Deck extensions and outriggers must be retracted or folded in to this dimension. There is no provision for overweight axles when transporting hay or straw bales. When a vehicle transports bales beyond the 50 km. radius, an over-dimension permit must be obtained. 1.2 Loading (a) No more than one third of any bale can extend beyond the edge of the trailer deck or hayrack. (b) For any truck or trailer, the number of bales loaded on an upper layer shall not exceed the number of bales loaded on the lower layer. 1.3 Loading Styles for Round Bales Crosswise Pipe style Mushroom Style 1 (lower layer stands on end) Mushroom Style 2 (lower layer stands on end) Barrel Style (both layers stand on end) Page 1 of 11

(b) Bulkheads supporting both the lower and upper layers of round bales must extend at least 2.4 metres (8 feet) above the deck. Note that a double high bulkhead may be used at only one end of a trailer as the number of bales on the upper layer cannot be greater than the number on the lower layer. 11.4 Fabrication: (a) All bulkheads, edge rails, and extensions are to be designed to support the load, and are to be built by a journeyman welder at a qualified fabrication shop using acceptable trade practice.
