Monthly Electrical Energy Overview uary 215 The return to close to normal weather conditions, as opposed to the exceptionally warm uary 214, led to a rise in gross internal electricity demand. This rise was accompanied by a high-level of fossil fuel generation and an increase in the import balance with Germany The peak demand reached on 26 uary at 7. pm, with a power output 86,3 MW, was higher than the peak demand observed through the whole of 214. Monthly nuclear generation reached its highest level in four years, whilst the monthly fossil-fuel generation was 5% higher than that in uary 214. Peak wind power production was reached on 9 uary at 9. pm with a power output of 7,462 MW and a load factor of 82%, the highest level ever recorded until now. France was an exporter at all times in uary 215. The import balance with Germany reached its highest level for more than a year. Four structures were put into service on the RTE network in uary 215: three means of compensation and a 63 kv underground cable. Monthly Overview - uary 215 2

Monthly Electrical Energy Overview uary 215 CONSUMPTION Temperatures in uary 215 remained close to normal, as opposed to uary 214 which was particularly warm. As a result, gross electricity demand increased by 6.2%. Corrected by the climate factor, total demand accentuates the trend observed in 214, which is a slight decrease caused by the drop in demand from SMEs/SMIs and business and domestic users, and this is despite the continuing recovery of the heavy industry sector. Peak demand was recorded on 26 uary 215 at 7. pm, with a power output of 86,343 MW for a temperature of 2. C, 3 C lower compared to normal temperatures. This peak demand was higher than the peak demand observed throughout the whole of 214. GENERATION The nuclear sector reached its highest monthly generation level for four years. The generation of renewable energy, all sectors combined, was down compared to uary 214. This drop is due to the hydroelectric sector. On the other hand, generation in the wind and PV sectors increased. Generation in the fossil fuel sector increased by more than 5% compared to uary 214, due to the rise in demand and peak level demand at 7. pm, combined with a lower availability in the hydroelectric sector. WIND AND PV On 9 uary 215, a historic high for wind power generation was reached at 9. pm with a power output of 7,462 MW and a load factor of 82.3%. Monthly wind power generation exceeded 3, MW in average monthly power output, as in uary 214. Monthly PV generation increased by 47% compared to uary 214, thanks to an increase in the number of generation facilities and also to the favourable sunny conditions INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGES In uary, France s exchange balance with its European neighbours was as an exporter throughout the whole month The gradual return to normal of the Belgian nuclear generation facilities has led to a reduction in the exchange balance with Belgium compared to the monthly levels observed during 214. The export exchange balance with Great Britain remained higher than 1, for the third consecutive month. The import exchange balance with Germany reached its highest level since ember 213, because of the rise in demand in France. NETWORK DEVELOPMENT Four facilities were put into service in uary 215. Two 4 kv as well as one 225 kv shunt reactances were put into service in order to improve the security of operation in the Paris, Bordeaux and Nord regions. Finally, a 63 kv cable was put into service in Picardy in order to improve the region s carrying capacity for wind power generation.
