For a complete wiring diagram, refer to Wiring Information. Theory of Operation http://dh.identifix.com/searchfixes/index?roid=136882799&vid=2377948&vsm=1&locationid=2#kw=b1c2d+b1c29&soption=1&vetid=1&stmode=1&p 2/7

When powered, the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) sends a test current to the squibs to verify the integrity of the squib and wiring. These circuits are maintained in a floating" configuration at the module (connected to neither power nor ground) as protection against inadvertent deployment. Use of the SRS Load Tool 8443A in the tests below substitutes a suspect squib with a known good component. The use of the SRS Load Tool Adapter provides a test point as well as a method for opening the shorting bar connections within the harness connector. When Monitored: The ORC sends out a 40 ma diagnostic current on each squib voltage supply circuit at power up and every 500 ms thereafter while the ignition is on. Set Condition: This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) sets when the ORC detects an open or high resistance on the squib circuit for more than 2.5 seconds. This DTC transitions from active to stored when the ORC sees a recovery from an open condition for greater than 2.5 seconds. (R5) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 2 CIRCUIT OPEN (R7) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 1 CIRCUIT OPEN LEFT SEAT AIRBAG OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) Possible Causes Always perform the Pre Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 28 DTC Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) Standard Procedure). Diagnostic Test 1.DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC NOTE: Make sure that the battery is fully charged. 1. Turn the ignition on. Select ACTIVE or STORED DTC: ACTIVE DTC Go To 2 STORED DTC Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. (Refer to 28 DTC Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) Standard Procedure). 2.CHECK FOR OPEN LEFT SEAT AIRBAG SQUIB CIRCUITS IN THE SEAT BACK 1. Disconnect the Left Seat Airbag in line harness connector (under Left Seat). NOTE: Check connectors Clean and repair as necessary. 2. Connect the SRS Load Tool 8443A and the SRS Load Tool Jumper 8443 52 or appropriate load tool jumper to the Left Seat Airbag inline harness connector. 3. If equipped with the standard key ignition, use this ignition on warning. WARNING: Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12 volt battery and http://dh.identifix.com/searchfixes/index?roid=136882799&vid=2377948&vsm=1&locationid=2#kw=b1c2d+b1c29&soption=1&vetid=1&stmode=1&p 3/7

4. If equipped with the keyless ignition, use this ignition on warning. WARNING: Disconnect the 12 volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12 volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow 5. With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs. Does the scan tool display: B1C29 LEFT SIDE SEAT THORAX SQUIB 1 OPEN? Go To 3 Go To 6 3.CHECK FOR OPEN (R5) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 2 CIRCUIT AND (R7) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 1 CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE DRIVER SEAT ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR AND THE ORC 1. Keep the in line component harness connector (C353) disconnected. 2. Disconnect the Driver Seat Assembly harness connector. NOTE: Check the connectors Clean and repair as necessary. 3. Connect the 32 Way Adapter 8443 24 to the ORC connectors. 4. Measure the resistance of the (R5) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 2 circuit between the appropriate terminal of the driver seat assembly and the appropriate terminal of the 32 Way Adapter 8443 24 for an open. 5. Measure the resistance of the (R7) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 1 circuit between the appropriate terminal of the driver seat assembly and the appropriate terminal of the 32 Way Adapter 8443 24 for an open. Is the resistance for either circuit below 1.0 Ohm? Go To 4 Repair or Replace the (R5) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 2 circuit or (R7) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 1 circuit for an open or high resistance between the driver seat assembly and the ORC in accordance with the Service Information. Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 DTC Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) Standard Procedure). 4.CHECK FOR OPEN (R5) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 2 CIRCUIT AND (R7) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 1 CIRCUIT IN THE BODY HARNESS TO THE SEAT BETWEEN THE APPLICABLE INLINE HARNESS http://dh.identifix.com/searchfixes/index?roid=136882799&vid=2377948&vsm=1&locationid=2#kw=b1c2d+b1c29&soption=1&vetid=1&stmode=1&p 4/7

CONNECTOR AND THE ORC CONNECTOR 1. Reconnect the Driver Seat Assembly harness connector. 2. Measure the resistance of the (R5) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 2 circuit between the appropriate terminal of the 32 Way Adapter 8443 24 and the appropriate terminal of the in line harness connector. 3. Measure the resistance of the (R7) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 1 circuit between the appropriate terminal of the 32 Way Adapter 8443 24 and the appropriate terminal of the in line harness connector. Is the resistance for either circuit below 1.0 Ohm? Go To 5 Repair or Replace the (R5) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 2 circuit or (R7) Left Seat Squib 1 Line 1 circuit for an open or high resistance in accordance with Service Information. Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 DTC Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) Standard Procedure). 5.CHECK FOR OPEN (R5) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 2 CIRCUIT AND (R7) LEFT SEAT SQUIB 1 LINE 1 CIRCUIT IN THE COMPONENT HARNESS TO THE LEFT SEAT THORAX AIRBAG 1. Disconnect the SRS Load Tool 8443A and the SRS Load Tool Jumper 8443 52 from the in line harness connector. 2. Disconnect the ORC connectors. NOTE: Check the connectors Clean and repair as necessary. 3.
