Frekote Adjustable Spray Applicator 6 Extension 98183 12 Extension 98184 24 Extension 98185 EQUIPMENT Operation Manual
1 Please Observe The Following 1.1 Emphasized Sections Warning! Refers to safety regulations and requires safety measures that protect the operator or other persons from injury. Notice Gives recommendations for better handling of the unit during operation or adjustment as well as for service activities. 1.2 For Your Safety For safe and successful operation of the unit, read these instructions completely. If the instructions are not observed, the manufacturer can assume no responsibility. Always wear goggles when operating with pressurized air. Observe general safety regulations for the handling of chemicals such as Loctite s Frekote Mold Releases. Observe the manufacturer s instructions as stated in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). While under warranty, the unit may be repaired only by an authorized Loctite service representative. 1.3 Unpacking and Inspection Carefully unpack the applicator and examine the items contained in the carton. Inspect the applicator for any damage that might have occurred in transit. If such damage has occurred, notify the carrier immediately. Claims for damage must be made by the consignee to the carrier and should be reported to the manufacturer. 1.4 Items supplied Frekote Adjustable Spray Applicator Operating Manual 1.5 Features 1.6 Usage Adjustable fluid volume 6, 12 or 24 Extension Lightweight 90 Degree Aircap The Frekote Adjustable Spray Applicators are specifically designed for applying Frekote mold release agents in many industrial-molding operations. These durable spray applicators have a forged aluminum
body, a stainless steel needle and extension. They feature a variable fluid adjustment, for higher volume release agent applications. Three extension lengths, 6, 12 and 24, are offered for increased reach. All applicators come standard with a 90 air cap. 0 and dual 90 air caps are offered as optional accessories. 2 Description 2.1 Operating Elements 2.2 Theory of Operations The spray applicator requires two connections: pressurized air and pressurized fluid. The pressurized air and fluid are directed throughout the gun via two separate channels up to the tip of the gun. At this point, when the trigger is pulled, the air atomizes the fluid and a spray pattern exits the applicator. The amount of fluid can be adjusted using the fluid adjustment knob located above the handle. The distance the spray head of the gun is from the surface to be coated determines the width of the pattern. 3 Technical Data Approximate Weight 11 oz., 17 oz. or 24 oz. Release Agent Consumption Recommended minimum air pressure Maximum air pressure Adjustable (10ml - 420 ml/minute) 10 psi 45 psi 4 Installation Connect air hose from the pressure pot regulator to air inlet at bottom of handle. Keep connections tight. Any leakage of air will impair operation of Spray Gun and waste air pressure. Connect fluid hose to the fluid outlet of pressure pot. Connect opposite end of fluid hose to the fluid inlet on applicator. Connect clean, dry air supply to pressure pot. 4.1 Adjusting Spray Quantity Set pressure pot regulator at 10 psi. Grip the Frekote Adjustable Spray Applicator like a pistol, placing two fingers on the trigger. The first one-quarter pull releases air only, this can be used for cleaning and dusting surfaces before applying mold release. Continued pull on the trigger opens the fluid needle and a full wide fan pattern can be achieved. To control the volume of fluid flow use the adjustment knob, located at the back of the applicator. Rotate knob clockwise to decrease flow and counterclockwise to increase flow. Begin spraying with as light a coat as possible. Take long strokes from side to side, releasing trigger at the end of each stroke to avoid over spray. Check to make sure each stroke overlaps slightly to insure proper release agent coverage. Hold the Spray Applicator approximately 8 to 14 from the surface. To obtain a wider spray, pull trigger back while gradually drawing the head of the gun away from surface until desired width of pattern is reached. 5 Maintenance The Frekote Adjustable Spray Applicators are designed to require little to no maintenance. With proper care and cleaning the Frekote Adjustable Spray Applicators will deliver dependable and consistent performance. 5.1 Cleaning The Frekote Adjustable Spray Applicators should be cleaned after every use or on a daily basis. Cleaning is easily accomplished by purging the system with water. Remove lid from reservoir Remove Frekote product from reservoir Fill reservoir with water (approximately ½ gallon of water) Replace pressure pot lid Allow water to pass through the system When water runs clear disconnect water and dry internal parts by allowing pressurized air to pass through applicator Notice: Dispose of contaminated water in accordance to State and Federal regulations.
