Coordination Action on Ppp Implementation for Road-transport Electrification Gonzalo HENNEQUET (RENAULT) Coordinator of CAPIRE www.capire.eu

The Coordination Action CAPIRE sustains and puts into practice the t European Green Cars Initiative PPP Objectives Propose the implementation paths of the PPP EGCI, Identify the technology roadblocks and framework needs, Describe the related Research priorities within the framework of FP7, FP8 and afterwards, Facilitate the dissemination of results of the projects funded under the EGCI Passenger Cars & LCV Three technology pillars Trucks & Buses Logistics Accelerating electrification of vehicles and providing a dedicated infrastructure for the connection to CO2-free energy sources Improve overall efficiency of road and city transport by developing more effective vehicles, standardised load carriers and supporting ITS/ICT systems Increase the efficiency of goods transport by optimizing loading rate of trucks and mixing different energy saving transport vectors

WP5 Results / EGCI EV Roadmap Update Drafted by ERTRAC/EPoSS/SmartGrids Task Force Electrification 7

Review of Technology Paths Milestone 3 PHEV providing 50km pure electric range, having an energy consumption of about 200 Wh/km as well as same comfort and same safety as a conventional car. A price of an additional 2000 Euros per unit appears to be acceptable. EV providing 200km pure electric range, seating four passengers, having an energy consumption of 100 Wh/km, smart (and on the long run: bidirectional) charging capabilities, same comfort and same safety, at reasonably comparable cost of ownership. Milestone 4 Electric vehicle with novel platform facilitating lower consumption and thus providing a higher range. Modularity may even allow a convergence of full electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid.

Goals for Milestone 4 (2025) Energy Storage Systems Move to Post Li-Ion batteries 4-5 times higher energy density and tripled lifetime at 15% cost compared to 2009 Capability of bi-directional and fast charging Drive Train Technologies innovative concepts Use of novel materials Zero emission EV

Safety Goals for Milestone 4 (2025) Active Safety measures Updated safety systems Transport System Integration Enhanced usage of car-to-x communication for automated and cooperative driving System Integration Entirely revised modular EV platform and ICT- Reference architecture / middleware Grid Integration Wide spread use of inductive charging Enhanced bi-directional charging En-route charging functionality
