This commitment applies to all Komatsu Australia business activities, including; branches, worksites, products and services. We have implemented a number of environmentally conscious procedures and processes; from equipping our service vehicles with capabilities to remove and dispose of used oil and other waste products, right through to the implementation of a water harvesting facility in our Brisbane Headquarters. The World s First Hybrid Excavator Komatsu s innovative Hybrid Excavator system, released in Australia in 2011, has been awarded the prestigious s JSME Medal for New Technology from the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers. The Komatsu hybrid system reduces fuel consumption and CO² emissions through the use of an Ultra-Capacitor, r, which captures kinetic energy when braking. The upper structure s slew motion then reuses that energy to assist the next slew cycle, as well as delivering power to the engine. The end result is fuel savings of 25-40% and CO² emissions depending on application. Outline of Komatsu Hybrid System Hybrid Turning of the upper structure Electric power assistance during engine acceleration What are the advatages for your operation? Significantly lower fuel bills Electric motor to turn the upper structure INVERTER Power generation motor (engine) Reduced carbon taxes as Carbon Polution Reduction scheme comes into operation Recovers energy when turning slows down during loading operation Utilises electricity charged from the capacitor when the engine accelerates Lower engine wear and tear (as diesel engines do not have to work so hard) Increased productivity CAPACITOR Efficiently and insantaneously stores and discharges electric energy Increased customer demand for suppliers to use more fuel-efficient or lo-carbon equipment Bio Fuel Komatsu is working in a joint venture in Indonesia to develop Bio Deisel fuelled dump trucks. The source for this fuel is the non food source plant, Jatophra, which grows faster than alternative Bio-Fuel sources and can be cultivated in less fertile soil. Jatophra Bio-Diesel is also better suited to warm weather climates such as Australia. 6 Komatsu estimates that 1,000 bio-fuel powered dump trucks will cut 200,000 tonnes of CO² emissions per year, equivalent to the carbon emissions generated by the company s factories in Japan.

TECHNOLOGY Komatsu invests almost $AUD1.7 million everyday, on Research & Development to ensure we deliver the best products and solutions. Research & Development (R&D) Komatsu is actively engaged in research and development activities for new technologies, new products and new services, consistent with our commitment to provide Quality and Reliability. With an annual investment in R&D of over $AUD620 million our focus is on safety, productivity and the environment. Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) Komatsu is the first manufacturer in the world to commercialise Autonomous Haulage Systems in the mining industry. Each autonomous Dump Truck is equipped with vehicle controllers, a highprecision GPS system, an obstacle detection system and a wireless network system. These features allow the Dump Truck to safely operate in a complex load, haul and dump cycle, and to integrate with the Dozers, Loaders and Shovels that are also part of the autonomous system. AHS also delivers significant environmental benefits such reduced fuel consumption and emissions, as well as increased tyre life. Machine Tracking Software (KOMTRAX ) KOMTRAX is Komatsu s technologically advanced satellite monitoring system that helps you keep track of your Komatsu equipment. Consider these features and benefits: Fleet Management - Improve your fleet utilisation Machine Location - Know exactly the whereabouts of your machines Work Monitoring - Know exactly what your machine is doing Security - Know whether your machine is safe Machine Performance Know whether your machine requires service or maintenance 7
