Intrductin Frewrd This revised Autmtive Service Technician Prgram Outline is intended as a guide fr instructrs, apprentices, and emplyers f apprentices as well as fr the use f industry rganizatins, regulatry bdies, and prvincial and federal gvernments. It reflects updated standards based n the 2016 Red Seal Occupatinal Standard (RSOS) and the Autmtive Service Technician Occupatinal Analysis (2016) and British Clumbia industry and instructr subject matter experts. Practical instructin by demnstratin and student participatin shuld be integrated with classrm sessins. Safe wrking practices, even thugh nt always specified in each peratin r tpic, are an implied part f the prgram and shuld be stressed thrughut the apprenticeship. This Prgram Outline includes a list f recmmended reference textbks that are available t supprt the learning bjectives and the minimum shp requirements needed t supprt instructin. The Prgram Outline was prepared with the advice and assistance f the Autmtive Service Technician Review Cmmittee and will frm the basis fr further updating f the British Clumbia Autmtive Service Technician Prgram by the Industry Training Authrity (ITA). Cmpetencies are t be evaluated thrugh written exams and practical assessments. A passing grade is achieved by getting an verall mark f 70%. See the Assessment Guidelines in the Appendix fr mre details. The types f questins used n these exams must reflect the cgnitive level indicated by the learning bjectives and the learning tasks listed in the related cmpetencies. Achievement Criteria are included fr thse cmpetencies that require a practical assessment. The intent f including Achievement Criteria in the Prgram Outline is t ensure cnsistency in training acrss the many training institutins in British Clumbia. Their purpse is t reinfrce the thery and t prvide a mechanism fr evaluatin f the learner s ability t apply the thery t practice. It is imprtant that these perfrmances be bservable and measureable and that they reflect the skills spelled ut in the cmpetency as thse required f a cmpetent jurneypersn. The cnditins under which these perfrmances will be bserved and measured must be clear t the learner as well as the criteria by which the learner will be evaluated. The learner must als be given the evaluatin criteria. The perfrmance spelled ut in the Achievement Criteria is a suggested perfrmance and is nt meant t stifle flexibility f delivery. Training prviders are welcme t substitute ther practical perfrmances that measure similar skills and attainment f the cmpetency. Multiple perfrmances may als be used t replace individual perfrmances where apprpriate. SAFETY ADVISORY Be advised that references t the WrkSafeBC safety regulatins cntained within these materials d nt/may nt reflect the mst recent Occupatinal Health and Safety Regulatin the current Standards and Regulatin in BC can be btained n the fllwing website: http://www.wrksafebc.cm. Please nte that it is always the respnsibility f any persn using these materials t infrm him/herself abut the Occupatinal Health and Safety Regulatin pertaining t his/her wrk.
