Off-Grid Living Interactive Inverter-Chargers

At a glance... Powerful sine wave inverter, battery charger and auto transfer switch in one unit Compact design with big power handling Power output guaranteed up to 70ºC - perfect for hot outback conditions & harsh environments Intelligent power management Automatically switch between inverter and generator power Automatically charges batteries when AC generator (or other AC power source) connected Automatically start the generator when required A reliable supply of 240V mains electricity is something many of us take for granted, but for those in remote or isolated locations, mains grid electricity may be unreliable, prohibitively expensive to have connected, or may not be available at all. In these situations, a DC to AC power inverter is the most sensible solution to providing 240V mains power, and a Rich Electric interactive inverter-charger is the best choice offering all the features, performance and flexibiliy needed to give reliable 240V power in any number of different off-grid or remote power systems. Whether power be generated by renewable sources such as solar, wind or hyrdo, or if it s provided by a backup generator, the interactive inveters-chargers are more than capable of managing and controlling power to ensure stable power delivery with minimal fuss. Even in the harshest of Australian outback conditions, or the bitter winter cold of southern New Zealand, the interactive inverterchargers will keep on delivering stable, reliable power. Power support feature - boost the input power with inverter power Stack multiple units for more power Options available for full control and monitoring of solar, generator, DC charging, DC loads, etc. Expanding options allow for cost effective and simple upgrades 2-phase and 3-phase capable Designed in Australia to suit harsh Australian conditions 2 year factory backed warranty (optional 5 year warranty) Models SC-1500 (12V) & SC-3000 (24V) pictured (above)

Live Remote with Renewable Energy Live independently from the electricity grid Never have to pay a power bill Source green power from renewable sources Live remotely with all the comforts you need Renewable Energy Sources Power Hydro Power Wind Power When living remotely, either off the grid completely or in a difficult or expensive location to obtain a grid connection, there are a few choices for sources of power; connect to the grid at potentially great expense (if it s even available), use a fossil fuel burning generator, or use renewal energy sources. The most sensible choice is to source power from renewable sources, such as solar, wind or hydro power. By using renewable energy sources, there is no reliance on a stored supply of fossil fuels, the only reliance is on the abundance of natural energy. Renewable energy sources are collected, converted into electrical power, and stored into a battery bank to be used when required. By using renewable energy sources in a remote or off-grid situations, the system can be completely independent and not require any other external energy sources, providing completely independent, green living. The interactive inverter-chargers are a fantastic solution for harvesting, storing and managing renewable energy, with the ability to expand to integrate with a solar array, hydro generator system, or wind turbine generator. The interactive inverterchargers are able to centrally manage and control whatever renewable source is connected to the power system to ensure optimal charge is delivered into the battery bank, and that the stored power is then efficiently converted back into usable 240V mains power. Using renewable energy doesn t mean losing life s creature comforts though! Thanks to the big power capacity of the Rich Electric interactive inverter-chargers, comforts such as air-conditioning, electric washing machines and other power hungry appliances can still be used*, ensuring comfortable living on a remote property. * inverter size and renewable energy sources must be sized according to the load requirements.

Features Main Features Big Power Output Continuous output @ 70 C Max Surge Charge Output 1500W 3000W 4500W 35A at 24VDC Pure Sinewave 3000W 6000W 9000W 70A at 24VDC Pure Sinewave By utilising low frequency inverter design, which employs a very large torroidal transformer with very high electrical isolation, the Interactive inverter-chargers are capable of handling the heavy start up surge load on moderately sized domestic air-conditioner units, depending on what other 240V appliances are running at the time. A 1500W unit can happily start and run a 2-3kW inverter type air conditioner, and a 3000W unit can happily start and run a 5-6kW inverter type air conditioner. The high current 4-stage battery charger ensures that maximum charge is delivered into the batteries whilst the backup generator is running, reducing the necessary run time of the generator. 1500W = 2~3kW Air Conditioner* 3000W = 5~6kW Air Conditioner* *using inverter type air-con system Stacking For More Power/ Multi-Phase In many applications, 1500W or 3000W is simply not enough power to support the 240V loads or to make matters more complicated, 3-phase power is required. 3000W 3000W = 6000W Total Power Output 3 Units In 1 Packed inside the Interactive inverter-chargers are three main core elements: a powerful low frequency pure sinewave inverter, a high power 4-stage battery charger, and a fast action automatic AC changeover switch. By having all three units combined into the one product saves on space, weight, and reduces installation complexities. Inverter Battery Charger Transfer Switch With the Interactive inverterchargers, multiple units can be parallel stacked, or multi-phase stacked, to achieve bigger output power and provide 2-phase or 3-phase power. Up to 5 units can be stacked in parallel per phase, or up to 15 units in total (5 units x 3-phases). 3000W 3000W 3000W = 9000W Total / 3-Phase Power All features are seamlessly integrated to give fully automatic operation without any manual switching required. Generator Auto Start Power Support In an off-grid application, existing AC power sources typically only have a limited capacity, for example a generator could be the only existing source of AC power. By using a interactive inverter-charger you can avoid any problems this could cause. When paired with a generator with compatible auto-start functionality, a Interactive inverter-charger can start the generator automatically. You can program the generator to start when batteries discharge to a certain level, the AC load exceeds a certain level, at certain times of day, or programming generator run block-out times*, allowing for better system integration and automation. In addition, minimum run times and minimum off times are individually programmable as well. *timer function only available on SuperCombi Simply program the Interactive inverter-charger with the maximum power available from the generator or other AC power source, and the Combi will not exceed that power limit. When more power is required than what the generator/other AC source can provide, the Combi will boost the output power by adding extra inverter power taken from the batteries. When the load decreases, any spare AC input power is used to recharge the batteries. This can eliminate the need to select a generator capable of supplying the peak power demands, as the Interactive inverter-charger can handle the peak; so a smaller sized generator can be used at a greater operating efficiency, using less fuel. 3000W Inverter Power from Battery 7000W Total Output 4000W Generator Supplied Power

Features Dynamic Power Shifting As well as being able to boost the output power, the CombiPlus and SuperCombi have another special feature that allows you to run a much smaller generator than would otherwise be needed. Dynamic Power Shifting is a feature for heavy startup loads such as an air-con unit, which places the heavy startup load on the inverter, and then once the load has stabilised the Combi slowly transfers the load across to the generator. So now, instead of needing a big 3kVA or larger generator to kick over the air-con unit, it is possible to use a far smaller unit, running at a greater efficiency burning less fuel. Temperature Rating and De-Rating Centralised System Control (Expansion Products) Most inverters on the market are rated at an internal ambient temperature of 25ºC, and due to a phenomenon known as de-rating their output power reduces as the operating temperature increases. This temperature is the ambient temperature inside the inverter, which is often 10-15ºC higher than 100% the surrounding environment, meaning that an inverter operating on a typically warm 30ºC day 80% will actually be running at 40-45ºC inside the case. This would typically only provide around 70% of full rated output. 60% The power output of a Interactive Inverter-Charger has NO DE-RATING. Power Output 40% Interactive Inverter-Chargers Alternative Inverters Optional Rich Electric products can be incorporated into the system and centrally controlled and monitored through the Combi Series Interactive inverter-charger. Allows for full system control and monitoring of all parts through the one central device. The progressive expandability of the Combi Series allows gradual additions to the power system, giving far greater flexibility to gradual increases in power requirements. Panels Controller Mains Grid Generator interactive inverter-chargers are rated at 70ºC, meaning that they are guaranteed to provide their full rated power output right up to 70ºC (thermal shutdown at 71ºC). This means more power in normal operative conditions than alternative inverters rated at 25ºC! 20% Typical Operating Temp. 25 30 40 50 60 70 80 Internal Temperature ( C) DC Loads DC Generation Source DC Controller Auto Transfer Switch This temperature rating is significantly important for those in outback conditions where summer temperatures can reach in excess of 40ºC which would have the inverter running at 50-55ºC. In these conditions, the interactive inverter-chargers will provide up to 50% more power than an equivalent unit rated at 25ºC DC Controllers AC Output Battery Bank Remote Control Panel For information and specifications on our full range of solar panels, batteries, solar controllers, generators, mounting hardware and other associated products, as well as various support tools, please visit our Power Systems website: www.jaycar.com.au/powertech

Applications Applications Off-Grid System In most off-grid applications, solar power will be harnessed as DC power and stored into a battery bank to support the power demands. Since solar is not always able to supply all the power demands, a generator is almost always incorporated to supplement the energy provided by solar and to provide backup power. A typical off-grid solar system would be something like this: Panels Controller Batteries Off Grid System Install in Western NSW Hybrid Grid-Connected System AC Generator Hybrid Off-Grid System Inverter-Charger AC Output In some other applications, grid power may already be available to some extent. This grid power may be unstable, unreliable, or perhaps the intention of the hybrid system is to minimise use of grid supplied power to be as selfsufficient as possible or to maximise solar feed-in tariff to the grid; whatever the application, a interactive inverter-charger and worx grid inverter can be combined to supply power as required. Furthermore, since the system is utilising the worx grid inverter, excess power can be put back into the grid, and a feed-in tarrif paid to the household*. For larger systems, or where the majority of daytime loads are using AC power, it is often more efficient to directly convert solar power into AC, using the Rich Electric worx Grid Inverter. The worx grid inverter supplies AC power to the 240V loads, and the excess is used to recharge the batteries. When the load exceeds the power delivered by the worx, the Interactive inverter-charger uses the Power Support feature to boost the total power output. When the batteries become fully charged, the will then tell the worx to shutdown via the Combi-Net communication cable. These Hybrid Grid-Connected Systems systems can be configured to: Minimise reliance on grid power Minimise or eliminate use of grid power Provide backup protection where grid power is unreliable Maximise the amount of solar power fed back into the grid Take maximum advantage of time-of-use metering The worx grid inverter does need a grid supply to synchronise to, which is provided by the inverter output. This system can also be very handy in applications where the solar panels need to be installed quite some distance from the batteries, for example in a remote home where the solar panels need to be installed on the roof of the home, and the batteries and Interactive inverter-charger are installed in the shed over 50m away. In these applications, converting the solar directly to AC power eliminates the need to run excessively large DC cabling a long distance from the solar panels to the batteries. Systems and Accessories Interactive Inverter-Chargers CombiPlus Series Models: CP-1500-122, CP-3000-242 When the advanced features such as DC charging control, AC charger timer, remote generator timer, and DC load control are not required, the CombiPlus is the best choice. The CombiPlus still has all the power support features, remote generator start, temperature rating and power output that is expected with an Invertek inverter-charger. SuperCombi Series Models: SC-1500-122, SC-1500-242, SC-3000-242 Carrying all the features, bells and whilstles you would expect from the flagship of the Invertek. Carries all the features of the CombiPlus, but also has ability to auto-start/ run the generator on a timer, run the battery charger on a timer, control DC charging sources, as well as control DC load outputs. Worx Grid Inverter - 2kW A multi-purpose grid-inverter capable of working either directly from solar panel input, or from a battery input that is charged by renewable sources - making it suitable for solar, as well as wind and hydro renewable energy. When matched with a interactive inverter-charger, the worx grid-inverter allows for hybrid system functionality. SunStar Charge Controller - 45A/60A True commercial grade PWM (pulse width modulated) solar charge controllers, rated at either 45A or 60A. Multiple units can also be "stacked" up to a maximum of 10 units for extra capacity. Can be linked to the models via the CombiNet system for centralised control and monitoring through the Combi inverter-charger. SunStar controllers can also be configured as a diversion load controller, which is particularly handy for use with wind turbine generators. SunStar MPPT Charge Controller - 50A High grade maximum power point tracking (MPPT) solar charge controller for maximum battery charging efficiency, providing over 96% efficiency. Multiple units can be stacked for increased capacity up to a maximum of 16 units. With MPPT conversion technology, the solar panel array can have a nominal voltage higher than the battery charge voltage, reducing the size of DC cabling required on the solar array. Also features programmable relays outputs and a multitude of other features. Invertek DC-DC Isolator - 140A Inverter-Charger Features CombiPlus SuperCombi Intelligent Grid & Generator Power Management ATS Uninterrupted AC Transfer Switch Power Output Rated To 70ºc 2-Phase And 3-Phase Capability Stackable For More Power Power Support Feature Dynamic Power Shifting 4-Stage Adaptive Charging System Charging Control (Accessories Required) Full Remote System Control (Accessories Required) Auto Generator Start Function Aux. Systems and Accessories Remote Control Panel In most installations, the Combi inverter and battery bank will be installed in a shed, garage, or other location outside the main home/ building, where it is inconvenient to view the current status of the power system. By using the remote control panel, a complete replica of the front panel of the SuperCombi or CombiPlus can be installed in a more convenient location inside the property, giving full control and monitoring without having to venture out to wherever the Combi unit is installed. Battery Temperature Sensor An absolute must for any installation, and cheap insurance against damage to the very expensive battery bank. Installing the battery temp sensor tells the Combi what temperature the battery is operating at, so that the Combi can adjust charging voltage and current accordingly, to avoid permanent damage to the batteries. Batteries do get hot under heave loads, so it is important to adjust charging accordingly. Parallel and Multi-Phase Stacking Hubs When wanting to stack multiple units together for extra power or multi-phase output, you will need these stacking hubs. One is for parallel stacking for boosting power, and the other is for providing multiple-phase AC output. CombiNet Data Leads The data cable required to link a inverter with other accessory products on the CombiNet link. A 10-core cable with RJ50 connectors, not to be confused with a normal Cat5 data lead. Available in various lengths.
