Instruction Sheet P/N 74B0 RA-0 Paint/Solvent/Dump Valve Description The paint/solvent valve is a normally closed valve used to trigger coating material. The valve may be used alone to actuate paint or solvent within the rotary atomizer, or may be coupled with a dump valve for paint actuation and dump. Figure Paint/Solvent/Dump Valve. Fluid Inlet. Air Inlet Removal Refer to the Repair section in the RA-0 Rotary Atomizer manual for a detailed description of removing the valve from the rotary atomizer. Installation Based on the system they are used with, the paint/solvent/dump valves can be installed in several possible configurations. Single-, dual-, and three-valve installations allow the valves to function in a variety of ways. Figures and show all four possible installations which may be used to actuate paint from within the rotary atomizer. The dual-valve can be installed as a paint/dump (installation B), or a paint/solvent valve configuration (installation C). The three-valve installation (installation D), can be used as a paint/solvent/dump valve configuration. For part numbers of reference items, refer to the parts list at the end of this document.

Tighten both cap screws on the manifold to secure the valves into the ports. 6. Refer to the RA-0 Rotary Atomizer manual for procedures to reinstall the manifold into the rotary atomizer. Three-Valve Installation See Figure, Installation D. The three-valve installation is used when a paint/solvent/dump configuration is desired. To install the three valves, perform the following steps:. Loosen the two cap screws () on the dual-port manifold ().. Make sure the v-notch on the manifold is facing down. The curved groove on the manifold should face up.. Insert the paint valve () into the port on the left-hand side of the manifold. Make sure the fluid inlet is facing down. 4. Place the O-ring (7) between the two valves. Use the two screws (5) to attach the dump valve (6) to the underside of the paint valve () as shown. 5. Tighten the two screws (5). 6. Make sure that the side of the dump valve (6) fits tightly against the v-notch on the manifold. The curved groove of the manifold should face up. 7. Insert the solvent valve (4) into the right port on the manifold with the solvent inlet facing up. 8. Tighten the two cap screws on the manifold to secure the valves during operation. 9. Refer to the RA-0 Rotary Atomizer manual for procedures to reinstall the manifold into the rotary atomizer.

6 RA-0 Paint/Solvent/Dump Valve Operation Single-Valve Dual-Valve The following information describes how paint/solvent/dump valves operate in single-, dual-, and three-valve installations. All valve installations require a minimum air pressure of.75 bar (40 psi). When air pressure is applied at the air inlet, the valve opens to dispense coating material. Because of its spring-return closure, the valve closes when air is removed. See Figures 4 and 5. These figures show a dual-valve installation as it dispenses coating material or solvent. See Figure 4. In this figure, coating material or solvent from a low pressure feed system enters at the fluid inlet (). Since the lower valve is closed, the coating material is dead-ended. When air is applied at the air inlet (), the valve opens and coating material or solvent flow through the fluid outlet () to the rotary atomizer cup. Figure 4 Dual-Valve Operation. Fluid Inlet. Fluid Outlet. Air Inlet See Figure 5. If air is removed from the air inlet port of the upper valve, the upper valve closes and blocks the coating material or solvent. When new coating material or solvent flows through the fluid inlet (), the material passes into the second valve. When air is applied to the air inlet port of the second valve (), the lower valve opens and dumps material from the dump port () into a waste container.
RA-0 Paint/Solvent/Dump Valve 7 Figure 5 Dual Valve Operation. Fluid Inlet. Dump Port. Air Inlet Port of Secondary Valve Three-Valve Three-valve installations are typically used in applications that require the use of paint, solvent, and dump valves, such as quick color-change applications. Each one of the three valves functions as a paint, solvent, or dump valve. One valve is used as a paint valve to trigger paint. The second valve is used as a solvent valve for cup flush. The third valve is used as a dump valve for color-changing.
8 RA-0 Paint/Solvent/Dump Valve Repair See Figure 6. If a visual inspection shows fluid in the weep hole or the valve does not close, disassemble and rebuild as necessary. Disassembly To disassemble the valve, follow the procedures below.. When possible, flush the valve with a compatible cleaning solution before removing the valve from the system.. Turn off both fluid and air pressure to the valve.. Remove the screws (), lock washers (), and air cylinder () from the valve body (, 4). 4.
