4. Description Description 4.1 Application The machine is run with single phase current, and is a combination of an internal vibrator and a frequency converter. 4.2 Functional description The power converter assembly of the transformer carries out a rectification of the input voltage. In the inverted rectifier the direct voltage is converted into three-phase alternating current, at the same time increasing the frequency from 50/60 Hz to 200 Hz. The inverted rectifier operates in "pulse-width modulation" which causes a sinusoidal output to be produced as average value which in turn allows fault-proof operation of the units connected. Due to the smooth starting of the units connected, the supply capacity of the transformer can be used completely. The power converter and the inverted rectifier are triggered by means of a control electronics unit with a micro-processor. 50/60 Hz 200 Hz Rectifier 100/115/230/ 240 V D.c.-a.c. converter Electronics Pulse width modulation Sinusoidal average T01036en.fm 13

Operation 5. Operation 5.1 Starting up Danger to life Connection: The equipment has been set to its nominal current at the factory. Hook up to single-phase alternating current with 50 or 60 Hz. Assembly instructions for the version without plug receptacle Danger of electrocution! Only a qualified electrician is permitted to assemble the plug and perform a safety check according to the directives in effect. Observe the assembly instructions! Connection: Both voltage and frequency will run up synchronously until they reach their nominal value (soft start) once the equipment has been connected to a power supply; this helps to avoid critical current intensities during start-up. The equipment is suitable for connection to power generators if the generators operating voltage stays within the limits of 230/115 V + 15 %, and if the manufacturer of the generator allows the connection of consumers equipped with capacitors. If possible choose a synchronous generator if the equipment is to be run off a power generator. T01036en.fm 14

5.2 Connection using separate extension cable Operation The required cross-section is dependent on the length of the extension cable: Type Length L m Cross-section in mm 2 38/115 < 16 1,5 < 27 2,5 < 43 4 < 65 6 38/230 < 66 1,5 < 110 2,5 < 176 4 45/115 < 12 1,5 < 20 2,5 < 32 4 < 49 6 45/230 < 50 1,5 < 83 2,5 < 132 4 57/115 < 13 2,5 < 21 4 < 32 6 < 53 10 57/230 < 33 1,5 < 55 2,5 < 88 4 57k/230 < 40 1,5 < 66 2,5 < 105 4 T01036en.fm 15

Repair instructions 7. Repair instructions Work on the electric parts of the machine may only be carried out by skilled technicians. 7.1 Repair instructions, faults The equipment may only be opened at least about 5 minutes after the plug was pulled from the socket; this will give the capacitors mounted inside the housing time to dump their charge. Maintenance work may only be carried out be trained personnel. Possible errors: Interruption of the cable connection inverter/vibrating cylinder Insulation error of the inverter, the engine cable or the vibrating cylinder Inverter is overloaded The output stage of the inverter is overloaded due to a short-circuit, ground fault or error in the vibrating cylinder Line input voltage too high / too low Operating control lamp As long as the green LED is lit, the circuit board is electrically charged - even after you switch off the line voltage. The green LED goes out when the condensers are discharged. The diagnostic lamps built into the inverter, five red LEDs and a green LED, help you troubleshoot any problems you may encounter. However, this requires, that you open the inverter housing and apply voltage. This must be carried out by a specialist or a properly instructed employee. T01036en.fm 19

Repair instructions There is a risk of injury should a condenser explode when voltage is applied and, as a result thereof, potting compound is ejected. This is why you should always wear eye protection and avoid the area right above the condensers. Before you apply voltage, always carry out a visual inspection of the opened inverter. Condensers with bulged tops or ones that are higher than the others are already damaged. You must not apply voltage to this inverter! If a red LED lights up when you turn on the machine, the machine has shut down because of a detected error. Malfunction Cause Remedy Green LED is not lit. Internal vibrator (IR) not functioning. Green and first red LED light up. IR not functioning. Green and second red LED light up. IR not functioning. Green and third red LED light up. IR not functioning. Green and fourth red LED light up. IR not functioning. Green and fifth red LED light up. IR not functioning. - Supply cable interruption. - Bad contacts. - Cable disruption between frequency converter (FU) and IR. - Defect in the FU electronics. - Short to ground inside the FU or IR. - Temperature inside FU housing. - IR runs sluggish. - Short circuit between FU and IR. - Incorrect input voltage, too high or too low. - Check supply line. - Check contact transitions (switches, connectors) and rework if necessary. - Check cables and replace if faulty. - Replace FU. - Insulation measurements at IR and FU, replace faulty components. - Measure amperages (*) on the output side. - Correct fault in IT. - Locate the short circuit by measurements and remove. - Measure voltage at the switch. - Check generator. (*) - see Technical Data T01036en.fm 20

Repair instructions A metal oxide varistor has been included in the input circuit as an additional safety for the equipment against input voltages which are too high. The varistor looks quite similar to a small plate capacitor. Its characteristics are similar to those of a Zener diode (DIN) and it has high currentcarrying capacity. Its resistance of more than 1 MΩ breaks down under extreme circumstances to less than 1 Ω in less than 50 nanoseconds when overloaded. This helps protect the electronic circuitry against high input voltages. The output frequency of 200 Hz out by means of the potentiometer. Fix the adjusting screw of the potentiometer with a drop of paint. T01036en.fm 21
