars II. Industrial technologies (13 557 Million ) Information and Communication Technologies Nanotechnologies, Advanced materials, Biotechnology, Advanced manufacturing & processing 70 % of technical innovations hinge on new materials Space + Access to risk finance + Innovation in SMEs Policy Research and Innovation

WHAT is Horizon 2020? Three Pillars III. Societal challenges (funding in million) Societal changes 1310 Security 1695 Climate 3081 Health 7472 Transport 6339 Food 3851 Energy 5931 7

Socio-economic Transport means, modes, systems, policy goals and societal challenges global competition Intelligent Transport Systems climate resilience Water Rail Road Urban Infrastructure security Air Logistics sustainability 8
