Dual-Fuel TM Technology

Dual-Fuel tm Technology Genesis-EDGE Aftermarket Vehicle System The Genesis-EDGE system was developed specifically to be an 100% Diesel Fallback after market product which can be installed without the need for formal cooperation of the engine manufacturer. The solution does not interface directly with the vehicles own engine management system and up to 60% of the diesel normally used by the vehicle is substituted with natural gas. The emissions and fuel savings remain commercially attractive in the target markets, particularly with recent oil price increases. Clean Air Power s flagship technology is it s patented Dual-Fuel system, which enables heavy duty diesel engines to operate primarily on natural gas, with diesel fuel acting as an ignition source. The diesel engine is basically unchanged and retains its high performance and high efficiency 4-stroke diesel cycle. By efficiently burning up to 80% natural gas, customers benefit from lower fuel costs and a lower carbon footprint. Dual-Fuel can operate normally on bio-methane and biodiesel, giving it the potential to be carbon-neutral. If the natural gas supply runs out, the Dual- Fuel system changes seamlessly to operate on 100% diesel, giving complete diesel operational backup, a crucial feature in attracting risk averse operators to a new technology Interfaced Vehicle System In this solution our technology is interfaced with the manufacturer s electronic engine management system. This is designed in conjunction with the vehicle manufacturer to integrate the Clean Air Power software with the vehicle s existing Electronic Control Unit. This integration increases the flexibility with which the engine fuelling can be managed and, as a result, maximises the product benefits in terms of carbon emissions and fuel cost savings. Between approximately 70% and 80% of the diesel normally used by the vehicle is substituted for natural gas in our interfaced products.

Why Clean Air Power s Dual-Fuel? REDUCED FUEL COST PERFORMANCE Dual-Fuel technology uses diesel fuel as a liquid sparkplug, and natural gas as the primary fuel source. Our highly optimised system matches diesel efficiency, thus can reduce your fuel bill by as much as 20% Dual-Fuel engines utilise an Engine Control Unit (ECU) developed by Clean Air Power, and the diesel Electronic Control Module (ECM) to precisely control diesel, natural gas and air mixtures to optimise combustion, and match the base vehicle performance. REDUCED CO2 60-80% gas substitution gives reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG), Particulate Matter (PM) and Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions, thus can reduce your CO2 by as much as 15%. DIESEL FALL-BACK The base diesel engine remains unchanged, allowing 100% diesel fall-back. This protects against unforeseen eventualities, and provides a secure commercial proposition with no impact on residual value. Dual-Fuel Aftersales Dual-Fuel customers are fully supported through a comprehensive aftersales service backed up with diagnostic tools and product manuals. Training, literature, spare parts, service and warranty are available through participating dealers and Clean Air Power product support representatives. Clean Air Power s Dual-Fuel system requires minimal routine maintenance. The injectors are easily accessible and can be changed in less than an hour with no special tooling. In the event of any unforeseen issues with the Dual-Fuel system or limited natural gas availability, the engine automatically reverts to diesel operation. This allows the driver to continue to a convenient service or fuelling point after completion of their route. Clean Air Power has developed a diagnostic tool to analyse performance of the system in service. The Diagnostic Tool can be connected to the HAWK ECU. This enables system parameters to be viewed, current diagnostic codes to be interrogated and functionality check to be performed on system components. The diagnostic tool also has the facility for high speed data collection. Clean Air Power s Diagnostic Tool

Best of Both worlds Clean Air Power has pioneered the use of Natural Gas to power heavy duty trucks by developing Dual-Fuel technology that delivers diesel engine performance and efficiency. The diesel engine is unchanged and operates according to the diesel cycle, using a small pilot injection to ignite a controlled mixture of gas and air. Operating on a high proportion of Natural Gas, the system delivers significant cost savings and low carbon emissions, with a fall-back facility to 100% diesel operation. Founded in 1991, Clean Air Power has continually developed innovative technologies that allow clean natural gas to be the primary fuel source for heavy duty diesel engines. Clean Air Power s Dual-Fuel technology is supplied to vehicle manufacturers (Interfaced), and is also available directly to vehicle operators in a retro-fit system (Genesis-EDGE). Each may have any proportion of bio-methane added without degrading performance. CNG or LNG preference depends on a number of parameters: Natural Gas infrastructure, and access to filling station(s) Fuel cost Fuel quality Weight sensitivity Vehicle configuration and required range

Developments US Genesis-EDGE Major logistics providers demonstrate confidence in the product Following 10 years operation of Dual-Fuel achieving over 12 million miles per truck, a Californian operator is taking delivery of the first new Genesis-EDGE Dual-Fuel for MACK MP8 engines. In Europe, a second global major logistics organisation has placed several orders for the Volvo platform product throughout 2012 & 2013. They operate a Genesis-EDGE fleet of over 80 vehicles. This complements the 65 methane diesel vehicles already in their fleet. They recently placed orders for 3 further contracts which will take their total operating Dual-Fuel fleet to over 200 vehicles. R&D Funding Investing in the next generation Clean Air Power has been awarded further R&D funding by the Niche Vehicle Network s collaborative research and development programme. The project will deliver a prototype after-treatment system for use on Euro VI compliant dual-fuel heavy duty vehicles. Additionally Clean Air Power has a research project at Brunel University, aimed at developing the next generation of advanced Dual-Fuel combustion systems. The project is being carried out on a modern heavy duty research engine at the University s Centre for Advanced Powertrains and Fuels. Case Studies HAM ES Clean Air Power launched a new Renault Magnum compatible Genesis-EDGE Dual-Fuel retrofit system in 2012 and as a result received an order for 80 systems from the Spanish transport company HAM. HAM is a leading Spanish LNG distributor and transport company which distributes LNG throughout Spain, the Balearics, Holland and Italy transporting circa 60 tankers per day and operating approximately 100 tractor units. Sainsbury s Sainsbury s is one of the largest supermarkets in the UK, a household name and an opinion forming leader in logistics operations. Sainsbury s successful Running on Rubbish trial saw 5 trucks run in its fleet fuelled by bio-methane gas which has been generated from landfill waste and produced by Gasrec Ltd. As a result of the successful trial, during which Sainsbury s validated the system emission reductions, fuel savings and operational acceptability, Sainsbury s ordered 49 systems in 2012 with a further 50 in 2014.
