SCOPE OF WORK Avče Pumped Storage Plant is the first power plant of its kind in Slovenia and represents the largest investment in Slovenian energy sector at the moment. According to the project plan of the Investor Soške Elektrarne Nova Gorica d.o.o., the commissioning of the plant is foreseen for the end of year 2008. The Avče PSP is located on the Soča River, approximately 24 km north of Nova Gorica and 2,3 km upstreams of Ajba dam. The Ajba reservoir serves for downstream HPP Plave I and II and also as lower reservoir of Avče PSP. The upper reservoir is located in a natural depression on the hilltop near to the village Kanalski vrh, with a reservoir confining a water volume of some 2,2 mio m 3. A 700 m long headrace tunnel, running underneath the ridge of Avški Kuk, and 1,3 km long steel penstock connect the reservoir with the powerhouse, located on the left bank of the Soča River. The maximum head of 521 m and the installed discharge of 40 m 3 /s enable the maximum power of 185 MW in turbine mode. The maximum power in pump mode is 180 MW at discharge of 32 m 3 /s. During the off-load hours, the power plant will operate in pump/motor mode consuming the energy for pumping the water into the upper reservoir. During the peak-load hours the accumulated water will be used for production of electrical energy. The planned yearly consumption and production amounts to 563 GWh and 426 GWh, respectively. In spite of higher consumption compared to production, the price difference will result in high profitability of the power plant. Besides covering a significant part of the daily peak-load in the Slovenian power system, Avče PSP will also provide additional services, such as system reserve, frequency control and voltage control. PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER PLANT GUT&PET Installation of turnkey power plant INVESTOR Gut&Pet d.o.o. Betajnova 15, 1360 Vrhnika, Slovenia phone: +386 1 755 75 75 fax: +386 1 755 75 74 www.gutpet.si Contact: Peter Gutnik e-mail: gut.pet@siol.net 2010

SCOPE OF WORKS Solar photovoltaic power plant Gut & Pet is a turnkey solution, which means that we took the whole project organization and realized it hand in hand with investor s idea. In addition to building the PV power plant itself, we obtained all of the permits and approvals that are needed in the case of photovoltaic power plant connection to the public distribution network. We arranged all the necessary documentation for the investor and handed him the operating instructions. We have also provided a professional maintenance support for the power plant. Solar photovoltaic power plant Gut & Pet is grid connected and acts as a distributed energy PV source. All produced electrical energy is fed into the distribution system network. The main units of the system are: Photovoltaic generator in form of polycrystalline silicon solar modules, metal supporting structure on the roofs of two manufacturing facilities, inverters, protective devices and switching components with wiring, control devices, monitoring site with electricity meter. PV POWER PLANT DATA: INSTALLED POWER: MODULE TYPE: INVERTER TYPE: PLANNED YEARLY YIELD: 201.312 kwp BISOL 233 Wp SMA Sunny Mini Central 11000 TL 215 MWh OPERATION PRINCIPLE: The main component of PV power plant are photovoltaic modules, which are made of polycrystalline silicon cells. These are using photoelectric effect that converts solar energy into electricity. Photovoltaic generator (PV modules) feeds the power into the grid trough the inverter that converts DC voltage from the modules, into the AC voltage that is suitable for connection to the distribution network. Monitoring and controlling of the PV power plant operation also plays an important role in the system. Photovoltaic power plant system should therefore contain a central unit for data collection and control of the system operation. Other elements that are important for safe operation of the PV plant are surge protectors, fuses and main disconnector switch (which separates the plant from the grid), that are located in the main cubicle, which is also the link between the inverter and PV generator. Before the generated electricity is feed into the grid, its output must be measured. This is accomplished in the measuring site, which includes an electricity meter. Automatic meter reading Automated meter reading (AMR) is a state-of-the-art technology that enables collection of data from geographically dispersed meters and other devices at customers premises. The data is collected at utility s central location using either private or public telecommunications networks. It involves the following components: - electronic meters with register and communication interface unit, - concentrators inside transformer stations, - communication network or system to transfer the data from the meters to the utility s offices, - an AMR control center computers to receive, collect and manage this data - software to run the system and present the data to the utility's billing and other information systems AMR presents a strong business case for distribution utilities. Namely, significant cost savings can be obtained by automating the monthly process of reading out the electricity meters with the on-line connection to the customer billing process. Such automation increases customer service, smoothens business operations, improves operational efficiencies and system reliability. AMR system can be even further expanded with connect/disconnect option (to enforce payment policies) and other functionalities, like reading of water and gas meters.
