A Tradition of Innovation Product Information YSX40E All Electric Yard Crane Spreader 20 30 40 Load combinations with YSX40E Bromma telescopic spreader YSX40E for yard cranes is an all-electric mid-range spreader with a mechanical structure calculated for two million cycles. The spreader is as standard equipped with 4 x 10 metric tons lifting lugs in the corners of the end beams for heavy lifts and for handling damaged containers. The spreader consists of a rectangular frame construction enabling easy location on containers. The spreader can adjust its length to lift 20ft, 30ft (option) and 40ft containers using ISO floating twistlocks. The all-electric spreader reduces power consumption to approximately 1/10 of a hydraulic spreader. The electrical motors only consume electricity when an operation is performed. The electrical equipment and the cable chain system are well protected in the main frame. All motions of the spreader are controlled from the driver s cab and there are provisions made for signals in the cab The spreader shown is customized with extra equipment indicating the position of the twistlocks and landing pin status. Made of high quality European steel, the YSX40E spreader provides high lifting capacity with a low nominal tare weight thanks to the box design of the telescoping arms and the main frame. It is designed in accordance to EN 13001. All components can be easily assembled, adjusted, removed and are accessible for inspection and maintenance. YSX40E is a silent alternative for most applications, particularly in environmentally sensitive terminals. Removing the hydraulics also reduces the risk of hydraulic leakage in the terminal. The spreader can be equipped with the SCS 4 Spreader Control System, reducing and preventing downtime through improvements in the area of electrical connections. It will also shorten downtime through faster spreader fault diagnostics. Major Features 90% reduction of power consumption (compared to a hydraulic spreader) High reliability with all-electric function Stops accurately in all positions Silent and environmental friendly Durable and strong despite low weight Easy to maintain and long service intervals Fulfils design criteria for EN 13001, DIN 15018 H 2 B 4, FEM 1.001 and British Standard BS 2573
Telescoping System Shock absorber Endless chain Tension rod Pedestal bearing Tension rod The endless chain is fitted with a Bromma design shock absorber at both ends. The shock absorber is designed to dampen the effects of impact on the spreader structure and components due to loads imposed to the spreader ends. The telescoping system s ability of absorbing extreme loads mechanically provides the end user with a highly reliable spreader with increased life even under extreme load conditions. Electric motor/gearbox The flexibility in the system allows for changes in spreader length up to ±15 mm when handling distorted containers. The telescoping system is driven by means of an electric motor and a purpose designed reduction gearbox connected to an endless chain. The motor/gearbox is equipped with a friction clutch protecting against excessive outer forces. This system is durable, strong and has low weight; is easy to maintain and has long service intervals. The telescoping positions are controlled by proximity sensors (an absolute encoder placed on the pedestal bearing is available as an option when SCS 4 is used). Twistlock System locked position unlocked position Draw bars unlocked position locked position Helical-worm geared motor Twistlock arm Proximity switch for landing pin Blocking key Blocking stop Landing pin Twistlock The spreader is latched onto containers by electrically operated floating ISO twistlocks. The twistlocks are operated in pairs by a fixed linkage and switches are used for locking, unlocking and landing pin functions. The twistlock motor is of compact and robust design with built-in mechanical stop. The floating range is ±6 mm in all directions. Each twistlock will incorporate a mechanical interlock to prohibit unlock operation when under load. The twistlock pins are proof load tested to 40 metric ton. LED-type signal lamps are placed on each end of the spreader s main frame (optional), showing the driver when: a) the twistlocks are open, b) the spreader is properly engaged in the corner castings, c) all twistlocks are properly locked in the corner castings. Corresponding signals are provided to the crane cabin. 2
Guide Arms This enhances the possibility of monitoring each I/O point and reduces the number of cables needed and the replacement time for connecting sensors and actuators to the controls. CANopen box For reliability reasons Bromma recommends the use of 24 V DC on all controls. The spreader is equipped with four fixed guide arms to guide the spreader onto the container. These are located one at each end of the long side of the spreader. The guide arms are fastened by means of bolts and nuts and a bar that fits to a slot in the end beam. The bar prevents the bolts from shearing off in case of heavy landings. Several guide arm combinations are available. Electrical System The electrical safety features to protect and ensure proper handling of containers are as follows: Spreader cannot be hoisted unless all four twistlocks are fully Locked or Unlocked (provided the crane controls have a hoist permit safety circuit.) Spreader twistlocks can only be Locked or Unlocked when all four corners are properly seated on a container or hatch cover. The main electric cabinet is mounted on heavy-duty rubber shock absorbers and is well protected on or within the mainframe. The actual position depends on the head block design. Junction boxes are placed at the end beams. Proximity switches control the positioning of the telescoping (an absolute encoder placed on the pedestal bearing is available as an option when SCS 4 is used). The electrical components are mounted in a stainless steel cabinet, IP66. All cables are well-protected in cable chains. The power required to operate the spreader s electrical components is obtained from the crane. All electrical components on the spreader are designed to withstand loads imposed during container handling operations and suitable for a marine environment. The spreader can optionally be equipped with CANopen slave units. 3
Monitoring and Diagnostic System SCS 4 For monitoring and diagnosing, the YSX40E can be equipped with the SCS 4 Spreader Control System (option). The SCS 4 can communicate with host controllers by a wide variety of protocols. The rugged SCS 4 control unit is equipped with a bright touch screen and mounted on the spreader for easy access. Monitoring and diagnostics can be available in different ways; on the screen, on the crane, through a web interface via an external PC, a handheld computer or via Bromma Greenzone applications. The SCS 4 system delivers advanced monitoring and diagnostic information, which means that service staff can react faster to fault events. Instead of investigating possible sources of fault events one by one, the SCS 4 gives service technicians specific, precise information, enabling them to quickly solve the problems occurred. The SCS 4 system simplifies handling of the spreader and prevents fault events. It also eliminates or minimizes junction boxes, terminal strips, and relays areas where wire breakage is common. Other than that, conventional wiring is also reduced. The SCS 4 user interface is intuitive and extremely easy to use. The system also includes complete manuals for the spreader. The backup memory and battery are placed outside the unit and are easy to replace. 4
