Grooved Piping Products provide several design and economic advantages when compared to welded or flanged systems. Field modifications are easily accommodated with the Grooved System as couplings and fittings can be easily rotated, eliminated and/or added to facilitate the necessary modification. ECONOMICAL Grooved couplings are the fastest method to join steel pipe. There is no need for two holing with flanges, and the potential of fire hazards is eliminated when compared to welding or brazing. RETROFIT The Grooved System method allows for quick economical changes as necessary for field retrofit, with the ability to isolate equipment and piping systems for tenant changes and system repair. Rigidity Figure 572 and 772 Rigid Grooved Couplings are ideally suited for valve and fitting connections, long runs, and risers where pipe movement is undesirable. Rigid couplings provide for joints which are comparable to pipe jointing such as welding and flanging. ALIGNMENT Every grooved coupling is a union which provides easy access for maintenance or piping system modification. Field modification can be handled easily with minimal effort due to the interchangeability of the grooved method. DEPENDABILITY The coupling housing are designed to engage into the grooves and provide a secure joint. The pipe ends are sealed by a pressure responsive gaskets which is encapsulated by the ductile iron housing. FLEXIBILITY Figure 575 and 705 Flexible Grooved Couplings allow for deflection of the piping system. General Information 9

System Design Grooved Piping Products provide the versatility required in piping systems through the use of rigid and flexible piping products. Figure 572 and 575 Couplings incorporate rotation resistant gripping teeth which provide the installer and designer with increased benefits. Rigid Joints Rigid Couplings provide rigid gripping of the pipe. They are designed to bring the pipe ends closely together and the coupling clamps firmly onto the pipe OD and also into the bottom of the grooves. Because Rigid Couplings clamp around the entire pipe surface, they provide resistance to flexural loads and therefore permit longer spacing to ASME/ ANSI B31.1 (Power Piping) and ASME/ANSI B39.1 (Building Services) requirements as well as NFPA 13 (Sprinkler Systems). Flexible Joints Flexible Couplings act as an "expansion joint", allowing linear and angular movement of the pipe. They are designed with the coupling keys engaging the pipe without gripping on the bottom of the grooves, while still providing for a restrained mechanical joint. This is particularly useful to allow for pipe expansion or contraction and piping misalignment. 12 System Design

Pipe Hanger Spacing All piping systems require that the support system accommodate the weight of the pipe, joint connections, fluid and other system components. Not recommended T to Nitrile Orange for Hot Water Systems. Not +180 F recommended for Hot Dry Air over (+82 C) +140 F (+60 C) Note: Dry pipe and freezer systems are unique applications which benefit from proper pipe preparation and the use of rigid couplings, such as our Figures 572 and 772 couplings and our Tri-Seal gaskets. Reducing couplings are not recommended for these applications. Standard lube is not recommended for this application as it freezes and can cause leakage. Proper pipe end preparation and grooving is mandatory to prevent leakage (See specifications for cut and roll grooving). The gasket seat surface must be free from score marks, ridges, indentations, projections, loose paint, flaking galvanizing, scale, dirt chips, grease, rust, etc. that would prevent a positive seal. The best choice for a trouble free system is to use our rigid couplings with our Tri-Seal gaskets and a petroleum free silicone base lubricant. Prelubricated gaskets do not require the use of silicone lubricant. 18 Gaskets

Tri-Seal Freezer Gasket The Tri-Seal Grade E freezer gasket is used primarily for dry pipe fire protection systems, vacuum service, and freezer applications. The Tri-Seal freezer gasket differs from standard gaskets by closing off the gap or gasket cavity. This is accomplished by positioning the center rib of the gasket over the gap between the pipes. The Tri-Seal freezer gasket has two tapered sealing edges in addition to the center rib for additional strength and sealing. The Tri-Seal freezer gasket is available in sizes 1 1 /4" to 12" and is designed for use with Figure 575, 572, 705, 707 and 772 Couplings. A petroleum-free silicone based lubricant is recommended for dry pipe systems. For low temperature services or dry systems in cold storage or freezer applications, use Tri-Seal freezer gaskets. For vacuum services greater than 10" Hg, Tri-Seal gaskets should be used. Note: Rigid couplings are preferred for vacuum, dry pipe and freezer applications. Pre-Lubricated Gasket Pre-lubricated gaskets are provided with a propritary coating which eliminates the need for the installer to apply a lubricant during the assembly process. They are available in both the Grade A EPDM or Tri-Seal Grade E EPDM styles. TM Lube Gaskets 19

Figure 572 and 772 Rigid Coupling patented Always read and understand the instructions. Never remove any piping component without verifying that the system is depressurized and drained. Rigid Couplings with Tri-Seal gaskets are preferred for dry pipe and freezer applications. Installation / Assembly Instructions The following instructions apply to Figure 572 and 772 Rigid Couplings. The installation is based on pipe grooved in accordance with Standard Cut Groove or Roll Groove Specifications. Step 1. Inspect exterior groove and ends of the pipe to verify all loose debris, dirt, chips, paint and any other foreign material such as grease are removed. Pipe ends sealing surfaces must be free from projections, indentations, or other markings. Step 2. Verify that the coupling and gasket grade are correct for the application intended. Plese refer to Gasket Grades and Gasket Recommendations Literature for additional information. The edges and outer surfaces of the gasket should be covered with a fine layer of petroleumfree silicone lubricant or equivalent. Petroleum lubricant should not be used on Grade E EPDM or Grade A EPDMA gaskets to prevent deterioration of the gasket material. Tri-seal gaskets are recommended for freezer applications. Note: Silicone lubricant must be used in Dry Pipe and Freezer Applications. (Pre-lubricated gaskets do not require silicone libricant.) Step 3. Install the gasket by placing the gasket over the pipe, which is to be fastened by the rigid coupling and ensure that the gasket lip does not extend beyond the end of the pipe. Step 4. Bring both pipe ends together, ensure proper alignment and slide the gasket into position, properly centering it between the grooved portions of each pipe. Note: the gasket should not protrude into the grooves on either pipe segments or extend between the pipe ends. 24 Installation Instructions Figure 572 and 772 Couplings

Figure 572 and 772 Rigid Coupling (Cont.) patented Step 5. With one nut and bolt removed, swing around as shown. Verify that the housings are over the gasket and that the housing keys are fully engaged into the grooves. Note: Sizes 1 1 4" - 12" Figure 772 and Figure 572 utilize a tongue and recess arrangement, which must be mated properly for the coupling to function according to design. These pictures show the patented Universal Tongue and Recess arrangement. These coupling housings have identical tongue/ recess pairs at each end, which allow an engagement fit no matter which end of the housing is brought together. Step 6. Insert the other bolt into the coupling and rotate the nuts until finger tight. Verify that the bolt heads are fully recessed in the housing. Step 7. Alternate between bolts when tightening nuts until properly torqued as shown in the table. Note: uneven tightening can cause the gasket to pinch or bind. Note that on the 1 1 4" - 8" Figure 572 and 1 1 4" - 12" 772 couplings there is an intended gap of up to 1/16 of an inch at each pad to allow for positive rigid gripping onto the pipe. Figure 575, 705 & 707 Flexible Couplings Always read and understand the instructions. Never remove any piping component without verifying that the system is depressurized and drained. Rigid Couplings with Tri-Seal gaskets are preferred for dry pipe and freezer applications. Installation / Assembly Instructions The following instructions apply to Figures 575, 705 and 707 Flexible Couplings. The installation is based on pipe grooved in accordance with Standard Cut Groove or Roll Groove Specifications. Step 1. Inspect exterior groove and ends of the pipe to verify all loose debris, dirt, chips, paint and any other foreign material such as grease are removed. Pipe ends sealing surfaces must be free from projections, indentations, and/or other markings. Step 2. Verify that the coupling and gasket grade are correct for the application intended. Please refer to Gasket Grades and Gasket Recommendations literature for additional information. The edges and outer surfaces of the gasket should be covered with a fine layer of petroleum-free silicone lubricant or equivalent. Petroleum lubricant should not be used on Grade E EPDM or Grade A EPDMA gaskets to prevent deterioration of the gasket material. Rigid Couplings and Tri-seal gaskets are recommended for freezer applications. Prelubricated gaskets do not require added lubrication. Step 3. Install the gasket by placing the gasket over the pipe, which is to be fastened by the flexible coupling and ensure that the gasket lip does not extend beyond the end of the pipe. Installation Instructions Figure 575, 705 and 707 Couplings 31

Figure 575, 705 & 707 Flexible Couplings (cont.) Step 4. Bring both pipe ends together, ensure proper alignment and slide the gasket into position, properly centering it between the grooved portions of each pipe. Note: the gasket should not protrude into the grooves on either pipe segments or extend between the pipe ends. Step 5. With one nut and bolt removed, swing around as shown. Verify that the housings are over the gasket and that the housing keys are fully engaged into the grooves. Step 6. Insert the other bolt into the coupling and rotate the nuts until finger tight. Verify that the bolt heads are fully recessed in the housing. Step 7. Alternate between bolts when tightening nuts until properly torqued to bring housing in contact with the bolt pads. Note: uneven tightening can cause the gasket to pinch or bind. For proper bolt torques please refer to the table listed on the previous pages. Note: Figures 575, 705 and 707 Coupling Housing bolt pads must be in contact metal to metal. 32 Installation Instructions Figure 575, 705 and 707 Couplings

The hole size should be verified in the table on the left. Proper hole preparation is required for effective sealing and performance. Check the pipe seal surface within 5 /8 of the hole to be certain it is free from conditions which would affect proper gasket sealing. Remove any sharp or rough edges from the hole or upper housing contact area, which might affect assembly, proper seating of the locating collar or flow from the outlet. Check gasket grade to be certain it is suitable for the service. For crosses, ensure double outlet holes are aligned on opposite sides of the pipe. The use of threaded products other than steel pipe, such as dry pendents, etc. may not be compatible with the female threaded outlet on the Mechanical Tee. Always confirm compatibility by contacting Tyco Fire Products. * Changed from 2" previously used on the Figure 720. Step 2. Hole must be drilled on the pipe centerline. For crosses, ensure double outlet holes are aligned. Step 3. Holes should be de-burred. The gasketseating surface on the pipe should be examined to verify all loose debris, dirt, chips, paint and any other foreign material such as grease are removed. Installation / Assembly Instructions The following instructions apply to Figure 730 Mechanical Outlet Tee and Cross with threaded and grooved outlets. If a cross configuration is desired the lower housing is replaced with an upper outlet housing. Verify that the gasket grade is correct for the application intended. Please refer to Gasket Grades and Gasket Recommendations literature for additional information. Step 1. Check for proper gasket positioning in housing. The alignment tabs on the gasket should fit into the recesses of the housing. Gasket lubrication is not required on this product. Step 2. With one nut and bolt removed, swing around as shown. Step 3. Verify that the housing outlet spike is positioned in the hole. Insert the other bolt into the housing and rotate the nuts clockwise until finger tight. Verify that the bolt heads are fully recessed in the housing. Step 4. Alternate between bolts when tightening nuts until properly torqued with even gaps between the bolt pads. Note: uneven tightening can cause the gasket to pinch or bind. For proper bolt torques please refer to the table listed below. Pipe ends sealing surfaces must be free from projections, indentations, and/or other markings. Installation Instructions Figure 71 Flange Adapter 47

Figure 71 Installation / Assembly Instructions (cont.) Step 2. Verify that the gasket selection is correct for the application intended. Please refer to Gasket Grades and Gasket Recommendations literature for additional information. Insert one flange bolt (not supplied) in hinge section of Figure 71 Flange Adapter. Place the hinged assembly into the groove on the pipe. Step 3. Close the flange with another bolt. To ease in the closure of the flange, two tabs are provided. Take an adjustable wrench and place it over the two tabs as shown. Move the wrench parallel to the pipe until the holes align. Once the holes align insert a bolt. Verify that the housing keys are fully engaged into the groove. Step 5. The edges and outer surface of the gasket should be covered with a fine layer of petroleum-free silicone lubricant or equivalent. Petroleum lubricant should not be used on Grade E EPDM or Grade A EPDMA gaskets to prevent deterioration of the gasket material. Step 6. Place the gasket into the gasket pocket with the gasket marking side in first. Step 7. Bring both the Figure 71 Flange and the opposite Flange together. Ensure proper alignment and slide each of the remaining flange bolts (not supplied) in each of the remaining bolt holes. Tighten all nuts uniformly to bring the flange faces firmly together and ensure that the nuts are sufficiently torqued. (see torque values on previous page) Note: Metal flange washer adapters are required when the Figure 71 Flange Adapter is used against surfaces such as: 1. Rubber surfaces 2. Adapting to AWWA cast flanges 3. Rubber faced wafer valves 4. Serrated flange surfaces Figure 71 Flange Adapters are not recommended for applications which incorporate tie rods for anchoring or on a standard fitting within 90 of each other. Contact Tyco Fire Products for recommendations prior to using with plastic pipe. 48 Installation Instructions Figure 71 Flange Adapter

Butterfly Valves Always read and understand the instructions. Never remove any piping component without verifying that the system is depressurized and drained. These valves are furnished with grooved ends and can be installed using Grooved Flexible or Rigid Couplings. To prevent rotation of the valves it is recommended that the Butterfly Valve be installed with rigid type couplings, such as the Figure 572 or 772. If flexible couplings are used, additional support may be needed to prevent rotation. Butterfly Valves should be located where they will by readily accessible for operation inspection and maintenance. All replacement parts must be obtained from Tyco Fire Products to assure proper operation of the valve. When ordering parts please specify model number and size. Butterfly Valves in sizes 8, 10, and 12 inches must be closed prior to installation as the disc extends beyond the valve body. If the valve is installed with the disc extended mechanical damage to the disc can occur. Supervisory Switch Replacement For ease of replacement, the kit consists of a new gear operator with internal switches. Note: Before replacing the gear operator with switches, verify that the wiring is per the wiring diagram found in step 7. IMPORTANT: All replacement parts must be obtained from the manufacturer to assure proper operation of the valve. Warning: Any system maintenance or inspection that involves placing a valve "out-of-service" will eliminate the fire protection normally provided by the fire protection system. Prior to proceeding, be certain to secure permission from all Authorities Having Jurisdiction and notify all personnel who may be affected during system shutdown. A fire watch during maintenance periods is a recommended precaution. 50 Installation Instructions Control Valves
