a 22 August 2017 SUBJECT: TRAFFIC PATTERNS AND CARPOOL DIRECTIONS PLEASE READ THIS IN ITS ENTIRETY, PRINT, and keep with you in your car. Dear Parents: Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! This document will give you instructions to our morning and afternoon traffic patterns. With many new students and parents to SWA, I am asking you to please be patient for the first few weeks. Our number one objective is SAFETY not SPEED as we maneuver the traffic flow on campus. We know that the first few days will take longer, as we all learn procedures and the best times to arrive/depart. Please be patient. Thank you! GRADE LEVEL BUILDING ASSIGNMENTS FOR STUDENTS: Grade 6 and 7: Building 1 and 2 (first two modulars building past the entrance) Grades 8-12: Building 3 and 4 CAMPUS DRIVING GUIDE Driving guidelines are designed for SAFETY, not speed or driver convenience. SPEED LIMIT: 7 MPH! If you are in a hurry, arrive sooner! NO PASSING within the campus driveway/parking areas except as directed by staff NO U-TURNS in the parking area/driveway NO TEXTING while driving on campus NO TOBACCO USE anywhere on campus RIGHT TURN ONLY out of the campus if there are cars behind you or others attempting to enter the driveway. Right turn only helps to prevent a long line to exit. PICK UP ONLY IN OUR PARKING LOT. The FVPD has advised not to allow pick up along Old Powell Road or in nearby neighborhoods as that practice poses a hazard to students and vehicle occupants along the roads and away from campus. VISITORS PARKING Building 1 : You may park in the spaces on the pond side of the parking lot. No parking in the spaces in front of or on the upper end of Building 1. Building 4 : Visitors spaces are marked on the pond side of the new parking lot. Please use those spaces as others will be assigned to students or staff. STAFF ONLY parking has been designated.

NO STUDENT DROP-OFF ON Kelly Creek Drive. All students are to enter the campus from the Old Powell Road entrance only. GENERAL TRAFFIC FLOW : Our primary traffic flow is as follows: INNER LOOP (6 th and 7 th GRADE) and OUTER LOOP (8 th 12 th Grades plus those who have BOTH 6 th Grade or 7 th grade AND 8 th -12 th Grade students Upon entering the driveway at the corner of Building 1, traffic will separate into two lanes: Right lane - OUTER LOOP: 8 th 12 th Grade traffic. Please stay in the right lane of traffic until you return to the main exit area of the school (near Old Powell Road). Left lane - INNER LOOP: 6 th and 7 th Grade traffic. Please stay in the left lane of traffic until you return to the main exit area of the school (near Old Powell Road). NOTE: If you have a 6 th Grade or 7 th grade student AND a student in Grades 8-12, you are to follow the directions for Grades 7-12 OUTER LOOP MORNING ARRIVAL : Grade 6 ONLY : Please let us know as you enter the driveway what GRADE you are by placing an 8.5 x 11 sign on the inside of your windshield with the numbers PRINTED in RED if you can print in color! (Please write your rider(s) name(s) and ID given by PikMyKid on the other side for the afternoon, this will need to be used for the first few days until the PikMyKid program goes completely live on August 28 th with parents announcing they have arrived on their smartphone app. Unloading Area : Drivers will enter the left lane (INNER LOOP) of traffic, proceed past Building 1, and circle at the cone area and drive into the unloading area (parking lot) across from Building 1. With staff assistance, students will walk across the driveway at the CROSSWALK AREA ONLY.. Departure Route: Drivers who have dropped off 6 th and 7 th Grade students ( Building 1 and 2 ) need to keep left in the INNER LOOP while moving toward the main exit and merge with the Outer Loop traffic as you proceed to Old Powell Road. Grades 8-12 : Grades 8-12 students are to be dropped off in the area near the brick building. No exceptions. Please let us know as you enter the driveway what GRADE you are by placing an 8.5 x 11 sign on your windshield with the numbers 8-12 PRINTED in BLUE or BLACK ink. Unloading Area : Please stay in the right lane ( OUTER LOOP ); proceed to the unloading zone that is designated with diagonal paint along the right side of the driveway beyond Building 2

through the circle in front of Building 4. Please move forward before discharging riders to allow as many cars as possible in the driveway. We will mark the drop-off area also with ORANGE cones. Departure Route: Once you have discharged riders, please follow directional arrows to exit the campus, staying in the RIGHT LANE OUTER LOOP until you are past Building 1. If you need to park, please use designated Visitors parking areas. Grade 6 th and 7 th and Grades 8-12 : If you have a 6 th Grade or 7 th Grade student plus another student in Grades 8-12, please unload in the area designated for Grades 8-12. The 6 th and 7 th Grade students may walk on the sidewalk back to Building 1.or 2 Staff will be on site to supervise students. Student Parking : Students who drive will be assigned parking spaces. All student drivers must register their vehicles and be assigned an individual space. There is NO UNASSIGNED STUDENT PARKING on campus. AFTERNOON Afternoon dismissal will be a challenge for all of us with many new students. Please help us with your patience and safe movements in the campus driving/parking areas. Thank you! NOTE: I can t stress this enough, I need 100% participation with PikMyKid in order for carpool to run smoothly and effectively! Please follow the tutorial vidoes and steps to register your kid in the PikMyKid Program. Please make sure you know their 3 or 4 digit student number that is unique to them. For the first few days please place that number on your dash written large enough for the staff to see it. If you have already downloaded the app and are familiar with how the system works, you can go ahead and announce your arrival at the designated spot. ALL students will be kept in their last period class until they are notified that their ride have arrived. If a student drives or walks they will be dismissed at 2:35. REMEMBER, this is for your child s safety and security that we use this program! *Reinforce with your child to watch/look for you. By the time you are in the loading area, your child should be waiting. *Move to the right lane on Old Powell to allow non-swa drivers to pass safely to your left. *Turn on your flashers *Keep close to the vehicle in front of you while in line. *Please follow the directions of staff to enhance safety and to expedite traffic flow. We know it will take longer on the first few days. *When you exit the campus, please observe RIGHT TURNS ONLY. Thank you! *Within a few days, our goal is to have the afternoon carpool time under 20 minutes.

Grade 6 and 7 ONLY If you have 6 th Grade and 7 th Grade, you will follow the INNER LOOP in front of Building 1. Move to the left lane (INNER LOOP) and proceed to the turn-around area. The loading area will begin in front of Building 1. Please wait for your child to find you and stay in line. Once you enter the inner loop please announce your arrival through the PikMyKid app. The first few days please write your child s name along with the 3 or 4 digit number assigned by PikMyKid on a piece of paper big enough to be read. We will assist students with the loading process using two areas to cross traffic to the loading areas. One will be near Bldg 1 s office entrance and the other at the CROSSWALK area. Please wait for your child in the loading area. Do not hold up traffic flow to load your rider(s). Grades 8-12 No students from Building 4 are to walk to Building 1 during dismissal. Students in Bldg 4 will not be allowed to walk to Bldg 1 during the dismissal process. *Please minimize space between cars *The loading area is marked with diagonal lines along the right edge of the driveway and with ORANGE cones. Please use this marked area to LOAD in the afternoons. *When you have your rider(s) loaded, please follow staff directions and proceed toward the exit. Grades 6 and 7 & Grades 8-12 If you have a 6 th Grade or 7 th Grade student AND a student in Grades 8-12, please follow the procedures for Grades 8-12. *6 th and 7 th Graders riding with older students will walk to the Grades 8-12 loading area. We have grown by 30% this year and will need everyone to help with these procedures. Thank you for being courteous toward others in the carpool area and enhancing safety for ALL. Thank you for your cooperation.
