Local manufacturing at Siemens Power Generation Services Mechanical Drives Specialising in the production of turbo-machinery, the manufacturing of spare parts for various industry machinery and power stations, as well as servicing. Specialising in the production of geared motors, industrial geared units and couplings as well as the servicing of industrial mechanical drives. Power Transmission and Distribution Rail Automation and Traffic Management Systems Specialising in the manufacturing of low and medium voltage switchgear and the development of solutions for power transmission. Specialising in the engineering and supply of high quality Railway signaling and Road traffic management controllers.

Northriding Facility Power Transmission and Distribution, Rail Automation and Traffic Control Projects The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) commissioned Siemens with the construction of a new Gauteng Nerve Centre for centralised rail traffic management including the delivery of several modernised electronic interlocking signaling systems throughout the Gauteng Rail Corridor. Adding value to local economy: - Siemens works with local suppliers to produce the points machine rodding.

Power Generation Services Projects Siemens conducted inspections at Ankerlig and Gourikwa and performed planned outages at Kendal Unit 3, Camden Unit 6 and the Sasol 60MW Project.

Isando Facility Mechanical Drives Projects Siemens engineered and supplied 13 Conveyor Power Packs to the Exxaro Backfill Project. The scope of supply included Siemens IE2 Electric Motors, flexible high speed Couplings, Flender Bevel Helical Gear units, rigid flange coupling and customer specific base plates.

Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Skills development and job creation Meeting our social responsibilities is not viewed as a separate business activity but is totally integrated into our company s sustainability strategy. Our commitment to South Africa has been characterised by more than just the provision of infrastructure that has helped grow the economy; our conduct has always been characterised by responsible behaviour and a desire to see and contribute towards a sustainable social upliftment. Today, Siemens has a 30% BEE shareholding, with 15% being owned by Sekunjalo Investment Holdings and 15% owned by the Siemens Employee Share Ownership Trust. We are proud to be implementing various skills development and educational programmes that are well aligned with the government s priorities of developing the skills the country needs and creating jobs for more South Africans. Lephalale FET College The Limpopo based Lephalale FET College attracts a student body of which 25% are female and more than 80% are black. Siemens relationship with the college commenced in 2007, as part of its pledge to invest R20 million between 2007 and 2012 through its Technical Artisan Skills Development Investment. Funds have been used to upgrade facilities like equipping eight training workshops to facilitate the training of electrical, fitting, turning, welding and sheet metalworking, as well as one IT training lab. SAJ Artisan Training Institute Siemens support of the SAJ Artisan Training Institute, a 50% black owned SME is also linked to the Technical Artisan Skills Development Investment. Funding from Siemens has enabled the Institute to establish and equip a 600 square meter training workshop, which is used to train students in electrical, fitting, turning, welding, boilermaking and pipefitting. SAJ s student body is predominantly black, with these students accounting for as much as 90% of all college goers.

Innovation in education The Mandela School of Science and Technology The Mandela School of Science and Technology is a collaborative effort between Siemens and the Department of Education. At capacity, the school will provide valuable secondary education to about 700 young learners and has started making a valuable impact to the lives of the families living in the village and surrounding areas. The inspirational global icon, Nelson Mandela, once said Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Engineering is one of the scarce skills in South Africa and around the world. It s a skill that should be cultivated in children from an early age. Increasing the appreciation of science, mathematics and technology amongst children is perhaps one of the most meaningful ways we can prepare the youth of today to change the world of tomorrow. Using innovative and sustainable solutions Siemens will create an environment for learners to develop the necessary skills to enter the workplace and contribute to South Africa s economic development. The project was underpinned by three core pillars: skills development, sustainability and local commitment.

Branches and permanent establishments in Southern and Eastern Africa Major projects Kenya Siemens Designed, Supplied, Installed and commissioned 2 x 10 MVa 66/11 Kv New substation located in Mai Mahiu town, on Mai Mahiu Naivasha road for Kenya Power & Lighting Company(KPLC) Tanzania Siemens supplied three SGT-800 industrial gas turbines with a combined capacity of 100MW to the Ubungo power plant located in Dar es Salaam. Zambia Siemens supplied and commissioned 4 of Kalumbila Minerals gearless mill drives to their Sentinel copper mine located near Solwezi. Mozambique Siemens is currently Engineering and Commissioning the Main Substation 110/22kV and Reticulation of Five Secondary Substations 22/3,3/0,4kV including E-houses as well as the port Area Lighting for the PROJETO MOATIZE EXPANSÃO - NACALA PORTO Ghana Siemens supplied 3 x SGT-300 and 2 x SGT- 400 gas turbines with a total capacity of 50 MW to Atholl Energy for the Tema Thermal 2 Power Plant. In 2015, the existing plant will be extended with another SGT-300 and 2 x SGT-400 to increase the overall capacity to 84 MW.
