Instruction Sheet P/N Installation Instructions for Series 3100V Low Level Indicator WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation. 1. Introduction When the adhesive level in the Series 3100V melter is low, the level indicator magnetically closes a dry reed switch that is connected to an external device. The external device can illuminate a light or trigger an alarm that warns operators that the adhesive level is low. The switch is intended for the ratings listed in Table 1. Table 1 Switch Voltage and Current Ratings Voltage Current (Resistive) 220 VAC 0.14 A 110 VAC 0.28 A 120 VDC 0.07 A 24 VDC 0.28 A The level indicator service kit consists of a float switch, shield, and terminal block. The float rides half in and half out of the adhesive. As the adhesive level drops, the float drops. When the adhesive level drops to half a tank, the switch closes and a signal is sent. Adhesive must then be added to the tank immediately. NOTE: The 3100V Low Level Indicator can only be used in conjunction with piston pumps. Do not attempt to install the indicator on a unit with an AC gear pump. 2. Preparation for Installing or Replacing the Indicator WARNING: Hot! Risk of burns. Wear heat-protective clothing, safety goggles, and heat-protective gloves. Hot melt material may be released forcefully. 1. Drain all adhesive from the tank and disconnect the main air supply. WARNING: The melter contains energized electrical components with potentials that could be fatal. Disconnect and lock out input electrical power to the melter before proceeding.
2 Installation Instructions for Series 3100V Level Switch 2. Preparation for Installing or Replacing the Indicator (contd) 2. Remove the pump cover. 3. Remove the electrical enclosure lid and the front and rear covers. 4. Remove the screws holding the pump to the tank, and remove the pump. 5. Remove the tank lid assembly. 4130817 Fig. 1 Removing the Tank Lid Assembly NOTE: For new installations, proceed to next the step. If you are replacing the level indicator, disconnect the wire leads, remove the pan-head screws securing the indicator to the pump pan, and remove the indicator. Then proceed to Installing the Level Indicator. 6. Remove the pump pan, and inspect the tank cover. If the cutout looks like the one in Figure 2, go to step 8. If not, remove the tank cover gasket, tank cover, and tank gasket and go to next step. 4131151A Fig. 2 Tank Cover

Attach the terminal block to the bracket, then connect the wires from the level indicator to positions 2 and 3 on the level indicator terminal block. 9. Install the bracket and terminal block assembly on the center frame with the self-tapping screws. NOTE: Refer to current and voltage ratings in Table 1 before connecting external devices. 10. Connect the wires from the external device to terminal positions 2 and 3, directly across from the terminal positions that were used for the level indicator.
4 Installation Instructions for Series 3100V Level Switch Installing the Level Indicator 1. Use the pan-head screws and lock washers to fasten the indicator to the pump pan. See Figure 4. 1 2 4131091B Fig. 4 Level Indicator Connected to Pump Pan 1. Screw 2. Lock washer 2. Thread the wires behind the tank and through the recess in the center frame as shown in Figure 3. If the wires are not already connected to the terminal block, attach them to positions 2 and 3. 3. Reinstall the pump and reconnect the air supply. 4. Reinstall the electrical enclosure lid, the tank lid assembly, and the front, rear, and pump covers. Restoring the System to Normal Operation 1. Remove the lockout and restore electrical power. 2. Set the pump air pressure to the normal setting. 3. Clean any debris from the tank; then fill the tank with adhesive to within 25 mm (1 in.) of the top of the tank. 4. Turn the melter on and wait for the READY light to illuminate.
