SOLAR PURCHASE PROGRAM Electrical Guide Please share this document with your electrician to ensure wiring is done correctly. Should you or your electrician have any questions, please let us know. Included In This Guide: General Requirements Metering Configurations Images of the Installed Meter Display General Requirements: Installations must meet all requirements of the Virginia Information and Requirements for Electric Service ( Blue Book ). In cases where conflicting requirements exist between this document and the Virginia Information and Requirements for Electric Service ( Blue Book ) this document shall take precedence. The customer s solar generation metering shall have the same characteristics (voltage and phasing) as the Company s electric delivery service. The solar generation metering and disconnect (where required by local ordinance or code) should be installed on the same exterior wall and within view of the existing electric delivery service meter. For the sub-meter configuration only, an Equipment Grounding Conductor may be installed through and/or connected to the generation meter base where required by local ordinance or code. The Equipment Grounding Conductor must be routed and/or secured in such a manner that it cannot come into contact with load or line terminals in the meter base. A Grounding Electrode Conductor is not to be installed in any meter base. A decal will be applied to the cover of the electric delivery meter base indicating that solar generation is interconnected at the premise. A decal will also be applied to the cover of the solar generation metering. An additional decal may also be placed inside the meter base for both meter types. All decals will be provided and applied by. Decal for Generator Meter Base Decal for Electric Delivery Generator Meter Base
Metering Configurations The Company s Solar Purchase Program requires metering capable of providing three sets of metering data in order to be able to determine both a customer s total electrical usage, and the total solar generation. A Load Profile (LP) meter at the existing electric delivery service point and installation of an additional meter base and LP meter to measure the total output of the solar generation system is required for all participants. Generated solar energy, and energy that is returned to the grid, will be captured on metering received channels, and all energy delivered to the customer will be captured on the metering delivered channels. Consequently, the solar generator should in all cases be connected to the load side terminals of the meter enclosure. The two potential metering configurations are sub-meter and second meter.
