Service Bulletin 14-009 February 13, 2014 ATB 50862 (1402) Driver s Seat Heater Shuts Off After Turning On AFFECTED VEHICLES Year Model Trim VIN Range 2011 13 Odyssey EX-L, Touring ALL SYMPTOM The driver s seat heater turns off by itself within seconds of being turned on. POSSIBLE CAUSES An open circuit caused by a broken seat-back heater element causes the seat heater to shut off. CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the seat-back heater element. PARTS INFORMATION Part Name Part Number Quantity Trim Fastener C-Clip Set (30 pieces) 04810-SB3-000 1 Seat- Back Heater Kit 81524-TK8-305 1 WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION The normal warranty applies Operation Number Description Flat rate Time Template ID Failed Part Number 8590A2 Replace the seat-back heater element. 1.2 hours 14-009A P/N 81524-TK8-A41 Defect Code: 03217 Symptom Code: 03220 Skill Level: Repair Technician DIAGNOSIS 1. Disconnect the driver s seat cushion heater 5-pin connector under the driver s seat. 2. Check for continuity between terminal 1 (blue wire) on the female side of the connector and body ground. If there is continuity, this bulletin does not apply. Continue with normal troubleshooting. If there is no continuity, replace the driver s seat-back heater. Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE NOTE: Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before removing the seat. 1. Remove the driver s seat. Remove the covers. Remove the bolts. Disconnect the connectors. Remove the head restraint. 2. Remove the driver s seat-back cover. 3. Carefully remove the seat-back heater from the seat-back pad. NOTE: The seat-back heater is glued to the seat-back pad. When removing it, take care not to damage the seat-back pad. 4. Use a heat gun to gradually apply heat and carefully peel the heater from the pad. NOTE: Excessive heat will damage the seat pad.

5. Use the notches cut into the bridge material to properly align each section of the new seat heater on the seat-back pad. 6. Position the notches on the radius of the pad as shown. NOTE: The bridges between the center and lower sections of the new seat heater pad are shorter than the bridges on the original part. Make sure you modify the lower trench tie-down cord or you may damage the new seat heater.

7. Mark the lower trench tie-down cord as shown. You will need to modify the lower trench tie-down cord before reinstalling the seat cover to accommodate the new seat heater pad. 8. Use diagonal cutters to cut and remove two 50 mm x 20 mm sections of material. 9. Install the hanger clips at the locations as shown. NOTE: The clips will be used instead of upholstery rings to reattach the seat-back cover in these locations.

10. Install the cover in the reverse order of removal. Fasten the seat-back cover to the pad with new upholstery rings, with the exception of the three locations on the lower trench tie-down cord. At these locations, hook the hanger clips to the pad as shown. Note the following items: If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones. To prevent wrinkles when installing the seat-back cover, make sure the material is stretched evenly over the pad before securing the clips, the hooks, and the strips. Before installing the seat-back cover, make sure the airbag attachment wires are installed in the reinforcing cloths correctly. Install the head restraint. Reinstall airbag attachment wires securely to the seat-back frame as shown. Make sure the side airbag harness and the seat wire harnesses are routed properly. Push the clips and the hooks into place securely.

11. Reinstall the seat and tighten the bolts by hand. Slide the seat all the way back and torque seat mounting bolts 1 and 2 to 47 N m (35 lb-ft), then slide the seat forward and torque bolts 3 and 4 to 47 N m (35 lb-ft). If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones. Make sure each connector is plugged in properly. Push the clips and hooks into place securely. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.
